Again, she missed the joke, and instead remained sniffling but no longer sobbing apologies. Vanessa was oblivious to his attempts to try and bring an arm up around her, but she did notice when his body went stiff. At the sensation, her eyes snapped open. It wasn’t until after he spoke did she pull away, her eyes wide and brows furrowed. The falter in his tone was obvious and she was still close enough to feel the rapid pace of his heart. When her eyes dropped they went to his arms, limp at his side. Paralysis.
"It’s alright." Vanessa reassured, bringing a shaking smile to her lips. Internally, she thought a breathy ‘oh no’. None the less, she kept a small smile on her lips while saying "Here, lay back. You’re okay." And as she spoke, Vanessa eased him backward, quickly grabbing a towel to place under his head. Maybe the poison hadn’t left his body soon enough, she didn’t exactly know, but what she did know was that he seemed scared. Vanessa didn’t want him to be afraid.. "It’ll go away" Again she pulled a smile, offering a little nod as she moved to kneel by his side on the bathroom floor. There was no way of knowing whether or not that was true, not yet at least.
It wasn’t alright, it was so not alright, Ryder was starting to feel the tingling starting from his feet and up his legs and it was not alright. He blinked quickly a few times to hold back frustrated tears as Vanessa was lying him down “I’m not okay, I’m paralyzed” He growled up at her, a harsh look in his eyes. Ryder was livid and sweaty and now immobile and yet had the guts to snarl at the girl who hadn’t left him just die there alone, probably the only person in the world that that in that moment cared even just a bit about him; cared, on second thought she probably was just feeling guilty, this had all been his idea but Vanessa was too nice for her own good, and probably thought this mess was her fault or something along those lines. Ryder coughed faintly, tasting blood in his mouth none the less and looked into the girl’s wide eyes, noticing how agitated they were, matching her unsure tone when she spoke and smiled “I doubt it, it’s reached the legs”.
Considering Vanessa had no sense of humor, and was a bit too shell shocked to pick up on little things like Ryder’s joke, she only shook her head and drew her brows together slightly “No, I’m alright.” Truth be told, however, she was slightly pale. It wasn’t so much that she was disgusted as it was shocked. He seemed to have thrown up for minutes on end, and she could only imagine the pain he was in.. because of her. Throughout the time Vanessa had rubbed his back slightly, saying small bits of encouragement but they were all subconscious. For the most part, Vanessa had been lost in thought, lost in a swarm of guilt.
It seemed as if he were done throwing up then, and for a moment Vanessa simply let her eyes flick over the tear-streaked mess of his face and let her ears recognize the brokenness of his voice. As she stared at him, tears welled in her own eyes and then suddenly she threw herself at him, despite it probably not being the best idea, wrapping her arms around his neck. “I’m so sorry” The sob was small and muffled by his sweaty neck. “I’m so sorry… this is all my fault.”
Ryder saw the confusion on the girl’s face and was tempted to laugh but he was too tired for that. He was catching his breath and trying to decide if his surroundings had indeed stopped spinning when he noticed she was looking at him with a face less disgusted than he’d have expected. Suddenly he was hit with her small weight and her arms around him, Ryder could feel her tears on his skin “Don’t be, darling” He croaked out “I’m the only dick here, quite literally” Despite the fatigue he raised an arm to put it around her, or he would have, if it hadn’t stopped midair to drop back at his side, he frowned and tried again, but the arm didn’t move, he went stiff, the other arm was in the same condition “Vanessa? We could have a problem” Ryder tried his hard to sound as calm as possible but his voice faltered on the last syllable, his heart was racing.
Vanessa stared at Ryder slightly dumb founded. What else would she be doing? It wasn’t the ‘little girl’ part that got her. In fact, she didn’t notice it at all. She couldn’t figure out why he would ask such a question. None the less, Vanessa barely dwelled on it for more than a second.
