Slightly Hypocritical, but Since No One Else is Giving Proper Respect

We should not be socially protecting Islamic homophobia. We should not be excusing it because it’s part of their religion. We jump all over Christians and Christianity if they so much as say that they won’t cater a gay wedding. WHY ARE WE EXCUSING THE IDEOLOGY THAT SPAWNED A MASS MURDER? 

You don’t have to hate Muslims. But goddammit, you should hate Islam if you have any respect for the LGBT community.

This is not a time to defend or attack Islam. This is not a time to push gun control. This is not the time to start a fight about either of these things. This is a time to mourn and reflect, so shut the fuck up about your politics. 

I don’t want to see or hear another “NOT ALL MUSLIMS!” or another “THIS IS WHY WE NEED GUN CONTROL!” until the victims of the shooting are either recovered from their injuries or in the ground and their families and friends have had time to mourn. 

The victims of this shooting are not just little examples to use in your political statements. They are people. Just like you and me. And quite frankly, I’d be fucking offended if some random jackass on the internet were using my death to push their message.

Recent Events

I’d like to start off by saying that my kindest thoughts, best wishes, and deepest condolences go out to the friends and family of the victims of the shooting in Orlando. And I wish nothing but a quick and full recovery for all those injured.

For everyone who is going to a pride event like myself in the next few weeks, be safe, be aware, but most importantly have fun. Don’t let fear ruin your good time.

However! It is nothing to be ashamed of if you opt out of attending a Pride event or going to a gay club or bar. Fear is a natural reaction to an occurrence like this, and I would be lying if I said I didn’t re-consider my choice to attend Pridefest this weekend when I heard of the events.

Just remember that I have a class of 15 people, most of which I’ve been in the same class at the same school with since kindergarten, and I’m literally the one person sat between the valedictorian and the salutatorian. To worsen the blow, I graduated with the lowest GPA in the class despite being slotted for valedictorian in every person who knew me’s minds up until my sophomore year. Will update on how much it sucks when I get over the hangover on Monday.
