Ways To Personally Reduce Your Carbon Footprint
By: Christina Klonis
At our last club meeting, we discussed methods we use to reduce our personal carbon footprints. The group shared many valuable points that are easily implemented.
Diet Change: Veganism, vegetarianism, or simply trying to be as plant-based as possible is best for the environment. According to VICE, 1,800 gallons of water are used to produce only one pound of meat. It is best to avoid red meats and dairy products when trying to make your diet more environmentally friendly. Whether you want to commit to becoming vegan, participate in "Meatless Mondays", or swap out your 2% milk for oat milk, any step in the plant-based diet direction is helpful.
Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle: Making a small effort to implement this alliteration goes a long way. Reduce your consumption by growing some of your own vegetables if you have the space at home. When shopping, use your own reusable bags rather than paper or plastic. At home, be sure to recycle materials that are meant to be, and try out composting food if you don't already.
These are just some practices mentioned by our club members to live a more environmentally friendly life. Feel free to comment any other means of reducing your carbon footprint that you use!
