Trust || Serenity & Dylan
Serenity had been informed that she was now the head nurse, having found out that her friend Charlotte Evans, had chosen to seek employment elsewhere. Serenity took the position, however with a heavy heart that her friend was no longer there. She swallowed hard, finding herself in the position of power over most of the medical and medicinal purposes around around Saint Louis Manor. A mighty big trial for someone who had only been a nurse for a little over two years now. But she took to it with the same passion she had this place, when she first arrived
"Dylan Mercer." She smiled, looking down at her clip board then back up at him. "Welcome back sweetie." She was glad to see that he had come back to them after being gone for a while. "Are you here for your normal?" She looked at him, as they walked inside the private room in the infirmary, the guard standing outside the door, for protection. "How are you sweetie? It’s been a while." Serenity looked at him and waited for him to speak, seeing if there was anything he wanted to say or talk about. Dylan was one of the first she connected with here, and she promised to always be there if he needed her. One of the few she would let herself get into trouble for.
Dylan still had trouble walking around on his own, but he managed to make it down the stairs and to the infirmary without assistance. Sure, he tripped quite often, and nearly broke his neck in the stairwell, but he was alive and only somewhat bruised. Even if he had gotten more injured, at least he'd gone to a place where he could get patched up all the same.
"Hey . . Yeah, I am," he said, following her into the room. "I'm doing okay; how are you?" Truthfully, he wasn't in the mood for random pleasantries, but that was better than standing there in silence, or so he thought.
After a moment, he started looking antsy - Dylan never liked getting shots, even if they came from someone he knew. In fact, that only made it a little worse; he couldn't be sure whether or not they'd do so again. If he'd been any more unstable, it could've made him lose trust, but luckily he wasn't that far gone yet.
Chasing | Zak + Dylan |
Zak nodded and stared at his feet for a moment. An idea came to mind and her shot past Dylan to the kitchens. Luckily, he was still on good terms with the cook so he grabbed two trays and filled them to the brim with food. It didn’t take him long to get back to Dylan with the trays of food. He set Dylan’s down on the table next to him as Zak took the counter more away from the kid.
"So…Your name is Dylan, you look to be about 20, give or take a few months. You tried to kill yourself by becoming Sparky. You’ve got a secret that only yourself and the medical staff know. You’re not an only child…I saw a couple and a son outside your hospital room when I was sent there for my own suicide attempt. Mine was a little more bloody than yours. Is there anything else I should know?"
Zak wasn’t known as a Shadow in London for nothing. Most of what he knew about the man in front of him was based on watching him or just paying attention to his surroundings.
"Do you wanna take a stab at me or are you just gonna stare at me with food falling off your fork?"
A soft smile graced Zak’s lips before he bit down on a slice of bread.
Dylan had no idea where Zak was running off to, but he didn’t question it aloud. Even so, he was somewhat surprised when the man returned with food - lots of it. He sat down with reluctance, picking up his fork and pushing the food around on his plate. Usually, he ate in his room, simply out of shame. He couldn’t keep the fork from shaking like a leaf when he picked it up, even now.
All the personal information he was bombarded with left him momentarily stunned, but he managed to crack a weak, uncomfortable smile. “That couple and son you saw was just by chance - my family never came, even while I … ” He trailed off there, debating what else to share.
“While I was in a coma. What else, though? Let’s see— the coma only lasted a couple days, but being legally deceased for ninety-seven minutes can do that to you. That’s all that’s happened to me recently, but no one ever asks me what I’ve done. Before you ask, let me just tell you. I burned down a house, with someone inside. He didn’t make it out, but it was still beautiful. Did you know that fire can burn different colors? There was a lot of wood, so it should’ve burned plain old orange and red, but the house had copper piping. You should’ve seen the surprise on the fire men’s face when they showed up to put out a fire laced with green flames!”
He always got a little overexcited when talking about fire - it was no wonder that now he looked a little embarrassed. “Sorry about that; I got carried away.”
Tethered I Dylan + Sawyer I
She hadn’t been truly listening to the boy as she sat there tearing, her fingers dug deep into the mess which clung to everything around them. Even her hair, a mess of wild curls held tight to what remained of the letter but she seemed not to notice, her mind was worrying about else where until something moved out of the corner of her eye. Looking up she stared at his hand, the action nonthreatening to some but terrifying to her. Why did he want to touch her she wondered as a lump grew in her usually dry throat “W-W-Why?” her eyes moved slowly back to his as she spoke “W-W— Why are y-you doing this? I m-mean…t-there a— are others y-y-you could eat w-with…”
Her fingers stopped as she waited for her answer, her eyes filling with the anxiety she always felt as the time seemed to stretch out around her. Memories of another helpful man played behind her eyes, a similar grin and helpful hand waiting for her to choose. Fear rolled in to her eyes then because she knew she’d never be able to trust him. No matter how much dessert he’d give her - they were all the same.
