“You have nothing to worry about Arnold.” Lilith assured him with a wink. She turned and took Edger by the arm. “Let’s be on our way then.”

“So, Lilith,” Edgar began, leading her to the elevator, down to the lobby, and out into the crisp Manhattan air, “Are you from the city? You seem like a New York woman to me.”

“That sounds wonderful. Let me just finish up here with your brother, hm?” she asked motioning towards Arnold with a nod

“AR, you won’t mind if I take your lovely friend here out for a drink, will you?” Even if his brother had protested, Edgar would have ignored it. He held his hand out for her to take, grinning in a way that made him feel much younger than he was. “I would love to get to know her.”

“Oh, you’ll have to tell me about those stories over drinks.” she hummed completely ignorant of Arnold’s presence. “I know the history of my name well. Don’t worry. I promise I don’t bite.”

“Drinks, hm? What does the lady like to drink?” From behind Lilith’s head, he could feel the burning stare of his brother’s eyes, but he waved it off. “I’m free right now if you’d like to join me. I know a nice place on 52nd street.”

“Lilith” she said placing her hand into his. “Lilith Grey. You’re the must more attractive brother aren’t you?” Lilith teased glancing back at Arnold with an approving grin.

“Lilith,” he said, tasting it on his tongue. “You must not be Jewish. I don’t know any Jewish parents that would name their little girls Lilith. Not that it isn’t a beautiful name,” he added quickly. “It just... has a history, you know. But my big brother has a thing for women outside of our faith.” He winked at Arnold, completely unaware of the reasons behind his tight-lipped smile.

“Oh no. Please don’t apologize. It was nothing important.” Lilith purred looking the man over. He was much more attractive than his brother and there was something innocent about him- something vacant in Arnold. “Who are you?”

“Edgar,” he said, regaining some of his coolness. “Edgar Rothstein. I’m the baby brother.” He gestured towards Arnold, whose smile was quite forced while he sat white-knuckled in silence. “And you are?” He reached out his hand for her to shake.

“Just be glad it wasn’t worse. I have plans for Carlo. I don’t actually want him dead.” she said sitting down on Arnold’s desk. “Now everything is going according to my plan, but you don’t have to worry yourself in the matter. You’re much too busy.”

“Hey, Arnold -” Edgar’s words came to a halt when he noticed the beautiful woman sitting across from his brother. “Oh... uh, pardon me, ma’am,” he said bashfully, his cheeks strangely red. “I didn’t mean to interrupt your... meeting.”
