Winter in the mountains can be extraordinarily special.

When a snowstorm has whirled through for days. When the wind afterward calms and the air stays frostily cold. When the snow has settled like icing sugar on every tree; coating hillsides, mountain peaks, and the frozen lake below. When the clouds clear and the deepest blue skies emerge in their vibrant beauty.

Imperfections erased. Sounds quieted. Time stopped.

The calm after the storm.
