I'm trying to make a "Belle comes out to Colt" comic but I'm not sure how to do it...
An older Belle and Colt are having tea together, and Belle asks pretty bluntly if Colt likes men. Colt denies it out of fear, Belle is a little sad, but she reassures him. She says she's asking because she just recently accepted the fact that she liked women herself.
Colt is shocked but a bit more comfortable. Belle explains that ever since she was little, the Starrs forced her to give up parts of herself in order to conform to the image of a perfect daughter.
She thought she had escaped, but those morals never really left her. Making her deny her bisexuality and even adopting homophobic behaviors for a very long time. Having to hide was painful, but so was the fear of showing herself.
She asks if this is what Colt felt like when he was with her. He says yes with his head, recalling the restrictions, the mockery, the neglect she inflicted onto him (nothing really really bad but still absolutely not okay). Colt replies that everything that she just said didn't change anything. If she felt the same, why did she still do all of this?
Belle says that there is no excuse for all the pain she caused him. She does not want forgiveness, all she wants is her son's happiness. She promises she'll never force him to be anything he doesn't want to. He's beautiful and brave, but also a little vain and clumsy, and she's proud of him. And even if he's lost right now, he should be proud of how much he fights to be himself.
Belle apologizes, Colt is very touched, his mother has never been so open to him. He doesn't want to forgive her, but he can't help but hug her when he sees she can actually change and accept him.
Okay, fine, I like men, you happy now?
Idk what do you guys think?
(One last thing to clarify, Belle never insulted Eddy for liking men (he didn't even know he liked them until his early adulthood), nor did she ever was like "we should kill gay ppl". She DID mock her son for being more feminine, or threw the f word here and there.
I just don't want you guys to think that "I hc her as homophobic" and that's it. She's FAR from being some kind of evangelic conservative but she does still have iffy behaviors bc of internalized homophobia and the way she was raised.)
Hi tumblr, it's been a while, I can't doomscroll as much with my new job, so that's why I've been kinda MIA.
I've been kinda nervewracked lately because of multiple factors (nothing serious dw), so it's been too difficult for me to focus and draw good stuff lately. So I'm on a little drawing break.
That said still think getting my floating ideas out by writing them here will help me untangle this whole mess so here we are:
I'm thinking of some sort of future au thingy for Colt, after he finally managed to escape from the Starrs. He decides to settle down in Oldtown and exercise his ranger duties alongside Shelly and Spike, but this time, without the cruch of the Park controlling them.
It seemed fine at first, but very soon Colt found how lost and alone he really was. With all of his artifices stripped away from him, he realized that, at the age of about 30, he barely had an identity to call his own. Sure, he liked to care about his appearance, he liked his little tricks, and he was still a skilled fighter. But all these things, he learned them to be loved and admired by others. He could still distract himself with this in public, but now, it always felt pointless and empty. Being alone was miserable. His alcoholism would get even worse, and this started to seep through his work and daily life. At one point, he just couldn't hide behind a pretty smile anymore.
Thankfully, his friends were there to support him (or kick his ass when he was going too far), but it was still a process he needed to go through himself. It proved to be very difficult, since he had to basically start everything over (which is honestly understandable).
But eventually, the rangers find an abandoned baby in the junkyard. She was a little girl with red hair and a disability (idk what it would be yet though), and they theorized she was a bastard child from the Starrs who was left behind. Shelly and Colt took her in, while they were looking for her parents, but nobody ever came to claim her. During this period, them, and the whole town became very attached to the child, and Shelly suggested they'd take care of her.
It meant a lot to her. Shelly's childhood was very short, in fact, she had lost her home and part of her family because of the feud between the Starrs and the Goldarm. She had to grow up quickly to provide for what was left of it, and it had left her regretful of the innocence she left behind, and guilty of the person she became during that time. Shelly didn't want the same fate to happen to other children, and wanted to use the more comfortable life she had now, to take care of the baby, and give her a normal childhood. However Colt categorically refused, he completely understood Shelly, and he did want the same thing, but he was just too much of a mess at the time. He saw himself in the kid, and was just terrified of ruining her, like his parents did him.
Shelly reluctantly acceptes this, but still took the child in herself, trying to raise her like her own daughter, alongside the rest of her family. However, she would very often pass the child to Colt when she had to deal with other stuff. So he had no choice but to take care of her. It was difficult, and messy in the beginning, he probably secretly broke down a few times because of self-doubt. But by force of habit, he quickly came around to her.
I'm kinda bothered, I wanted to tilt them a bit to do like the ref I had but now they're completely facing away from the entrance. I might have to redo them entirely lmfaoo
Friends, should I use Oak wood or jungle wood (it's the same colour as the brigde) for the towers? Oak wood stands out better against the wall but jungle is a bit more accurate and prettier imo.
Also now you have a little view of how the park is progressing!
I've been listening to The Downward Spiral by NIN a lot this week because it makes me think of Sholt. Now I want to make a series of little drawings based on it.
Here I will ramble about the little narrative I constructed about them around this album. Warning big useless fangirling and overinterpretation of mobile game characters.
Also CW for suicide and all the studf around it.
Here we go :
-"Mr. Self Destruct" is a boogeyman the protagonist (here Shelly) made up in their head to pin all their misery on. For Shelly, it's Belle, Eddy, the Park and herself all at once (but it mostly takes the form of Eddy). It appears to her and announces that he embodies everything that went wrong, and beckons her towards a comforting place, a path of self-destruction. Together they enter the downward spiral.
