Finally created my first CG edit! I mean and Byler edit … but somehow mainly Mike edit. Because let’s face it, it started with the guy 😭
Funny coincidence that I focused on tapes just as the VHS season edition has just been released!
I really wanted to bring some parallels and theories to life, particularly “Be Kind, Rewind”
Shoutout to @gritstartar @lavenderlatte222 @youaremess I feel like we’re always talking about the damn tapes 😆💀

Another Coded Message from Mike: When Doves Cry by Prince
Doves often represent freedom, love, and peace, but in this song, the doves are crying. Why would Mike choose this song for a time of celebration?
Could he be trying to communicate the opposite of freedom, love, and peace? Is he trying to tell them, and us, that they are trapped? Mike even breaks the fourth wall here.
I posted about this song earlier this year, but at the time I thought the show was just using it to tell us that the characters were trapped.
I had very little faith in Mike at this point, so it didn't even occur to me that he may have chosen this song because he already knew that they were trapped and was using it as a coded message to tell them.
@lavenderlatte222 out here saving lives tonight
It Will Never Stop
Oh god, will it ever stop!?!?
So, I went!
Went in blind-ish with just the broad strokes: Boys in Australia coming of age + murderous entity + the murderous entity assumes the shape of whom you desire the most! Sounded p damned good.
I saw the trailer for this during my last two trips to the Movies, and it wasn’t clear whether the shape-shift was due to possession or illusion? Honestly, I am still not 100 percent clear. It didn’t feel like it wanted me know, or care so much about that part. It was a strangely paced 88 minutes. The sound mixing emphasized the shit out of every time a rock would hit someone in the chest, but I could barely hear the super dry expository monologues by neither the pastor’s daughter or the girl survivor from the next town over. Maybe it was just my ears! My ears and my movie companion’s ears.
I saw it with an old friend turned lover turned friend and in the car afterwards, we went into our respective processing modes: whirring (his) and swirling (mine).
Homeslice: the writing had big problems and this and this and this did not make any sense!
My ass: *makes supression-stone Mike faces, wonders if it’s underwritten/underwhelming by design*
This was a nice callback to the discussion he and I had about S5 of ST earlier in the year!
At any rate, some shit stood out for sure. I tried to grab what visual aids I could from clips on the web. Take these premium locations!

Mike and Lexi: the storytellers
I remember noticing this distinct scene in episode 6 of season 3 of euphoria (see further below), but I IGNORED IT, I thought METAGATE WAS SILLY, I did NOT want to read into, and I did NOT want to believe in metagate, but it's relevant now that we know how the finale ends!!!!
Remember - Mike and Lexie? Our storytellers? Who are both depicted as feeling guilt/regret for not having said 'I love you', in the series finales of their respective shows?
You know our theories that Mike was the storyteller and made up El's death, and felt so much guilt over the fact that he could say I love you back?
Lexie adopts the same fucking role in the series finale of Euphoria. This is a 4th wall break scene from episode 6 of season 3, that I chose to IGNORE on first watch, yet it lingered at the back of my mind!!! It's Lexie describing how she'll write her episode of LA Nights (where she's been hired as screenwriter):
'Why don't you just kill her character?'
'Cause I'm supposed to build her up'
'If someone doesn't die periodically, people get bored'
How are more people not catching on that episode 8 of euphoria might just be Lexie's narrative/screenplay? The same Lexie who staged a fake version of Oklahoma, to cover up the nitty, true play that she decided to put on... Where have I head that before...
This specific line below is FISHY AS HELLLLLLL!!!!! I THINK I'VE HEARD THAT SOMEWHERE!!!
'OK, so, build up to kill her'
'The whole episode is building towards "Eleven is going to kill herself"'
Lexie is literally describing that she's writing a story where the story builds up to the main female protagonist getting killed...
One thing that Sam Levinson cannot do is subtlety, which is why this feels so much more blatant and less hard to believe than conformitygate in and of itself...
Why is no one talking about this? Or are people talking about this? Am I going crazy?
I didn't even intend to watch Euphoria under the guise that it was possibly metagate, because that felt SO SILLY, but that finale????
I got played TWICE this year! TWICE!!!!!
I kept accidentally posting an incomplete comment to this rad post, and honestly it’s way better with pictures! @thebestofmyrmidons, I’m so sorry this took so long. Note: there are some spoilers for Euphoria below; please know this before you proceed.
So -
I was not a Euphoria head, but caught Finn’s SNL appearance and didn’t think about this skit again until APRIL - when one of the resident brains at the CG SubReddit brought THIS PART up while posting the names of the upcoming S3 episodes:
I cleared my throat and started watching that shit from the beginning!
Awww. This was from S1E5!
YES, 🎶SMALLTOWN BOY IN S1E6
Ok ok be cool ok. It is a GREAT song!
Speaking of great songs that remind us of Mike,
Yes. So good!
And AGREED, the WOW is the OKLAHOMA FAKEOUT in S2.
ALSO in Euphoria S2: A special flashback episode, featuring best friends with mad sexual tension. They are lively, they have sex with their girlfriends; when they graduate high school they go out to celebrate by themselves and uhhhhh
bbs got their Snowball!
!!!!!!!
And this is all before the PALADIN episode! Paladin was a bird (may he rest). Huh. BUT THEN!!!!!

