Jack loves that autistic man.

Sharing this here for a lore drop: as a kid, I always wanted to work for Dreamworks because I was absolutely OBSESSED with How To Train Your Dragon. I was convinced that I would eventually work for them and told everyone that’s what I was going to do one day.

Well, naturally, I had a step-dad that said it wasn’t realistic and I needed to give up on my dreams because I’d never make it. He never supported my art. Never really supported me other than financially when required since I was his child.

This lead to a lot of self-doubt and me quitting art.

I recently started going to therapy again, and an old painting came into conversation. My first ever HTTYD painting. I talked about how little me was so convinced she would be an artist and how older me lost that spark. So, here I am at 26, nearly 17 years later, being told by my therapist that she wants me to repaint that old, horrid painting 11 year old me did so prove to myself that I am capable.

It’s not going to look the best, but I’m going to try my best. Definitely rusty after all these years, but already with this progress it’s made me cry just seeing how far I came—even with all the time in between.

I will keep updating here, but here’s the rough base colors and also my old painting for reference.

Now let’s hope self-doubt doesn’t take over and I don’t burn the painting to the ground :)

Gobber’s voice somehow never drowned in all the rest of them, singing his heart out with crude lyrics about his axe and mace and ugly wife. Jack didn’t know the lyrics, though he quickly learned the last line of every verse: I’m a Viking through and through.
