Victoria getting pregnant is the push Jack needed. He swiftly divorced Thea (completely blindsiding her) and proposed to Victoria at the docks near her house.

Jack hasn't been a faithfull husband to Thea in decades. However, not once in all this time did he consider leaving her.

Having his children move out, coming out of a midlife-crisis and retiring from his emotionally fulfilling but financially never successful job as a fisher all within a few months from each other, however, is a lot. Jack starts to question his marriage: Thea seems old and drab and while Jack always loved her devotion to their family and home, he now scoffs at her perceived lack of ambition.

He meets Victoria through Sutton and is soon head over heels for her. Not only does she embody the feminine qualities he appreciates in woman, she is also very career-driven and knows what she wants.
