YOU MUST BE OUT OF YOUR MIND.
The thought had become somewhat of a mantra since she’d left the school. What was she thinking, considering going along with something like this?
Once she’d escaped his ramblings and made it out of the building with her sanity mostly intact, she’d entertained the possibility of just going home, leaving him to sit at the diner for as long as it took for him to figure out that she had no intention of meeting him or going through with his god-awful, self dubbed ’ master plan ’.
It was a tempting idea that became much less appealing when she considered the fact that if she didn’t show today, she was in for another heavy dose of his prattling the next. Now that he SOMEHOW knew where her locker was - she hadn’t even thought to question him about that - avoiding him at school would be nearly impossible. Unless she hid out in her room for the rest of her life, she was sure to run into him again, and if he’d been a pain to deal with today, she was sure he’d be worse after being stood up.
She dragged her feet the entire way to the diner, making sure to take up the entire free half hour she’d been given to arrive. She wasn’t exactly eager to step through the doors of the diner again, to see him sat in the same spot as the past weekend, waiting for her arrival. Masking her expression as well as she could, and pointedly ignoring the look that a still DISGRUNTLED waitress threw their way, she crossed the diner and dropped down rather unceremoniously into the seat opposite of him.
❝ Let’s get this over with quickly. I’ve got better things to be doing, you know. ❞
FINGERING THE PAGES OF THE STAR TREK COMIC HE HAD SPREAD OUT OVER THE TABLE, his gaze shifted only to see if his company had finally arrived. Wilbur had been there fifteen minutes early in their ‘ usual ‘ spot as to make finding him easier-- entirely oblivious to the waitress’ glare from the prior night as he waltzed towards the booth. Although he looked fully composed, the hurried pace in which he carried himself was the crack that revealed the racing state of his mind.
Sure, he’d put plenty of thought into this ‘ plan ‘ over the course of the weekend, not to mention getting his accomplice to agree was surely the biggest hurdle to overcome. Yet he couldn’t help but ponder if this really was a stupid idea like she said. I mean-- she had a point; he really couldn’t stand her. Girls like her who acted like they were above anybody in their path frustrated him like crazy. So if he couldn’t stand her-- how on earth was he going to convincingly appear as her boyfriend no less?
Despite his concerns, his will to remain collected kept pushing his concerns to the side. You’ve got this, man. You’re thinking too much. But alas, this constant war made it difficult to concentrate fully upon the pictures & text before him as he waited.
He’d barely noticed her as she approached-- not realizing her presence until she slipped into the seat across from him. To say that she’d startled him was an under- statement; his hands went flying to close his comic as his back jolted straight against the plushy vinyl back of his chair. The brief deer-caught-in-the-headlights- look remained for only seconds before he relaxed back to his usual composure, a cheeky smile forming upon his lips.
❝ Hm, let me think-- ❞ he paused, his glance shifting towards the ceiling in thought. ❝ -- You make sure that I don’t get SLAPPED this time, and I’ll make sure to keep this brief. Do we have a deal? ❞

❝ WHAT? NO! I’m not trying to-- ❞
HIS VOICE WAS SHRILL & DEFENSIVE BEFORE IT TAPERED OFF INTO SILENCE. His brows unraveled & lips parted as the reality of her words & the shock of her reaction started to sink in; god, did she really think he was serious? Obviously she wasn’t always a walk in the park to be around-- && SURE, he made himself pretty clear when the two of them had found themselves in yet ANOTHER argument. But despite their disagreements he never thought some- thing was wrong with her-- let alone enough to write an entire BOOK.
❝ Wait a minute, MARIE-- ❞ although his words came out hushed they remained firm in tone. ❝ -- Do you really believe that I think something’s WRONG with you? ❞
// whoooOO HAPPY BELATED HOLIDAYS EVERYONE ♥ anywhoo, inactivity much?! sorry guys! it’s been a bit hectic on the flip side of the monitor with xmas & my job and such ( not to mention my muse for riley has been sliiightly edging my muse for wilbur as of late ... ) i really want to change that however so i’ll try and be a bit more active on here ♥ i hope you guys can forgive me & that you all continue to have a ( hopefully! ) wonderful & cozy holiday season!

I’ve been to the year three thousand Not much has changed but they live underwater And your great great great grand-daughter Is doing fine.. Doing fine!
✨🌈🌻░ NOT her family, right. as if she didn’t know that already. his words make her feel worse rather than better. he knows they love her, and wouldn’t mind her staying, but he wants her to go back. does he not care about her happiness, or is this him not wanting to share his wonderful relatives ? ? why couldn’t she stay ? ? everyone at home could just think she ran away ; not completely false. her face is stoic with stubbornness as she tries not to cry, and if she shakes her head even a little, she knows the tears will fall. ❝ and what, you don’t ? ? you don’t want me around, is that it ? ? ❞ it wouldn’t surprise her at this point.
HIS ARMS FLEW UP DEFENSIVELY and his head started to frantically shake from side to side; as if he was trying to signal the biggest ‘ no ‘ he could without raising his voice. ❝ No--RILEY, that’s not it ! ❞
Although they were unconventional and, at times embarrassing, to be around-- his family was really his PRIDE&JOY. He was proud of his roots, and the idea of inviting someone new into their doors-- someone who was RADIANT & seemed to love them and overlook their differences was-- well, nothing short of grand. Sure, sharing the attention would be a bit BIZARRE after being the only child of the house for so long-- but it was something he would be willing to accept. In fact it might be nice to NOT be on the receiving end of all the attention for once. Not to mention there would finally be someone his age to hang around the house with ...
Come to think of it, he wouldn’t mind the extra company at all.
But NO, this wouldn’t be right-- she’s already got a family. She has a future to live for-- and he can’t mess that up. NOT AGAIN.
Eyes softening, his sky high energy took a nosedive straight back down to earth. ❝ Riley, I would be HAPPY to share what I’ve got-- believe me, I really would. But--- ❞ he paused; teeth biting down on his bottom lip as his gaze shifted away from her stoic look. ❝ you can’t stay. Not when you already have a family WAITING for you at home. ❞

✨🌈🌻░ ❝ YOU don’t understand wilbur, they don’t want me ! ! things are so much better here, your family loves you, and i feel like i belong. i don’t want to go back, don’t send me somewhere i’m not wanted. ❞ they have maya and auggie, why is she needed ? ? ❝ please, i want to stay. ❞
@e-xcellentquestion
❝ RILEY-- ❞ SOMETHING TWISTED IN HIS GUT, and for a moment he swore he could hear Lewis’ younger self in her plea to stay. He remembers this conversation far too well-- the feeling of not belonging, the need for a family that truly understands. His urge to help her was already at war with the little voice in his head that was telling him not to help-- as the last time something like this happened, he was nearly wiped from existence.
❝ Look, you’re RIGHT. My family LOVES you & they’d be absolutely thrilled to have you around! But they’re NOT your family. YOUR family is at home-- in the PAST. && I’m sure there’s nothing they want more than to have you home with them. ❞
“I swear, you are the only person I know who makes decisions based on what will provide the best material for a diary.”
HIS SHOULDERS & ARMS LIFTED INTO A SHRUG, a look of innocent nonchalance playing through his features. ❝ The way I see it is, if I’m going to have an autobiography one day– and I will– then I’m going to have to do some pretty autobiography worthy things in my life.❞