“True, but some of these people are pretty mean. You seem nice; I thought if try to get to know you.” He paused, dropping his hand back to his side. “Sorry if that scared you. You don’t have to touch me if you don’t want to.” Dylan was trying to be friendly and non-threatening, but sometimes it was hard when he didn’t know what his conversational partner was afraid of.
“If you’re scared of me for some reason, it’s alright to say so. Whatever it is, I’ll try to stop it if I can - and if you’d rather be alone, I can go.” While a moment ago he’d been trying to learn more about her, he now realized that she could very well be terrified of him, as well as everything else. He knew what it was like to be scared, and fear could make you do crazy things.
Tethered I Dylan + Sawyer I
She flinched from his touch her entire body seizing as she tugged herself free from his hold, the boys concern lost only momentarily as Sawyer simply swallowed the wad of chewed paper. What was he saying she wondered as the room spun with memories of the past, he was saying something wasn’t he? Swallowing again her wide eyes searched the boy’s face his lighthearted words falling on deaf ears as she continued to simply sit there, her lips falling agape as her mind fought hard to wrap itself around what was happening. What was happening?
The drugs she had been given had slowed her down but as quickly as she could she rebounded, her eyes tearing themselves quickly from the boy to look fearfully at the mess she had created. He would find her she thought her eyes growing wide once more. They would make it easy wouldn’t they? To get back at her for the mess, they’d let him have her. Her mind began its downward spiral as the truth of the letter lay tattered at her feet. In reality it had simply been a note to keep her informed, a letter written by a well meaning neighbour and nothing more but something about it had triggered her. Something about seeing his name again only seemed to make the darkness more and more real.
Shaking her head her frail fingers went to the paper again but this time she tore at it, worrying it away into tiny pulverized clusters as she finally worked up the courage to speak. “W-Why w-w— Why would you w-want to go wi-th m-m-me? A s-stranger.”
“You look like you could use the company,” he admitted, not minding that she’d pulled away, “and I’ve always felt like eating dessert is a more of a group thing than a personal experience. If you don’t like chocolate, I think they’ve also got peach cobbler out . . but their chocolate cake is tons better.”
Dylan was really just trying to make sure she didn’t eat more paper, and getting her out of there seemed like a good way to make hat happen. Besides, he wanted to spend time with people other than Zak, especially after that whole fiasco. It made him wonder where Jackson was, and whether or not he’d be willing to talk about some more serious stuff.
Realizing he was getting distracted, he shot her a sheepish grin, extending his hand toward her for her to take if she was comfortable. “C’mon; there’s nothing better to do here besides enjoy the dessert, anyways.”
Tethered I Dylan + Sawyer I
She sat amongst the storm that had once been a letter her eyes dancing quickly about while her body trembled chattering her teeth as the pieces of the offending thing fell like snow around her. She saw nothing but the pieces as she remained silent her mouth frozen in a grim line as the last of the note fell from the sky. She hadn’t been expecting it. They had told her she was safe. That her nightmares would be over but it would seem they lied. Everyone lies.
Swallowing hard she closed her eyes their darkness giving way to the pitch black fear which swam through her veins. She couldn’t control herself. Couldn’t stop her muscles as they jerkily forced her hands to seize those ruined pieces before her, shoving them into her mouth as her fingers scraped clumsily against her teeth. With a dry throat she swallowed as much as she could a part of her hoping to anything that by doing so it would destroy him. That her stomach would purge the memory as tears stung the backs of her eyes but she knew it could never be. He’d always be there.
Always and forever.
Dylan didn’t know where he was. The information that would usually accompany his entry to a room was simply gone. Since his accident, he’d gotten a bit forgetful, and this was one of the times when it really showed. Then again, he couldn’t see much of anything, what with the flurry of paper shreds obscuring his vision.
Spotting a girl in the midst of the madness, he went to approach, only planning on asking where all the paper had come from. Seeing her shove pieces of it in her mouth made him panic a little, but he did the calmer thing and took her hands as gently as he could.
“You really shouldn’t eat paper,” he teased lightly, trying to cover his concern. “Chocolate tastes a lot better, and I’m pretty sure they’re serving dessert in a minute or two. Do you want to go to the dining hall with me?” While his tone was quite a bit flirtatious, he was really just trying to be nice. His grip on her hands wasn’t even that tight; if she wanted to, she could get away, without any complications.
Chasing | Zak + Dylan |
Zak followed and grabbed Dylan’s hand, “Dylan…wait.”
It was then that he noticed just how small and soft Dylan’s hands were. He had carried the kid and knew he was small for his size but he didn’t realize just how feminine Dylan felt. He wanted to pull the kid back against him but instead he took the chance and pulled Dylan into an empty room. Zak dropped his hand and stepped back, keeping Dylan in front of the door.
