Davina Claire + strength
Noah bit his lip, nodding. He wasn’t usually the negative one in a conversation, and here he was, acting as if they didn’t even have a chance. “I’m sorry— yeah, you’re right. Distance isn’t that bad. We can visit each other and I’ve always wanted to visit New Orleans.” He tried to give her a smile, watching her expression. The boy had thrown everything out of proportion in fear of her leaving, not even putting a solid thought into their conversation. “Davina, I didn’t mean it like that. I mean, you’ll be staying a while at least, right? That’s… that’s something. Hey, I could be dead by tomorrow. I literally have nothing going on. I graduate and then I’m going to college, but that’s about it for me. We have to try at least— right? This can’t just be nothing, and then you end up leaving years from now. I never meant to make it seem like I didn’t have hope in us… our friendship or… even more than what we are? I think it was Caroline that said I should probably ask you because maybe you’re thinking it or if I wait too long you won’t say yes. Will you be my girlfriend? That is, if you are willing to try. This is now, right now, and we can figure out the future when it gets here.”
“Don’t be sorry.. you were thinking logically while I was more in a fantasy world. You were right to say those things because it was true but I feel like distance could be dealt with. I know we could figure it out.” Her words came out softly, trying to reassure herself more than anything. He was right to think the way he did but for once in Davina’s life she was positive about something and that meant more to her than anything. “Graduation isn’t that far off-- college has longer breaks, we can visit more then.” She gave a slight laugh, bringing out positives to the entire situation as best as she could. It took Davina a second to really get where Noah was going with his last bit, mentioning Caroline threw her off a bit and she was clearly confused, it was showing in her facial expressions but once he blatantly asked she couldn’t help but smile. She didn’t think he would really ever ask and perhaps it would simply turn into some unspoken thing between the two. But hearing him ask was far more pleasant than she imagined-- yes she did imagine it a few times in her head, she couldn’t lie about that. “I would really like that-- by that I mean be your girlfriend.. just in case I confused it or maybe I’m thinking this over too much. -- But I’m willing to try now and work it out later on.” She quickly ended off with her last words, finding herself rambling too much near the beginning but laughing nonetheless at her own embarrassment.

“I might end up drunk, honestly.”
“No shame in that though, right?”
"I’m fine. I’m always fine,"
“That usually means someone isn’t fine. From my understanding that is.”
"Why does everyone think I drink it?" She slurred.
“Your entire demeanour just shows it.” Davina stated blankly.
“It’ll be even more awesome that we’re the only two people in it. Nope, never. With my parents constantly working and the kids in school, no one would be around to watch an animal. It was probably a smart idea, especially with the twins wanting to break everything they put their hands on. Yeah, I figured that. There are a lot of inevitable evils in this world. Maybe? I… I understand that, and I wouldn’t want you to stay if that’s how you feel. You do what makes you happy, and I’ll respect whatever decision you make— even if I’ll hate it. I worry constantly, and sometimes I think that’s going to be how I die. Everything has to be thought out and planned… maybe not so specifically, but enough to where I’m not blindsided too much by the future.” Noah froze, shaking his head sadly. “I… I don’t want you to hurt me but I— I want you, Davina, and I’d be willing to let you hurt me if that meant I got to spend more time with you. I’m sorry… I just— I’ve never felt like this about anyone before and I like you so goddamn much that the thought of you actually leaving makes my chest hurt.”
“Cause we’re all a club needs, obviously. My parents weren’t all that busy, I mean my mom wasn’t. She was more strict with things but having a pet was kind of a shock for me, didn’t think it’d really happen but I’m happy I got to experience that. --You don’t have to think on the negatives of this all though. I mean, I’m not the most positive person here but there’s ways to make it work.. the distance and all may be a factor but it’s a small one nonetheless, or so I look at it that way.” She stared at the other. Davina knew his words weren’t meant to be hurtful or harsh but that’s exactly how they came out. The thought barely crossed her mind; leaving the town and returning to her own but even now looking at it, she had hope for something that’d last but it only seemed like he didn’t. She was trying her best to look at it from his perspective but was far too blinded by the hurt that filled her heart at the moment. Perhaps there wasn’t a point to it, Davina hadn’t wanted to hurt Noah. The thought alone left her speechless, she didn’t want that for him and it was clear that they’d both hurt for what was to come. “Hurting you isn’t an option in the matter, it’s not something I want to do nor would I. I-- I never thought this through and I guess that’s my own fault there. But I like you a lot, so much that I was just blinded by it all I never thought of the future to come. Me leaving and all. I don’t want to put you through that... you shouldn’t be put through that. You’ve already got a million things going on, I’m sure. It’d be cruel of me to pretend everything’s alright for a small amount of time or even semi-long one only to find ourselves moving apart because of me. It’d be selfish of me to do that to you.”
