It is unnamed because I am unoriginal. I wanted to write this because I don’t see any Will and Nancy interaction but you’re lying if you wouldn’t think she’d be super nice to him and especially so since she poked him with a fire stick. This is a bit of a more fun fan fiction, but it’s also supposed to give us a perspective into Nancy and Will’s relationship. Side of Byler, I’m sorry I couldn’t resist. And I’m sorry if this sucks, I tried my best! Hope you enjoy guys!
It was about 30 minutes after the Snowball dance. Everyone had gone home, even the whole party, except for Will. Mike had gone with El and Hopper since she had told him she wanted to have a sleepover. Lucas’ mom picked him up, and so did Max’s mom. Dustin left the earliest as she had picked up Dustin in time for her to watch her favorite TV show.
Nancy and Jonathan were the only other people there with Will. Jonathan was in the gym putting all of his camera equipment away. Will and Nancy sat in the curb outside the gym, waiting for their parents. Joyce had gone home with Hopper to make sure Mike and El were alright, and would probably stay to smoke a cigarette with Hop, Will thought.
“So, did you have fun?” Nancy asked Will, breaking the awkward silence. “I saw you dancing with a girl.”
“Oh yeah. That.” Will said and he couldn’t help but sound disappointed. “Do you not like her?” Asked Nancy. “No no! It’s not that! She was nice.” Will said simply. “It’s just…she wasn’t really the person I wanted to dance with.”
“Oh, she wasn’t? Did you have another girl in sight?” Nancy continued, now curious to see who the mysterious gal was.
“No. Not exactly” Will said slowly.
“Ok. So who was it?” Nancy questioned. Will was quiet and wouldn’t look at Nancy in the eyes.
“Was…” Nancy stopped to gather her words. “Was it not a girl?”
Will finally looked up. He shook his head slowly.
“Was it a boy?” Asked Nancy, suddenly realizing what it meant.
“Y-yes.” Will said quietly.
“Oh.” Nancy said and was quiet for a moment. “That’s cool”
“It is?” Will looked at Nancy to see if he found any trace of mockery or sarcasm. But he found only a genuine look from her.
“Yes. It is.” She said in return. “It’s just who you like Will. It doesn’t make you less than others”
“Thank you,” Will said “I thought no one would understand. I thought they’d hate me…”
“Oh Will, your friends could never hate you. They love you!” Nancy reassured him. “So, can I ask who it is?”
“Ummm. It was-I mean is…” Will fidgeted with his fingers.
“Will. It’s ok. I don’t mind. You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want.” Nancy took Wills hands in her own and looked into his eyes.
“No! I want to tell you. It’s just…hard.” Will finished lamely.
“That’s fair. Like I said, you can take your time if you really want to tell me.”
“Ok. I think I’m ready” Will said and took a deep breath. “It’s-it’s Mike…” Will whispered, but Nancy heard him as clearly as the sky above them.
“Oh, ok.” Nancy said slowly, thinking. “I don’t know how I didn’t guess that.”
“What?” Will asked confused. “You knew?”
“Kind of. I mean you guys have been friends for a long time. You have a special bond.”
“Yeah.” Will admitted as he got butterflies in his stomach. “I’ve liked him for a long time,” Will looked into the distance, as if he could somehow look through all the buildings and trees all the way to Hoppers cabin. “But he’s with Eleven. He’d never like me”
Nancy burst into a round of laughter and tears started streaming from her face. “Will, are you kidding? My brother is in love with you!”
“What?” Will said, a little freaked out by the revelation. Nancy was usually level headed, but to Will it seemed like she had gone insane. “What do you mean by that?”
“I mean he’s obsessed with you. He stayed by your side through the whole mind flayed situation. He said the best thing to ever happen to him was meeting you.” Nancy said, and continued when Will’s face still showed disbelief. “He’s my brother for Gods sake. I know when he loves someone. You know, you and Jonathan are both pretty oblivious when it comes to us Wheelers”
“But, but he’s with El! I just saw them kiss!” Will screamed. He couldn’t let his hopes up, or he’d be brought down harder by reality.
“Yeah, I did too. Look, I think that this will all play itself out soon. El won’t last long with Mike. They’re just both young and barely know each other.” Nancy said. “Mike cared about her, but he is crazy about you. He never shuts up about you. Trust me, he likes you.”
“You really think so?” Will asked. He was still doubting himself and Nancy.
“I know so. Trust me I’ve got a knack for these types of things. And i know my family. Mike definitely feels something for you that he doesn’t feel with any other party member.”
In that moment, the gym doors opened and Jonathan stepped out. “Hey,” he said as the doors closed. “What did I miss?”
“Oh nothing.” Will and Nancy said at the same time, and they laughed together.
Will and Jonathan sat in the back of Joyce’s car as she drive them home. “You guys have fun?” She asked. “Yeah,” both of the Byers brothers answered.
Will looked at Jonathan and whispered “Jonathan?”
“Yeah buddy? What’s up?” Jonathan asked. “I like Nancy. She’s great. Don’t mess it up between you guys.” Will said.
“Ok!” Jonathan laughed. “I like her too. I hope I won’t mess it up.”
And for the first time in a long time, Will felt hope bloom in his chest
