Tomorrow, I go to the Bulgarian capital of Sofia. I will stay there for three nights, and it is purely a business trip.

The #Bauhaus was the most influential #modernist #art #school of the 20th century, one whose approach to teaching, and understanding art’s relationship to society and technology, had a major impact both in #Europe and the #United #States long after it closed. It was shaped by the 19th and early 20th centuries trends such as Arts and Crafts movement, which had sought to level the distinction between fine and applied arts, and to reunite creativity and manufacturing. This is reflected in the romantic medievalism of the school’s early years, in which it pictured itself as a kind of medieval crafts guild. But in the mid 1920s the medievalism gave way to a stress on uniting art and industrial design, and it was this which ultimately proved to be its most original and important achievement. The school is also renowned for its faculty, which included artists Wassily #Kandinsky, Josef #Albers, Laszlo Moholy-#Nagy, Paul #Klee and Johannes #Itten, architects Walter #Gropius and Ludwig #Mies van der #Rohe, and designer Marcel #Breuer.

Finished "Shadowbahn". I liked it, it held some images that is slowly creeping into my mind. But I don't think I will advance other Steven Erickson novels up on my reading list, it is down there, on the list somewhere, held together in groups based on mostly randomness and hot intuition. I still miss the social media outlets Sometimes, small glitches, small twitches in my fingers, well in my mind really. The habits die hard.

What did we do before the internet?

Sometimes, the life before the internet may seem like a faraway place. What did people do during their spare time? Talk together? Watch linear television? Read books?

I have used the internet religiously since 1995 when i first discovered the Mosaic browser. I was 17 years old, and I was hooked. This was Something Else!

I later blogged, vlogged, tweeted, google+’ed, blogged more, tweeted more, and shared pictures and stuff. 

What I realized lately is that the internet has made me more stupid. I have access to all this information, but the stupidity comes from the laziness that this encourages.

I had the sense of something missing this morning. Glimpses of other people's lives from around the world. Then my son came to me and said "Hi dad! Let's play chess together!" And those people online mattered less than nothing in an instant.

Instead of reading your tweets and fb updates where you share pictures of your cat, I now start to read this.
