# ‘you’re going to take a breath…and save my life’ # (i mean that’s what I heard anyone else?) # supergirl # spoilers # 2x08 # supercorp # oh my god # my gay feels # my heart # you guys my heart # kara’s faith in lena # the juxtaposition between the Danvers and the Luthors when it comes to adoptive families # its so great # because the Danvers loved Kara so so much # she never doubted that not for a second # and while its clear Lena adored Lex she couldn’t save him # which suggests she feels like she wasn’t important enough to him to get him to listen # in contrast to Alex and Kara # who save each other over and over again # who are each other’s rock # Lena doesn’t have that # Lena’s all alone # and then along comes Supergirl # who isn’t her family but (might?) be her friend # and tells Lena ‘I believe in you’ # don’t tell me Lena isn’t starved for that # someone telling her 'i believe you are good’ # those words hit her like a punch to the chest # and this is what I love so much about the show # (when it gets it right) via (@racethewind10)
also–just look at lena’s face in the second gif. this is supergirl, the woman who is supposed to, as cat grant put it, embody everything good in this world. she helps little old ladies across the street and gently interferes when she sees a kid being bullied and helps out a couple put together their IKEA furniture, telling her that she’s more than the luthors, and not only is she smart and good, but also that she’s nothing like her mother, giving specific traits. meaning lena is warm and caring
how many times do you think lena luthor has been told by teachers and classmates and so called “friends” who are just trying to use her that she is cold and unfeeling and just like the rest of her family. And here’s Supergirl, someone who has an actual legitimate reason to treat her with kid gloves (who knows what kind of access she has to projects lex was working on? If lena wanted to, she could destroy kara. Not to mention now 2 out of 4 members of the Luthor family have tried to kill the last of the El’s and harbor anti-alien sentiment–yeah, caution isn’t a stupid thing to have), but is treating Lena more humanely and warmly than anyone ever has, maybe.
She’s telling Lena what she wants to hear–but that’s just it. Lena wants to hear it, wants someone to acknowledge that she’s been trying to be better than expectations, trying to be a good person, wants someone to care–and that person is Kara. And by living up to Kara’s expectations, she’s proving Kara right (well not entirely, she can be dangerous. But then again, so can literally everyone in Kara’s life. J’onn, Alex, Eliza, Lucy, Cat, and even Winn and James (we saw what the toy maker was capable of, and the head of a media empire? Yeah, not safe) are good people, but that doesn’t mean they’re exactly “non-threatening”.
And it’s another thing that sets kara apart from all the sycophants that have been in her life–kara’s asked for favors a few times, but they’re never for her. They’ve always been for someone else, keeping someone else safe. Kara never really wanted anything other people have wanted from her–money, power, influence. She’s just wanted to find out the truth, or keep her friends safe, using information Lena already had. All Kara’s ever wanted was Lena’s time. She didn’t want Lena Luthor–Kara wanted Lena
