Well maybe I should write about why I'm on tumblr now

I have been looking at tumblr for a while, actually for fanart fanfics and random stuff, but never with an account, then I made one but I had liked some posts then just kind of left it there but now I want to make stuff do stuff on here and get a sense of comfort and community! Since where I live there is basically nobody with similar interests as me :B

I have a family friend who worked at our local Salvation Army headquarters as a a secretary. This particular office took all the Christmas donations for children in need, put them in a warehouse, and on a designated day the staff and their friends picked through them all, taking whatever they wanted. She saw people hauling away bikes donated for specific families. Some local children had hundreds of dollars of gifts donated in their name, and on Christmas they received three cheap things, items likely not even from the person who sponsored them.

My friend quit, and I’ve not given them a dime of my money since then.

Do not give to the Salvation Army.

I’m a wildfire and disaster logistics specialist.

I deal with a lot of agencies who provide disaster relief.

I used to say the Salvation Army’s disaster services were the one (literally the ONE) good thing they did.

They would come in, set up a canteen trailer, make and pass out hot coffee and donated food in a disaster, usually being one of the first agencies to get there and the last to leave.

Then I found out.

Every time they did this, regardless of if they were actually invited or deployed by the agency in charge (usually FEMA, sometimes others) they would SELF-DEPLOY. Meanjng they would just show up. Ok. That’s not TOO bad, sometimes agencies have to take initiative and get there before the red tape is sorted out. BUT. They, after they left at the end of the incident, they would send FEMA or the host agency a BILL. They used one or two paid employees (usually the driver of the truck and a supervisor); and many VOLUNTEERS, but they would bill for EVERYONE’s Labor at standard federal rates. They would bill for the food they distributed even though it was all donated by another agency or private parties. They would bill for the coffee they made and the supplies. Except they would use electricity from the shelter location, water from donations or from the shelter, and in many cases, they would get the coffee and industrial filters DONATED, but bill for them at retail prices.

Don’t FUCKING give to the Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army is also ass to the workers. A good number of people join it, naively thinking that it’s doing good, and end up leaving cynical and beaten down. The management is hostile, if not outright abusive, and demand some ridiculous hours of it lower to mid-level staff. Don’t support these people.

Salvation Army reached out to Milknmuffins and asked what shelter she’s at with the promise to address the abuse in it. She…ended up saying where she was. She was thrown out onto the street. It’s also all on Twitter.

They invited her to a personal talk so she could explain the situation in person.

Okay assorted headcanons about the Default Minecraft Skins (+Herobrine) now that I'm well rested and headache free let's gooo

-Steve (he/him) and Alex (she/her), being the first and the second first people to arrive to the world, are besties. Any time Steve goes mining he asks Alex to come with him so she can watch his back and make sure nothing sneaks up on him while he's on the hunt for diamonds.

-I thought Alex and Ari (she/they) looked really similar so they're sisters now. Ari is a little younger than Alex and far more calm and sweet, content to stay home and welcome anyone over for cookies and milk instead.

-Efe (ze/zir) is a wealthy executive of a potion making company, hence why ze seems to have a more fanciful appearance with gold jewelry and such. Ze is also a little self-absorbed but not really intentionally malicious.

-I made Sunny (he/him) huge because I just know if I didn't then I'd hate him on account of his haircut alone. He needed something positive to balance out having a bowl cut. Oh yeah and he's kind of the village protector due to have big and strong he is. He's a very no-nonsense type.

-Makena (she/her) is a librarian, because the yellow sweater just reminds me of librarians. She's sweet like Ari but can actually appreciate Alex's idea of "fun" too.

-Speaking of Makena and Alex, they're girlfriends.

-Kai (he/they) is the guardian of a nearby Nether Portal. Both so they can fight back any mobs that attempt to escape, but also to keep anyone that's disqualified from going to the Nether out.

-Being disqualified from going to the nether essentially means that the village leaders just don't think you're prepared to brave literal hell. In order to become qualified you have to get the strongest possible armor, weapons, and potions that are available in the overworld. This rule is basically just to prevent the amount of Nether-related incidents.

-(That being said, it's still 100% possible to make your own Nether portal elsewhere. It's still illegal and probably not a great idea but it's not like they can stop you.)

-So I've decided that I'm sticking with the idea that Herobrine (he/him) is a shapeshifter. His true form is incomprehensible to most mortals so he usually goes around taking on a slightly altered appearance of the first person he's ever seen- which happens to be Steve. They do at least have enough differences from each other (y'know, aside from the eyes) to still be distinguishable though.

-Herobrine comes off as cold and standoffish at first but he's actually a bit of a hopeless romantic, literally falling in love with a new mortal every few years and having kids with them. His mother ribs on him for this.

-You still shouldn't get on his bad side though. He's still Herobrine, even if he may not attack first anymore.

-IS White Eyes' (she/her) son. White Eyes is far more hands-off when it comes to mortals though, and is far more content with watching them from a distance. She's not seeking to harm anyone, just finds mortals interesting to watch.

-As of right now my notes states that Zuri (they/them) is a Library Assistant (probably Makena's assistant) who wishes their life was more interesting while Noor (he/she) is a traveler who's curious to a fault. I'm not sure if either of these are going to stay for now though, because I'm not sure what to do with th-

-Wait what if Zuri sometimes takes breaks from their job to travel with Noor, in the hopes of getting more interesting life experiences under their belt. Maybe that. Maybe they're friends. Yeah, sure.

Headcanons for each minecraft skin:

Steve: grew up pretty lonely, so they always seeks company. Always has leashes and nametags with them to adopt mobs they find. Drops everything to hang out with their friends.

Herobrine (I know they're not technically a default skin but they're on the list deal with it): prankster, loves to scare the others, but cares a lot about them. Also forgetfull. Sometimes they make traps and forget about it. The most common punishment Alex gives Herobrine whenever their pranks go too far is "go help Noor with whatever they're doing and don't stop until you're done"

Alex: very energetic. Loves parkour and pvping. They're also very responsible, and usually the one people go to when they need help or an authority figure.

Makena: redstoner. Thinks "can I do this" much more than "should I do this". Their inventions oftem keep them busy for weeks, and sometimes they need to be dragged out of their lab to sleep, but when they work they are briliant.

Kai: farmer. Works a lot with Makena to make good farms. Not much of an adventurer, but very hardworking. Whatever you need, they'll find a way to mass produce it.

Ari: explorer. Loves to go through untouched lands and collects many souvenirs of their trips. Always brings with them maps and banners to mark places they've been to.

Efe: collector. Seeks out all kinds of rare items and is not afraid of fighting for them. They're rarely afraid in general. Their boldness makes them Alex's favorite person to spar with.

Zuri: best builder of the bunch. Has a lot of attention to detail and has a wide rage of building styles. Like Makena, they also tend to hyperfocus on their projects, but they constantly ask for feedback to get outside perspectives.

Noor: grinder. Chill. Everything that Makena and Kai can't automate, Noor can get. They go along with whatever is asked of them. Often has Steve's company during mining sessions.

Sunny: very bright and funny, though tends to be really unlucky. Usually the one to fall on Herobrine's traps. Not allowed near tnt or redstone contraptions, but always welcome to parties. They are usually the ones to organize the parties anyway
