5 years and a good bye
Hello everyone. I know it’s been awhile and, to be honest with you, this post has been a long time coming. It probably is no surprise to you but we have decided to officially discontinue updating Editors Daily just as we hit our 5th birthday.
Five years ago this week, two friends decided to put together a tumblr blog that showcased the love of their favourite band. Both of them had been long time fans of this band, and were really missing the fact that it was seeming to take a long time for this band to put out their next record, so to pass the time with fellow fans, Editors Daily was born.
It took off like a rocket and we updated not just once a day but several times, loving the old photos but hunting down new ones as the band played festivals and debuted new songs. It was an exciting time, a fun time and one where we made friends that we still are friends with to this day.
When Chris left the band, we weren’t sure we’d continue the blog - we were huge fans of his input and a band without him would seem like a three legged dog. Yet, we still held onto hope that the next record would be as good as the first three.
Neither one of us enjoyed what came out of the Weight of Your Love, and the subsequent media promotion of the album made it hard for us to stay motivated but we still loved what this band was to us and so we continued - not necessarily in the vein we had before, but to showcase the band we loved - the original 4 piece Editors.
In the years since and with the release of In Dream, we’ve realised that we have indeed grown out of our love for the band. The first three records still are incredibly near and dear to our hearts and rank in our top albums but the last three years have shown that we just don’t enjoy searching out content for the blog as we used to. And now it’s just at a point where it’s unfair for us to try to post when our hearts simply aren’t in it any longer. It was somewhat of a sign when L’s computer died and all the photos we were set to queue up, mostly old photos, were gone and we just couldn’t be bothered to seek them out again.
There are some incredible blogs out there doing what we used to, but probably way better. There are some fans who are certainly carrying on the flame for the band we loved and we hope they continue to do so. We had an awesome time running this place, and it was really cool getting email from the band’s management at a few points. It’s kind of cool to know that your idols know you exist.
But it’s time to hang it up and move on. We’re not deleting the blog - it’s staying here so you all can go back and look at the content and enjoy it. We’re just no longer actively updating it. We wish Editors the best in the future, and we hope that you all had as good as a time as we did. If you’d like to say hello, feel free to shoot us an email at [email protected].
Much love,
L & R xx