"Dylan…I want you. Secrets and all. I have for a while…please…just give me this chance to make you smile."
He tensed a little as his hand was grabbed, ready to run if he needed to. While he'd most likely fall, maybe he could get to somewhere with other people first.
His hands weren't all that soft, due to the burn scars on them, but they didn't show signs of work, and they really weren't that all that big, as the man had been thinking. Dylan slid his hand out of Zak's grasp once he was in the room he'd been dragged into, a small frown on his face.
"How about you get to know me, then you can try this again? I'm pretty sure this is the second or third time we've met - this is real life, not a romance movie. Let's be friends first." His voice was firm, and he was careful not to say that he'd definitely get together with him - the twenty-year-old wasn't stupid.
Home || Dylan + Simmons
The provided answer deepens Simmons’ frown and he eyes the youth skeptically for a long pause as Dylan shut the door. “You don’t like me a whole lot, do you?” he wonders with a small smile, having grown use to an odd sense of hostility towards security guards and a general defensive response.
Content with the developing silence, the man gives the patient a candid look of exasperation before drawing in a deep breath and flattening out his expression. “Roebuck,” he supplies in a steady voice, “I think it’s stupid that I can’t tell you my first name, but that’s life”.
He hesitated before replying, unsure exactly what to say. "It's not that I don't like you - I just . . d-don't know you yet. If it makes you feel better, I don't dislike you." Dylan just wasn't comfortable around him yet.
The male raised his eyebrows at the surname he was given, ignoring the guard's look entirely. "That's a silly rule. At the place I was at before I got transferred here, they didn't really care . . . You don't really like talking, do you?"
Chasing | Zak + Dylan |
Zak stood there before he stepped towards Dylan again. His lips slammed against Dylan's again but he kept his hands on the wall. This time, Zak stepped away.
"I'm sorry..."
He tripped over his feet when he stepped back.
"I'm sorry..."
He squirmed under the pressure of his kiss, no longer comfortable with their situation. Once the older man drew away again, only then did he go to speak.
"Don't do that," he muttered, incredibly distressed.
Heading towards the dining hall again, he paused next to Zak, just for a moment. "Just . . ask first . . . " His words came out in a quiet mumble, and he walked away more quickly after, not sure why he'd said that at all.
zakjacobs:
Suddenly, the larger man was standing in front of Dylan. His hand slammed against the wall as he forced the kid to stop. Zak’s free hand cupped Dylan’s face, holding him still for just a moment before he decided to do anything. He felt something almost animalistic pulse through his veins as he stood there before he did the one thing that would get him into some deep shit with Dylan. Zak’s lips pressed firmly against Dylan’s in a rough kiss.
The hand against the wall moved and gently cupped Dylan’s hip as Zak brought him closer to his own body. Slowly, he pulled away, his tongue darting out over his lips.
When Zak came at him, he wasn’t at all prepared - he honestly thought he was about to be attacked. The kiss was even more unexpected, and although he was pissed off for a moment, it only took a second or two to completely submit to it. If anything, he seemed calmer now and completely into it, until the man moved one hand down to Dylan’s hip. His entire body tensed up, memories flashing through his mind.
The second that Zak pulled away, he shoved him back, shuddering and wiping his mouth as though to get rid of the memory of their lips touching. “What the fuck is wrong with you, man? You— You don’t do that!”
Chasing | Zak + Dylan |
Zak felt a little heartbroken that Dylan had walked away but Zak was determined. He followed behind the man slightly until they came to that empty hall, where Zak was blocking the only exit.
"I’m sorry…it’s just…you did capture my attention and I do have a bit of a crush on you. It was why I carried you to your room last time."
Zak looked down at the floor, this time keeping his distance from Dylan.
"W-Well-- you're being fuckin' weird," he said, still looking irritated. "Can you get out of the way so I can leave? I don't want to be stuck here with you."
He started pacing, getting antsy with being trapped as such. No matter what happened, he just wanted to get out of being stuck in a space such as this one; it was too small for him to feel comfortable in. He'd deal with Zak if he had to, but for the moment, he was willing to give the man a chance to get out of his way.

Chasing | Zak + Dylan |
"They did that once. Didn’t quite work for some reason. I ended up frying the machine."
He laughed softly and looked over at the other wall.
"C’mon, love. Why not give me a chance? I can take better care of you than Jackson or Kevin ever could. Oh…That might not have been the best thing to say. Let me start over. Dylan, please…grant me the pleasure of being able to protect such a beautiful creature such as yourself."
"What the hell, man? Get away from me." He started walking away from him, seriously creeped out now. Zak hadn't seemed so bad when he'd been carrying him, but now he was just being really freaky.
Dylan walked down the hallway in a random direction, attempting to get away but only managing to corner himself in a surprisingly empty hallway. It must've been a shift change in the guards, for no one was around. Unfortunately for him, anything that happened next would be his word against the older man's.