“I… here I am, denying it. I’m not… good with compliments? As I never tend to believe them. Thank you, though. It does mean something coming from you.” he admitted, giving her a small smile. All his life bullies and the people around him had slammed into his head that he was useless, gross, and some nerdy kid no one would ever take two seconds to stare at. Deep down he wanted to think that wasn’t true, but how could he not when it’s practically all he’s ever known? “Yeah… “art school”. He is good, but I’m sure you are too. Oh, please. You show me your drawings and I play piano for you. That is, if you still want to hear me play.”
“You’re humble, I guess? It wouldn’t be too attractive if you bluntly stated it. You should start believing them though, they’re very true-- why don’t you believe them, if I may ask.” She was curious to the reason, she could possibly assume he just didn’t believe it but there must’ve been a reason past it or so she thought. “You say that like you don’t think he did. Something more to the story? -- that sounds like a perfect deal. You can be my muse, playing some Vivaldi. Four Seasons Spring, I feel like that just sounds best for an art theme or drawing background sort of tune. Um, of course I want to hear you play. I’m sure you’re just amazing at it.”
“We can make badges and t-shirts, make it official. Oh, yeah. I’ve never had a dog or… any pet, really, but I do like dogs a lot better. I don’t really consider that lucky? I don’t know. I’ve never really though about it but yeah, I get that. I can’t help it, Davina… knowing that you’re eventually going to leave makes me wonder why you haven’t already left. Once you find your friends you’ll probably leave and… I mean, I guess I could visit, but not often. That’s such a far way away. Leave? No, I can’t. I still have my family. I have my sisters, my dad, my mo— I… I can’t, okay? I’m not a day-by-day person, I always have to be thinking ahead, scheduling the future— if you’re not here for the long run, then it’s not smart to invest. People get hurt that way.”
“I am ready for this club. It’ll be an awesome one, though we’ll probably be the only ones in it. Still awesome. Never? I had a dog once, when I was younger. He was adorable and I called him brownie because at the time I was no good at pet naming-- he was brown, in case you may have been wondering. I never thought of it but it was inevitable-- me leaving and all. We could make it work though, right...? See, I wasn’t asking for you to leave Mystic Falls but to show you how I feel. New Orleans is the only bit of my past family I have. I don’t have a family like you do, most of the time I spent for the last couple of years were mostly in fear and it’s because of my friends I found a new sense of family. They’re all I have, just like you have your sisters and dad. You couldn’t imagine leaving them, just as I couldn’t do the same for my friends. You can’t live thinking for the future all the time, it’s only going to make you worry more-- Not smart to invest? Right. I wouldn’t want to hurt you.”
At her words, Noah tried not to laugh, but he couldn’t help himself. A chuckle escaped past his lips, his hand covering his mouth. “First off— I’m… not the greatest person at socializing, though I’m sure you’ve noticed. Second… handsome? Me, the guy with the puny body who looks like I’m ten? I do think you need to get your eyes checked.” It wasn’t a surprise Noah didn’t believe her, with his high insecurity and lack of self confidence. He’d get the occasional compliment on his blue eyes or someone pointing out his kindness, but those came once every couple years. The fact Davina gave them to him practically everyday was astonishing to him. “Moody weird girl? Hardly. You’re the most beautiful girl I’ve ever seen.” he admitted, his words stumbling out faster than he could stop them. Noah paused, swallowed, and sank down into his seat. “Drawing? You and Jeremy would get along well in that department. I’ve always thought that’s such an awesome talent to have. Classical music, very nice. Peanut butter, right, I’ll save that for the future.”
