She sat on the ground a little further away from the rest of the group. Brynja sighed as she played around with a stone on the ground. Time was running out and yet they still did not come closer to solving all three riddles. The more she thought about them, the more confused the young thief got. She was good in hiding, in sneaking, and stealing. But riddles?

“I do not think I will ever come just remotely close to a solution for this. Oh it is so frustrating!”

“A masked ball” the king mused dryly, looking down at his nearly empty glass. He hated celebrations, it’s not that he wasn’t glad that thing’s were okay…he just wished that he wasn’t forced to hold celebrations because of it. He was never good at holding court, but at least there was plenty of alcohol flowing. “How…exciting.” He said again clenching his jaw. “Although the decorations are beautiful, don’t you think?”

“Yes, they are. Not a fan of balls I assume?”

The kingdoms have already been through so much, and I am trying to protect mine. I must keep an eye on those who that pass through, especially thieves. I wouldn ‘t want any trouble.

“Well miss, as much as I am enjoying this ominous conversation, I must be going.”

“Well if I can’t persuade you I’ll be on my way. I’m positive we will meet again again soon.”

“What makes you so sure?”

“I don’t care about your loyalty, I care about your skill set.  You will do this for me and get paid,or you will do this for me and not get paid,your choice.”

“And why would I do this for you? I’m serving the queen of Manon.”

“ I hate to ask so much of you but would you be able me retrieve it? I would be forever in your debt.”

“Rest assured my lady, I will find it.”

“ A great deal of gold has gone missing from Manon. This gold in particular was suppose to rebuild all the homes lost after the attacks and food and it’s vanished. People are going to living on the streets and a food shortage only means one thing..rebellion.”

“Well I’m sure we can find some of the gold. There’s no reason to lose hope.”

“If you ask me it is very easy to decide who to trust and who not to in times like these. Trust no one at first, trust only those that sacrifice themselves for the same cause as you do later.”
