wearyhands.
a voice laced with familiarity fills the tense space, valeria’s gaze flickering towards her boyfriend’s general direction. ever so grateful for the interference, the dark haired girl clears her throat ( cautiously ) as to not escalate the ordeal any further. ‘ uh –– yeah ! ’ she’s quick to interject, fearful of distasteful words threatening to spill past lucas’ lips if she hadn’t spoken first. the UNWAVERING bond that had formed between them relieved her of her ex-boyfriend’s daunting implications, albeit only temporarily. nevertheless, this is sufficient to leave her gravitating in bryce’s direction, murmuring a strained goodbye before a d a m a n c y to create distance between them overtakes all else. footfalls trail rapidly behind her as valeria makes her way towards the exit, holding FAITH that her boyfriend would be following closely. it’s only when they reach the car that even a s h r e d of tension has been eliminated on her end, silence dawning over them as she unwillingly allows her own thoughts to consume her.
bryce was reluctant to turn and leave, pivoting away only moments after val had taken lead. the scene laid out had left him uneasy, the look on vals face, her obvious closed demeanor still evident. the boy looked behind his shoulder for a second as he walked away, confused and still trying to understand what had happened within the few minutes it took him to come back. it still picked at his brain as he unlocked his car, slipping in, shoulders tense, and he hadn’t realized it but bryce was holding his breath. looking over at val, starting his car, and attempting his best at reading the expression she held, bryce was quick to realize that it wasn’t one she normally kept. ‘ you okay ? ’ he’s asking, beginning to drive. there was very little that could have struck this cord. perhaps, he had done something wrong in his attempt to fit in, said the wrong thing or acted in a manner that was not up to regulation. he began dissecting every movement he had made upon arriving.
