BURIED TREASURE! After Custer's fateful battle, the steamboat Far West, carrying a fortune in gold, arrived at the mouth of the Little Bighorn River. Captain Grant Marsh decided he couldn't carry all the gold plus fifty-one wounded men and the firewood they'd need for fuel, so he took the gold off the steamboat and buried it. When he returned to retrieve it, rains had caused mudslides and he was never able to locate the buried treasure. Far as we know, it's still out there!

Captain Marsh became famous when he set a record-breaking speed on his trip back to Fort Lincoln with his precious cargo of wounded soldiers.
