Combourg Castle, France 🇫🇷
Château de Combourg is a historic medieval castle located in the town of Combourg in northwestern France. Surrounded by a lake and parkland, it is one of the most iconic castles in the region of Brittany.
The castle was originally built between the 11th and 12th centuries as a defensive fortress and was expanded over the following centuries. Its massive towers and thick stone walls reflect its medieval military purpose.
Combourg Castle is closely associated with François-René de Chateaubriand, one of France’s greatest Romantic authors, who spent part of his childhood there. He later described the castle’s mysterious atmosphere in his memoirs, helping to make it famous throughout France.
Today, Château de Combourg remains a popular tourist attraction, admired for its medieval architecture, beautiful gardens, and literary history.