“I never understood those that were great at socializing, so I understand. You’re handsome-- it’s an undeniable, Noah. You can’t run from that and really no one has the perfect body. I’m short like no other, take that into consideration. If you ask me, I think you’re perfect the way you are.” She insisted. Davina wasn’t sure why Noah didn’t see the person she saw or spoke so highly of, he turned her words down and most would never full out admit to accepting a compliment he just never seemed to believe her words to be true. He was far more greater than he gave himself credit for and it really did surprise her. “Well thank you. --Oh yeah, he went to art school or at least for a bit I think? He’s really good at it and I’m nowhere near his skills. Maybe I’ll ask him for tips and hopefully will gain a decent skill level at drawing instead of the embarrassing one I’m at now.”
“Yeah, you’ve got a point. With all the rotten luck I’ve had with girls, I should probably stick to pizza. Oh, oh thank god. I’m definitely a dog person— I can’t really stand cats. Like I’ve told you before, you’re technically a human with superpowers. I don’t have any of that nor magic, but I don’t know if I see that as a plus… I’m just content with being normal. You’ve got plenty of time to learn. Oh… right. Yeah, I— I don’t… of course. That’d be stupid for you to be anywhere but home. When do you plan on going back? Soon, a couple years down the road, when I’ve gotten attached to you… when? I should know ahead of time so at least you won’t ditch me like others usually do.”
“I should probably do the same. Maybe we can start a club in school, pizza hearts club? Dogs are just so much cuter and lively, cats simply creep me out. Being human, trust me when I say this, is amazing all on it’s own. You are truly lucky to be one. Noah-- ...I thought you’d guess by now, Mystic Falls isn’t my home.. it’s.. it’s yours but not mine. Please don’t be like this-- I don’t know. I only came here to find my friends and help... it was never meant to be a permeant stay. I’m not ditching you, I’d visit you and it’s not like you couldn’t visit me as well right? -- would you leave Mystic Falls?”
“Oh, awesome. Uh… yeah, this is my first date too. It makes sense this is my first date but how have you never been on one? You can’t tell me you’ve never had guys like you because I won’t believe you.” he returned. Noah had liked girls before, but he’d either been too shy to do anything about it or they had shot him down flat— followed by laughter and mockery for days to follow. “That’s— no, it’s… okay,” His face began to turn red from embarrassment this time, rubbing the back of his neck as he let out a deep breath. “I’m… I’m done talking about stupid things. Why don’t you tell me about something you love?”
“It does not make any sense. What are you talking about? You are a kind soul, great taste in food-- I mean look where we are, great lab partner and handsome as well. I’m shocked at the fact that you don’t have a bunch of girls swarming you all the time.” Davina gasped, placing a hand over her chest to emphasize her point. Though she teased with her actions, she was curious to the fact. Noah seemed like an all around perfect type of guy and listening to him state that he’d never been on a date was a bit of a shock to her. “No one’s ever asked me. Guess moody weird girl isn’t much of anyones type.” She partially joked with him. “There not stupid to me, by all means you can continue if you want. --Me? Well I like to draw but I’m honestly horrible at it, classical music.. um I really like peanut butter? I don’t know is that an interesting fact or something. Any dessert with peanut butter is a perfect one to me.”
“Hey, until I find something else to be in love with, pizza it is. Wait, cats? Are you saying cats because that’s the typical old person thing or… are you a cat person? Yeah, I know what you mean. When I’m around them all the time, I get used to their body language and think I can do the same things they do. It’s weird. Oh, yeah, definitely— me too. I’d rather be human. A bakery, huh? No— that sounds… wonderful, actually. It sounds like something any person would be happy to grow into. But… New Orleans?”
“Not a healthy love but true enough, it’ll never break your heart so it’s the safest thing to be in love with. I’m a dog kind of person, I was just saying cats cause it just seems like an old person thing. Being human is way more my thing-- well partly, I’m still more human than most supernatural beings so it still counts. I can’t heal myself, can’t run fast and I’m not that strong but somehow that all manages to sound perfectly fine with me. I’ve always wanted a bakery but sad fact, I can’t bake to save my life. Seriously need to work on that, if I’m going to make it come true. New Orleans.. yeah-- it’s my home.. Noah. I can’t really ever picture myself anywhere else but there...”
