Today I wanted to talk about Marlow Trottie. Marlow was a 35 year old Black woman living in Louisiana, whose friends and family described as always having "a smile on her face" and as being "literally the sweetest person I’ve ever met!”, according to Them news' Quispe López.

Marlow Trottie was killed on June 8th 2026. She was found dead, alone, in the streets of Alexandria, Louisiana. It was a homicide.

Marlow Trottie was a woman. Her family has contested this, and publicly misgendered her, and many news sites have already deadnamed and misgendered her as well. I fear what her obituary will say. I fear what her gravestone will say even more.

She joins a growing list of other trans women who have been killed simply for existing. Again from Them news, that list now numbers 11 women from the past 3 months alone.

jesus fucking christ the Ragatha nightmare scene is so scary

it happens all so fast but everryyy shot is horrifying and i especially like at the beginning when she's looking away, but whhat REALLY got to me about this scene was ive been under the impression for... honestly no reason that Ragatha was an only child. but the cut to the shot of her mom, surrounded by other ragdolls with her knives stuck in them............... all faceless, silent & lifeless, unable to defend themselves, or each other. or her. it gives me a kind of impression of Ragatha being an older/oldest sister, the one whose the most equipped to handle the abuse because she's had it the longest, but still helpless in face of it

this also maybe my favorite way you can visually show very serious physical abuse in a cartoony way that still matches the style of the whole show. and of course the confirmation of this makes ragathas entire character including her design. way more upsetting

from the button eye that shes implied to frequently lose, heer dress covered in patches, the fact that she's a ragdoll. down to her original introduction animation where she gets struck with a knife, laughs it off, and then expertly pulls it out, spins it and tucks it away

also definitely the millionth person to talk about this but the fact that she stops flinching at the knives once she's looking her mom in the face is fucking crazy. the physical consequences don't even scare her as much as somehow disobeying or showing a weakness to her mom does

what gets me about the spikes is after a split moment of realizing what happened she seems to.... look over at Jax. with that really odd, dead expression

+ her immediate reaction to being in physical danger + her method of reaching out for help .

ive pointed this out before but "That's literally my only fear!" is one of my FAVORITE Ragatha lines. she is constantly putting up SUCH a mask but the fact that she's nice makes it inadvertently feel sinister-- like if she's overly nice now, what is it she's hiding? (essentially an inverse of Jax, though Pomni definitely doesn't see her that way but i have other posts about Pomni)

It takes a second for her face to fall . once she remembers her mom . also idk about anyone else it feels a little too proper to call her 'mother'

so first off. im sure its just an animation quirk . but as soon as she talks about her mother she readjusts her dress. the fact she holds herself + touches the right side of her face too, and of course the immediate drinking afterwards plus denial, im sure thats fine

and i know people pointed out the trauma potential of the fact Jax subconciously accused Ragatha of 'trying to take advantage' of him, but also.

Theres plenty of focus on how the circus is implied to be the worst thing to happen in pomnis life as compared to everyone else, but i like seeing how everyone elses trauma manifests within it. I love that the knife imagery made a comeback

and of course, the immediate denial

and a bit to the fact that she's a fullgrown adult, theres plenty of times she seems to act like. well. kinda like a child . a very upset one

but what has seriously blindsided me more than anything was the implication that she wasn't alone when she ended up in the circus, and her phrasing makes it sound.... like a petty dare. or at the very least like she didnt want to do it

okay for some reason the nightmare episode 8 section is way more upsetting on rewatch and also im only talking about jax in this post sorry

first off, i didnt even REGISTER that the cut to Jax's was straight from Zooble's & their body dysmorphia whatever. im sure that means nothing

SECOND off, i didn't notice at first but the people go from unspecific faceless crowd but morph into ribbit + kaufmo + pomni. which is fucked up

physically makes me ill how much this guy is obsessed with other peoples perception of him. which i relate to for no reason JAX IS TRANSGENDER

i dont know why i never fully registered this but the Jax ducking in fear + being grabbed by his ears and pulled around is also really upsetting? oh my god?? i dunno. part of this is definitely fear of being treated the way he treats others but. whatever . this bit is just so scary to me. it hurts

also its Ribbit that grabs him, fucked up, and Pomni + Kaufmo that grab him by the arms and hold him down .

i really really desperately wanna know what the fuck is up with Jax & Ribbits relationship because there is definitely a difference between his relationships with everyone else including Kaufmo and Pomni as compared to Ribbit

these are three VERY different reactions, and im also realizing now the shot of each of them gets closer to the camera, which is fun.

A know a lot of people like to put Pomni in Ribbits shoes but this is in large part the reason I like putting Jax in Pomni's shoes-- befriending someone who seems outwardly mean, sarcastic & pessimistic because its the only person you have the opportunity to feel "real" around, and then having to watch them destroy themselves in front of you while theres nothing you can do to stop it, because youre not that kind of friends.

Jax only seems to be capable of making friends with people who are similar enough to him (even if he hates it), but it seems more like that was a learned action from Ribbit rather than the other way around, since Ribbit seems to be the main antagonist of the nightmare with Pomni & Kaufmo playing along.

^my favorite transcription/interpretation of the snow globe scene (transcribed by zoshizick on twitter) and I know this was color coded to have Jax be the antagonistic one, because that's how we've seen him, but I dunno. he doesnt seen upset here in the same way he is when he's thinking back on his own arguement with Pomni (where he seems alot more upset, and yes because he's self sabotaging but I also read it a bit as he knows Pomni doesnt deserve that. But he's so solemn here and I think looking back on a memory where Ribbit was awful to him would hit differently because he's under the impression he does deserve it.)
