Slavery begun with black people enslaving other black people, tens of thousands of years ago. White people ended it.
Slavery did not necessarily begin with blacks. Slavery has existed in every culture everywhere. We have to assume that even older cultures that we barely know anything about also participated in the practice. But it was certainly ended in the west by white europeans. That, we know for sure.
I was running with the generally-accepted premise that humanity first emerged in Africa, though of course there are compelling arguments against that too. I think the oldest written record of slavery appears in Sumeria (now Iraq) about 5000 years ago, but certainly within Africa itself, slavery was begun with Africans owning and selling other Africans.
The point is, wherever human beings were, thousands of years ago, so was slavery. It is only the white europeans of the past couple hundred years who eradicated it in the territories they controlled, leading to the revulsion we all feel for it today.
