Who are we to barter our freedoms?
Our fruitful world has become molecular. And there is no bargain between what is right and what is wrong. There is only the wound. And I can’t keep my head down, and I can’t fight in the street, that which will create more fight, more loss, more detour than direction.
We are witness to civil injustice from the first peek of the sun to the last seeming whisper of the moon and the stars. Which in between, with our use of light, are choosing to fight each other out of existence. There is carnage between children before even meeting. Prejudice in school halls and the blistering fires of loss in the ghettos.
For somewhere in an alley hides a man from his own fellow men, murdering and stealing his rights to love who he pleases, express as he pleases, and walk home safely -without being hospitalized- as he pleases.
Is it fair to discriminate within the pool of mere existence? Within our own skins and tones and languages and foods and love? I search for the cry of life in a night air so thick I could only smell the blood and fear of my people. Brilliant minds led mad, or worse - numb.
I plead to God, to our all-knowing ancestors above for the North Star that will guide us to the other side of this swamp-filled front. For which fight to join, which fight to withhold from, because rare are the times from where blood was born faith. How do we as a people relinquish the ruins and rebuild our civilizations anew hand in hand - all while the praying, all while the loss, all while the television barking “back to you Wolf!”
To continue this way? I will not. I can not. Not forever and not for another year. I will not admit defeat by saying “What are we to expect? This is mankind.” When healing is of the now. And how do I, small body of human, resuscitate the need for involvement within my wake, within the youth - within my immediate bracket. How do we re-sensitize the desensitized nerve endings of the generation - numb. Not through the media but with the hands and faces that are willing and with their last breaths are prepared for their final words to be, “Why?”
How do we preserve this ancient ideal of coexistence and love amongst mankind? How do I as a human inspire importance on the matter?
As I will not live another day of videos of inhumane civil injustices gone viral just to comment in a thread? For who are we even screaming for in a way so violent? I will not live another day of silent barking.
Lord, pave the way and I will walk through the blazes without fear.
