My white knuckles grasped,

the unsolved mysteries,

inside my head.

Moods changing,

like a night light’s colours.

An unbitten apple of knowledge,

few will ever get the reward of learning.

With a certain gentleness,

you built me a mental empire.

You traced my smile into the concrete,

and made the sun hover above me in the sky.

Clinking through my head,

fixing my pieces,

and answering all my questions.

Curly beams of sunshine sat fiercely,

just barely at her shoulders .

With each step she took,

seeds were left in her foot prints,

planting ivies of new ideas,

and nurturing a new world.

““What do you want to be when you grow up?”, I remember these words leaving my lips pointed in your direction. I can’t remember what you answered, It changed every time i asked. Ignorant to the fate of eight years later, No time to grow up. No time to say goodbye. As if the missed graduations, festivals, and birthdays weren’t enough, Time creeped up on me. A shadowy figure in the night who stole the years, Outlived. Like a wildflower tangling out of the cement cracks, I planted the strong seeds of your memory in the most unexplainable places. Though it has been nearly four years, The warm summer winds still carry your laughter. I feel it dancing through my hair. The birds still whisper your name, It echoes through the trees when I listen close.”

Reaching for the fabric of my jeans,

to feel the touch,

without my brain’s permission.

Tugging at the seams,

just to feel something,

actions beyond my control,

but within my boundaries.

Detaching from my body.

I am an alien in my own thoughts.

The gentle humming of my diffuser resides under my breath.

Flooding the air with essential oils,

in hopes of saving my mind,

silently begging it to take my sadness away.

If only lavender could soothe my restless thoughts,

Or aloe could erase my memories of you.

The soft glow and sound rocks me to sleep,

in the way I wish you would at night,

when I️m craving your touch,

and you’re not ready to give it to me.

I fall asleep to deep sobs,

coming from the basement.

Echoing through the vents,

as he screams,

“I try so hard...”,

he sobs,

“... everyone hates me,

and I try so hard”.

My bones ache,

without settling.

I toss in unmanageable sorrow.

For those same feelings,

once my own not so long ago.

Those same sobs through the vents,

now we have switched places,

a mirror in his eyes.

A world I crave where,

kids can go to parties and make friends, without coming home in tears,

convinced they aren’t good enough.

And go to school to be educated,

not to learn what is flawed,

in their appearance.

Where no children are left alone in empty hallways,

feeling like their tears are a nuisance,

feeling like they’re better off dead.

The weight of the world,

rests on the shoulders.

Sometimes with an ease,

Back straight and hair pinned back.

Other times without such a grace.

The inside of my mind a war zone,

battling over my sanity.

Knees weak below me.

Your shoulders are much stronger,

than my stance when I’m breaking.

Thank you for taking the weight of the oceans,

for I can always refill them with my sorrow.

It always seems to be you,

who lightens the gravity.

There is something about the way the leaves fall,

gently at first,

and with ease.

As if they know they will land,

on the ground in safety,

in beautiful colours.

An array of natural beauty.

Envious,

as I wish I could fall,

with such dignity and grace.

I wish I️ could leave behind colours,

and have certainty in the way,

everything will happen as it should,

and the knowing that I will land,

wherever the universe needs me.

Sometimes,

the skin that covers my soul,

feels wrong.

Like if I could only shed 40lbs,

people could see the real me,

treat me like the real me.

Treat me like a human being.

For some reason,

an extra few pounds on the hips,

is a worse quality than being,

a bully.

Weight can build and disappear on my body,

like snow blowing into drifts,

and then slipping away.

Never permanent.

But the frosty winds can never unfreeze,

or move,

or shift,

the heart of an individual,

who feels the need to remind me I am less,

than someone who has a gap between their thighs.

My body doesn’t feel like home. Sometimes I want to escape it for one that is more beautiful.

Days feel like years,

Apart from you..

I crave:

Our bed,

Our couch,

Our house.

Crawling in together,

end of the day,

soft breaths in my ear,

feet tucked into you.

Pictures flash through my mind.

Where I thought I would be,

is not where I am.

Where I am,

is where I thought,

I would never be again.

I just want to live with my best friend.

Fret sunken eyes look back at me through the mirror,

same as the day before,

yet,

somehow unfamiliar.

The soft and subtle curve of the lips in sync with mine,

“Why do you have to be like this?”.

My hand slams down on the counter,

An unexplainable fortress of solitude has become my brain.

Sometimes I’m not me,

or I just don’t want to be.
