He had never heard her like this. She had never been anything other than in control, on top of everything. Smiling, efficient, nothing ever threw her. To hear her like this tore him up. He tried to respond, but before he could, Pepper had brought herself under control. “I’m sorry,” she said. “You don’t have to apolo-” “No. I do.” Her voice had acquired it’s detached businesslike demeanor. “That was… unprofessional. You didn’t ask for this to happen. You did your best. We should be grateful that you weren’t killed in the attack. I have…” She paused, and there was a slight choke in her voice that she promptly shoved away. “I have every confidence that you’ll find him. And Mr. Stark is very resourceful himself. You shouldn’t count him out” “Absolutely. He’s probably building a matter transporter out of three paperclips and a toaster oven as we speak, and he’ll just beam himself out.“ “You’ll keep me appraised.” “Absolutely, you’ll be the first one to know.” “Thank you, that means a lot.” “And Pepper-” The phone beeped at him. The person on the other end had disappeared. He couldn’t tell whether it was a dropped call or if she hung up. Either way, the conversation was over. He pocketed his cell phone and wondered, not for the first time, if Tony Stark was aware of just how completely, totally and madly in love with him Pepper Potts was. For that matter, he wondered if Pepper herself knew.

Stark’s secretary had called security, and two bulky men had walked in, prepared to haul her out. In a voice that had carried all the way down the hall — Tony Stark swore to this day that he still had a ringing in his ears from it — she had bellowed to the guards, “Don’t you touch me! I have pepper spray!”
Tony Stark had burst out laughing.

You know, if I were Iron Man, I’d have this girlfriend who knew my true identity. She’d be a wreck, ‘cause she’d always be worrying that I was going to die, yet so proud of the man I’d become.

Behind. For the first time in her life, Pepper Potts is behind.
Extremely behind.
Sure, the company has had its fair share of getting backed up here and there, but it was never anything that Pepper couldn’t handle. Few days time and she’d have everything right back to where it was. Hell, that was why Tony promoted her to CEO in the first place.
Tony.
Even just the thought of his name was a distraction in itself. Peace—it brought her peace amongst stress. God, would she give the world just to be with that bit of peace at the moment. Anything to steal her away from the mound of folders neatly piled at the corner of her desk, filled with packets and little Xs to sign her name.
You have work to do.
Her eyes flickered from the paperwork to the watch on her wrist. 5:13. He should have returned to the tower around 35 minutes prior to then. She wouldn’t know, though, since he hadn’t stopped by her office to see her.
Like she specifically instructed him to do. Because she has work to do. Weeks of it.
Boy, did she miss that snarky, little friend of hers. Believe it or not, JARVIS really was the backbone of the company.
She looked at her watch again. 5:14.
Dropping her pen down on the paper abruptly, Pepper sat back in her chair, tilting it as far away from the desk as she could get it. “Alright, Pep,” she said aloud to herself, pulling up the next day’s agenda on her desktop, “It’s either a late night tonight, or an early morning and late night tomorrow…”
She stared at the agenda for a moment before quickly exiting out of it, standing up from her desk and grabbing her coat in the process. It had been 4 and a quarter days—or more precisely, 102 hours and now fifteen minutes—since she’d seen Tony last. She wasn’t exactly down to waste another minute.
Closing up her office, however, took another two, as she shut down her computers and packed up her things. Getting to the elevator and waiting for it to reach her floor took another three. In her thirty second elevator ride, she planned it out perfectly: knowing Tony, he’d be in his workshop already, so all she had to do was put on a pot of coffee, change while it brewed, make both of their coffees in their respected ways, and meet him down in his shop. Easy as pie.
The elevator doors opened and she began her beeline to the kitchen when—wait… Looney Tunes? On a Tuesday afternoon? She stopped and turned to its source, her face falling flat as she saw Tony on the couch, covered in snacks and grease and comfort to every degree.
I don’t wanna lose her.
“A chemistry test is something to try to find the thing that [Gwyneth] Paltrow and I have in Iron Man. It’s something where you have to think this movie is going to work because of you two.“ — Robert Downey Jr.
Yeah, dad was a pain in the ass, but he and mom always made it work.
make me choose: ↳ @comiicqueen asked: Tony outfits in Iron Man or Tony outfits in Iron Man 3?
Pepper Potts, CEO.
Those times when Tony mentions Pepper with love.
Winter for nymphs typically meant whatever it meant for their corresponding trees: a freeze in life until the warmth of the sun restored it back to health. For some, hibernation ensued by the turn of the season, as those nymphs would rest until growth began once again. For others, appearances in the open woods became more and more scarce as the season continued on, and then rarely at all following the first snowfall.
For Pepper, however, it meant time off from the burden of her very tree—she had the freedom to make the cold, empty woods entirely her home. And while winter may have meant a sad time of solitude, Pepper simply couldn’t get enough of the feeling she got every time she stepped foot on the snow-dusted floor of the forest each winter.
The first snowfall came a bit earlier than expected, making its premature arrival on the first evening of November. To no one’s surprise, Pepper was out in the night, taking in each flake as it fell to her warm, bare skin.

[ Regardless of form, the canine senses linger, his hearing acute enough even now to pick up the direction of the sound; the voice is sweet but unfamiliar, sending a shiver down his spine. He maintains his position, though - not everything that haunts these woods can be faced head-on, after all. ]
— I reckon I can take care of myself.
“And yet,” the nymph stopped just a couple feet behind him as she dared not to approach the mortal any further, “you’ve been caught doing--what? The very thing you were trying to avoid being seen doing?”
She looked upon him and examined his stern body language. Hostility was the very thing that kept her from circling around to the front of him: it was unusual for a man to be so opposed to her attention like he was. Granted, he hadn’t quite expected her attention either--her presence in her own wood seemed to be more of a surprise to him than he was to her. “Your abilities,” she paused for a moment, a faint smile appearing to her face, “did not startle me, sir.”

"You should be more careful,” a soft voice spoke from behind him.
It was one bare foot after another; Pepper crept closer to the man, the crisp autumn leaves breaking beneath her feet.
