This was one of two “monster trees” that I found while walking through the less traveled areas of Fort Loudon State Park this afternoon. Mind you all, this monstrosity stood near one of the house sites I had come across, a site that I had never seen before. I have a rather interesting story about how I came across this area.

I’m not sure what’s going on with this tree. It appears to me that at some point in time, the tree fell over and landed on top of another tree, which is somehow holding its own weight and the weight of the other tree. It was a freakish mass of tangled branches and vines, undulating across the clearing. Made me feel uneasy!