-Piggy is Shelly's backstory, and the birth of "Mr. Self-Destruct". She progressively loses her home, her friends and her family, and becomes a violent, savage and apathetic criminal. In the end, it's just her, battered and bruised, and the silent desert, painfully walking towards her next target.
-Heresy is the same story of rebellion told 3 times with different characters. Belle tells of the Starr's atrocities and how she's ready to become the villain to see it all burn. Eddy tells the story of how he escaped said villain to become Colt, and Shelly telling how she met Colt, and how she found out he was a fraud. He might look perfect, but he's just as pathetic as any other human.
-March of the Pigs is your typical "consumerism bad" song, but apply that to Starr Park and it's cooler. Colt is a litteral brand mascot, and people are feeding off his body. Shelly is disgusted and fascinated at the same time, she enjoys seeing him being torn apart, but she doesn't understand how he can keep smiling. Until Colt warmly bekons her in his arms, and a glimpse of Mr.SD can be seen in him, she starts savagely indulging as well. Both of their broken bodies lie down together in the end.
-Closer is THE Sholt song. Shelly and Colt indulge in their fantasies of self-destruction as they get "closer" together... hehe... Shelly pervertly tears Colt's seams apart, as he offers his soft insides. It's nothing but a featureless, rotting mass, that Shelly embraces and caresses.
-Ruiner is the return of Mr.SD, in the form of a grown Eddy, bigger than ever after that disgusting altercation. She feels the world around her has become even worse, but at the same time, her only way to hold on, is to indulge in her self-destructice behaviors. She projects Mr.SD onto Colt, who she start to "use" more and more to cope with her feelings.
-Becoming is the only song that's really from Colt's POV. It's about his metamorphosis into a perfect, unfeeling being. Leaving his sentitive, angry and afraid self to rot in a beautiful metallic shell. He allowed Shelly to see inside, but she started to force it open more and more, as much as he liked this, it was too painful. So he ran away.
-I do not want this, pretty explicit, it's the divorce arc. They're both mad because they feel betrayed, but they also feel awful for what they did. Ultimately, they do want each other's love but they feel like they could never give it properly. So Colt isolates himself, and Shelly starts wishing for more power.
-Big Man with a Gun, as a way to get back to Colt, Shelly starts caricaturing him as an idiotic alpha man with a gun in her head. But in her fantasy, she slips up and reveal she wants him to kill her.
-A warm place
-Eraser Shelly and Colt meet up again, losing themselves in each other.
After his tragic passing, Mortis mysteriously crawled out of his own grave. While his twin brother was euphoric to see him back, he couldn't help to notice that he had changed. Most of Mortis' bodily functions shut down; and yet, he was still walking and talking like nothing happened. He didn't need to eat or sleep, his injuries healed extremely fast, and his heart stopped beating, Mortis became as cold and pale as a cadaver. Because everyone was horrified by what he had become, he hid himself, and only came out at night. But his brother never gave up on him, Mortis was cursed with this horrendous form, but he was not a monster, he promised to stay by his side forever. Obviously, he couldn't hold such a promise.
Timeline of Colt's disasteous romantic relationship :
-His first ever partner was someone he met at the park, he was a rising star at the time, and he was really excited about young love, as he never got to experience it before because of his family. They made a really sweet couple for a while, but they broke up when they matured and changed personalities. Notably, his partner didn't like how he was becoming a caricature of himself. But to this day, it's probably the only relationship that he remembers fondly.
-Then as he was beginning to be really popular, one of his biggest fans, who gave him a lot of love and attention. So of course he was immediately hooked. He quickly realized this was a mistake, as he actually didn't like them back, and that the power dynamic was a little weird. So he quickly broke up with them while explaning everything, he also told them that they should focus on themselves instead of obsessing over a stranger. They were heartbroken of course, but it had to be said, I think they're no longer a Colt fan.
-Then he dated someone normal, it might've even looked like they could settled down together. But it didn't work out because refused to open up and be real with his partner, he was too scared to be rejected or to tarnish his image, so he acted like everything was always fine. They left him because they couldn't be with someone who didn't trust them.
-A bit later, when he moved to Oldtown, he briefly dated Piper, who found him really charming and gave him a lot of affection. Colt mistook this as her wanting be comitted, when Piper is more of fleeting lover. He began to exert himself to get more attention, and Piper noticed how wrong this was, so she broke up with him. Thankfully he got over it and they both see this ordeal as a silly mistake.
-(Cw for SA for this one? But please tell me if this is going too far). The very last person he ever really dated seemed like a kind person, who really listened to him and immediately lovebombed him. It was good for a while, but it slowly turned very toxic, they took unwanted pictures of them together, flaunted their relationship to their friends, inserted themselves in his job, and even groped him. It became clear they were only with Colt for his fame and his body. Whenever he'd tell them to stop, they'd call him names and threaten to ruin his reputation until he caved. Idk how this ordeal ended but he's better now.
Maybe Angelo and Willow heard about this mess and threw them off a cliff idk.
So now you understand why he prefers to kiss a mirror.
Do you that if it was publicly reveales that Colt was bi, Starr Park would try to capitalize on it by making a bunch of lgbt marketing? Like what happened to Queen Maeve in The Boys.
