with the a single light on in the living room, elias had tossed pillows and duvets and blankets on the floor for comforts sake. the guys would probably tell him off for wrecking their room and eating fried chicken, but he didn’t particularly care — he was more worried for what was going on with dee. still gnawing on a chicken bone, he jumped up when the doorbell rang, tossing the food aside for a moment to let his sister in. ‘ dee !! ’ grinning, he tossed the door open, standing aside to let her in. ‘ welcome to my humble abode. well — our humble abode. but technically i’m the only one here right now, so it’s mine for tonight. anyway, just head to the right, we’re in the living room. make yourself comfortable — and then you can tell me what the hell is going on, eh ?? ’

acrylic nails tapped against white teeth as dee stood outside elias’ door, waiting to be let in. as soon as the door opened, her hand flew away from her mouth and she adjusted the purse that hung at the crook of her elbow. “e!!” she matched his enthusiasm, though barely, and stepped past him, her eyes wandering up and across the entryway of the fraternity. she had never been inside despite two of her brothers living in it. sometimes she felt that a house full of athletes could only mean a permanent stench of dirty socks in the walls. she ignored his directions and spun around to face him, a sweet smile lighting her face. “what do you mean? nothing’s going on.”

archie sat on the curb, picking and a piece of loose thread from his shirt. the boy was a little more than tipsy at this point, this was obvious by the way his blue eyes were glossy. he looked up at the familiar voice and brightened immediately. “i stayed here like ya said,” he murmured. he stood up, wobbling a bit, before getting into the car. “i’m so happy to see you!”

“good thing you did,” she gave the boy a friendly smile before quickly focusing on the road again. her grip momentarily tightened on the steering wheel, her knuckles going white for the second, and she released the tension with a sigh. “i want to say i know what’s got you down, but i won’t assume. i brought wine and ice cream, and we can watch a movie in my room if you want.”
