I live in a state where blacks make up a third of the population and a fifth of our men are in the correctional system for mostly non-violent crimes. A system that is more than half way represented by blacks. A system that is not hard to find yourself in with the systematic oppression perpetuated by the American civilian populace and police force. My everyday life has become a prison. A prison of vicious stereotypes, harassment, and racial discrimination. A prison in which your entire existence must be validated by a white person and even that doesn't make you an individual--but instead a token. So many black ppl go to work daily having their culture and disparagement ignored. On the way home we await the nod from a white police officer which tells us our presence is justified and that we are exempt from being beat and sent to prison for no reason...that day. CAPTAIN'S LOT VI: The great spirit's words... "ENOUGH EXCUSES! CHOOSE ONEIRONAUT: Dream...or Die." I can hear it's voice echo within my mind as if my emptiness were a canyon--reverberating within my core. I slowly realize that I am here of my own volition--and with it an undead determination breathes life once again. As I pick myself up from the makeshift reality I constructed for myself from excuses and short-term comforts, the hole in my heart shrinks (never completely vanishing). Inside a small being claws at the walls demanding an existence. It uses phrases like, "You will never be enough!" And "You aren't deserving." to pay its board. I allow him to live, for kill him would be to kill myself. However, if I can achieve actualization I will be able to validate his existence as a manager that effectively plotted my course to actualization by using my happiness as an incentive and my misery as a consequence--to dream or die. If I actualize his words hold value as encouragement; if I fail they hold value as truth. My hope is to be able to gain his favor, and then maybe I can believe in myself again. Gaining his validation won't be easy. It comes with only what I can accomplish in this life and give to the world--there are no advances for tasks left incomplete. CAPTAIN'S LOG V: I awoke from a dream within my vessel inside another day. I had such an important dream. Like being trapped inside not being able to wake up. I'm supposed to be doing something but I can't remember. I return to a life of trading my time for bread crumbs and my passion for less. I have convinced myself I cannot do what I truly wish to be, so life has become pain. My body aches. I can feel the bonds that bind my ghost to this vessel weakening. I don't remember my dreams anymore--only the ones which I mutilate myself. This brings me great misery for they were my only joy--my only pleasure--and it would seem I have sold them as well. I ask daily for months, "why was it so important for me to come back to this nightmare? Why am I here?" And after many fortnights of silence, finally a resoonse: "You are an incomplete soul. You won't find the rest of yourself within your dreams but they can show you the way. However, if you don't actively unify your dreams and waking life then your dreams mean nothing. This is what it truly means to dream. If you choose not to dream then end your life now. Save yourself the agony of everyone and thing failing to ever be enough for you--of you never being enough for yourself. Enough excuses, coward! I believe pictures like this can end homophobia in the black male community. Imagine ending the gender role of males not being able to verbally and physically express emotion towards each other besides anger. CAPTAIN'S LOG II LOCATION: The Void YEAR: N/A The void is cold and desolate. Yet it does not stop me from returning. I have entered this place using the interdimensional warp gate within my heart. I use the Prana created by my body's primordial field to envelop and protect my consciousness. It is all that prevents the vacuum of the Void from clawing away at my existence. I join hands with Thoth, and am lead to the Alchemists, Osiris and Anubis--a beings capable of ending the life of a red giant. A gentle push and an entire plane of existence would be enveloped by Darkness. They are my mentor. By studying the life, death, and Rebirth of creative flow I begin to understand the process of transmutation in episodes of enlightenment. I must hurry back to my body with news. I cannot retain large amounts of data fathomable by a human in this form for long. Even on the journey back I will lose insight.