“Okay, then if you like this place, I’ll take you here more. If you don’t… well, we’ll figure something out. What do people even do on dates? Would it be weird to research that?” he questioned, honestly baffled. Noah wanted to get this right but he had no idea what to do and what not to do. Maybe he could ask someone else for advice— this was definitely up Caroline’s alley. The thing he usually did with friends was play video games and that was with Jeremy… he had no idea if she liked video games and didn’t know if that’d be a good date. Watching her pick that pepperoni pizza, his face lit up with another smile. “Are you… just trying out the pepperoni pizza or do you like it? ‘Cause you just kind of picked my favorite.” he returned. “I’m really picky with food… I mean, if someone makes something for me I’ll eat it, but with pizza I like it simple. No complex ingredients that distract from the main mixture of pizza sauce, crust, and cheese. Just top it off with pepperoni and you still get the taste of the holy trinity, but you also get a kick with it.” Realizing he was babbling with excitement, he stopped talking, giving her a grin.
Letting her eyes roam around the decor of the place while humming softly to herself, lips pursed to signify she was in some sort of deep thought. Quickly parting her lips shortly after to answer. “It’s nice, it’s got a bit of a home feel to it. -- Well, this is slightly embarrassing to say, it’s my first date so I’m not all too sure what people usually do. Except what I’ve seen in movies and I don’t know, those have some sort of crazy concept to them.” She admitted shyly. Davina had her share of crushes but with her families pressure in being a great witch, she never had much time for boys and even after all the crazy things she’d gone through. When finding a chance at something more with one of her long time crushes, it ended in a devastating way. Shaking the thought from her mind as she grew quiet for a moment, staring up at Noah once he began to talk, she gave a small smile. Though he was rambling on about pizza, something she really did find odd but nonetheless adorable on his part, Davina gave a few nods. Showcasing the fact that, yes, she was paying attention. “Picky with food, enjoys pizza-- a lot. Favourite, pepperoni. Should I get a notepad out, I’m getting some really interesting facts right now.” Davina gave a playful stern nod. She enjoyed listening to him go on his escapade of words, she was learning more about him and it was truly engaging to find what he liked and didn’t like or in this case had a great love for.
“Obsession? Eh, I wouldn’t… I wouldn’t say obsession. More like in love with? Ha, yeah, that sounds perfect. We can sit in rocking chairs on the porch while we yell at the neighborhood hooligans and then eat jello for dessert. I think this is the first time in a while I’ve met someone who’s actually going to grow old. It’s nice.”
“In love with, alright I guess I could agree with that but I mean obsession would still be more accurate. You can’t forget the hundreds of cats that will have on the porch, that’s a key component in it all. -- I hadn’t even thought of that in awhile. When you’re with so many vampires, you kind of fall into the pattern of thinking you’re one of them. Feeling young forever probably has it’s pluses but I’d rather experience everything life has to offer, growing old being one of them. It is a nice thing though, I’ve always pictured how I’d turn out when I grow old. I’d own a bakery and be one of those cool and hip old people in New Orleans but keep in mind.. they’re never cool and hip. Is it weird I’ve planned out my future for when I’m old?”
Her words make him laugh breathlessly, knowing she was correct. “I… yeah,” he agreed, nodding. “If I want to kiss you again and again, should I take you on more dates?” Noah asked, talking his way through the anxiety that kept piling up. She made him nervous but comfortable at the same time— it was so confusing. He really liked her, though, and didn’t want to let his nerves ruin that. Noah rubbed his mouth, trying to hide the cheeky grin he had, gaining more confidence slowly as the night continued. The one thing he didn’t have that Davina gave him was confidence… something he’d always wanted but never knew how to achieve. His hands shook as he grabbed the menu again, clicking his tongue as he scanned for a meal she’d like. “Well, this place is known for their pizza… but they also have awesome burgers. I’ve tried most of the things on this menu and I don’t think I’ve ever had a mediocre meal.”
She couldn’t help but let her smile grow more at his question, nodding once to answer him as she let out a soft breath quietly to herself. “I think that’s how it goes.” She wrinkled her nose slightly, stifling a laugh. Her nerves beginning to showcase, lowering her hands down on to the table as she tried to distract from her rosie cheeks, pointing toward a regular pepperoni pizza type of meal on his menu quickly. “Then I’ll have to try the pizza and see what has made you so obsessed with it. I want that one.” She stated bluntly, giving a slight nod. Davina leaned back in her seat, pressing her lips together for a moment, feeling her cheeks gradually begin to hurt from smiling so much but she really couldn’t help it. It was a natural act she always found herself doing when she was with Noah, her usual smug purse of the lips was hard to do when look at an adorable smile like his.