(So yeah, I’m pretty pumped that @thebestofmyrmidons has eyes on Euphoria)
FYI - the Whole Love Never Tears Us Apart flashback sequence is of Cal Jacob's, who grows up to be a closeted and miserable person living a seemingly happy life, but ends up cheating on his wife relentlessly behind her back (including with Jules).
Am thrilled to have been flung onto the Euphoria carpet because it dazzles my ass, HARD. And the conclusion is confounding. And it indeed started out as incredibly psychologically meaty… and the ST parallels were wildly intensifying in S2 (see @thebestofmyrmidons note about Cal above + excellent blog posts)!
I was going into Euphoria S3 late to the party, and ST was my car service, and thank goodness because of these handy suggestions in the cupholders:
Pro Tip#1: When barreling towards the conclusion, it is totally fine to spend less time with Jules and more quality time with these druglords and their staff!
The show stars are also movie stars and they get tied up! 🍿 (Sam could tell you!)
Pro Tip#2: Nothing says Finale like a Let’s kill a vajay monster in a popcorn movie-style and then close out in the coziest setting we’ve ever shown you!

If I had too many good detectives hot on my trail
to the extent the surprise party I’d been planning for a decade was at risk of being blown and I had money to burn, 10/10 would pay for someone to help me with the following:
Control the ever loving shit out of the environment where questions will be asked and answered, and prevent footage of my nervous ass getting into the hands of body language experts at all costs
2. Keep all answers vague, irritating, and alienating AF in an earnest attempt to throw off those who know and love me best - and going to dastardly lengths to see to it they are surprised, too

So, You Prefer Coke? What, No, I don't Even Like Girls — Introducing Will (Pepsi)
"Try Before You Deny" Argyle had Pepsi around him in S4 a lot. I'm not sure if it was more popular in CA in the 80s, could've been, however…
I'm sure the Duffers are referencing the "Cola Wars," as they are inspired by the Cold War. Marketing is like propaganda, once you delve into brand psychology and emotional manipulation, and this particular one was a "blood feud."
Plus, the founder of coke, invented cola as an alternative to his morphine addiction, the drug name deriving from Morpheus, the Greek god of sleep. We associate coke with HNL, government experiments testing drugs on children (this happens today, but with energy drinks).
Pepsi was from NC, Duffers' home town, interestingly enough—not saying they should have allegiance, but I tend to route for the home team. Mike does:
He's not even into coke, associated with IT, El, and heteronormativity (They Live is a sequel to The Thing). Even if it is repackaged as Robin, coke is a lie. In this analogy, he accidentally outs himself as queer.
To the Duffers: "Don't fck with me fellas!"
"This ain't my first time at the rodeo…" 👏🏻
Inspired by @tempurabatteries's post
Alas, my home state isn’t rolling out New Coke

This isn't related to conformitygate at all (I think) but...
A new LOTR film is being written by STEPHEN COLBERT and PETER JACKSON?!?!
AND
SAMFRO MAY BE CANONIZED ONSCREEN
“Fourteen years after the passing of Frodo- Sam, Merry and Pippin set out to retrace the first steps of their adventure. Meanwhile, Sam’s daughter, Elanor, has discovered a long-buried secret and is determined to uncover why the War of the Ring was very nearly lost before it even began.”
😄😄😄
its called the shadow of the past
and what is this long buried secret?
😀
In Tolkien's unpublished epilogue for LOTR Elanor asks her dad if he'll ever find his lost treasure, and he says someday
We're in so deep y'all
cuz he eventually does
when he joins Frodo in the Grey Havens--greeting him on his birthday 💕
😀
And what did Peter Jackson's trilogy do? Mess with the timeline. In the books there is a time gap between Bilbo/Frodo's birthday, and the beginning of Frodo's quest. In Jackson's Fellowship, it is a muuch shorter time gap, he cuts Frodo's birthday out, removes the violent Scouring of the Shire (soo... they get comfort and happiness?)
He might do some timey wimey stuff again
And we might
see Frodo and Sam's reunion onscreen
remember what Sean Astin said