Instead, she took the time to realize how out of breath she actually was. The effort of half carrying Ryder to the bathroom and on top of it the shock of it all was putting her somewhere between panting and hyperventilating. None the less, Vanessa focused her attention on Ryder, eyes never straying and never becoming less round. Like they’d taught her in nursing school, Vanessa attempted to be encouraging by saying “Good, just like that.” but it was too shaky to have much support in it and the smile she offered was scared and wavering due to her increased breathing rate.
Ryder coughed again and again before finally puking, the foul smell hit his nose almost instantly, he hoped Vanessa had left the room but she was there, staring at him and looked suddenly almost as tired as she was scared. Ryder’s throat was practically burning, his eyes were puffy and watery while he repeated the motion and threw up some more, his whole torso was sore but the coughing was slightly weakening. He went for it once again empting himself of everything, Vanessa had probably said something but went completely over his head. Ryder swept a hand over his mouth and looked up at her once again his face was a tear stained mess “you can join me of you need to, I’ll move aside” His voice croaky and broken.
Balloons? No, we’re not throwing a five year old’s birthday party. I mean more like loud music and drinking.
Yeah? Not sure we have the supplies in here.
Andrew’s eyes widened slightly when Ryder caught his wrist, but he quick to collect himself in a sneer “No, of course not. -” Andrew was cut off as the shock was sent through his body, knees shaking slightly but not giving out. After a second of biting the inside of his cheek, Andrew finished ”Even off my pedestal I’m higher than you.” Betting that his eye contact was distraction enough, Andrew took the opportunity to strike out with his free hand into the stomach of Ryder.
Ryder was half listening to Andrew’s words and half considering the idea of electrocute him right where he stood, the smartass was getting on his nerves, he was so deep into thinking and staring into the other boy blue eyes that he noticed too late the blow directed to his stomach. Ryder let go of Andrew’s wrist and stumbled backwards rubbing his hands over his sore abdomen, he felt the elecricity flowing through his body “Oh honey you shouldn’t have done that” and coiling in his hands. A crooked smile was all the warning he gave before sending a bolt of lightning in Andrew’s direction.
We should have a party or something. There’s no reason why we can’t have a little fun while we’re stuck in here.
A party with balloons and shit? Sounds fantastic.
Again it was seeing the scattered droplets of blood before them that kept Vanessa from leaving at Ryder’s harsh words. She had to see this through, hold her ground for once. If she had just done that before, Vanessa knew that this situation wouldn’t be happening. If she had just been stronger, she could have kept Ryder from the pain he was in currently.
These thoughts brought the words “I’m not leaving.” from her lips in a solid, stern tone. She wasn’t going to let him die because she had screwed up. She was always screwing up… Vanessa knew even if she were to try and leave then there’d be no way to get his weight off her, which aided the strength in her tone.
As they broke the bathroom, Vanessa carried as much of Ryder’s weight as she could manage towards the toilet before kneeling down to the side of it against the wall, allowing Ryder full access to the toilet. She tried to ease him down carefully, but he was much larger than her and so the let down was a bit unsupported on her half.
"Stick your finger down your throat." Now there was the underlying shake in her down, and thought it was still worried and focused, it was afraid. Her eyes and facial features reflected the same but none the less her hand came up to rest on Ryder’s back subconsciously in support.
Ryder was mentally punching himself for letting this happen, for letting her help him. Vanessa was carrying him toward the toilet, the girl was stronger than he expected, both physically and in will, he was surprised and felt like shit at the same time, mostly because he looked like some nerd after a beating. He was sweating and felt cold and hoped Vanessa was too shocked to be grossed out. Ryder felt stupid for caring for appearances so much when he was this close to probable death. When she lowered him on the toilet Ryder fell to his knees with a thump. “Are you really teaching me how to make myself throw up, little girl?” He scoffed her with half a laugh, the sentence broken by coughs. Ryder then straightened his back the best he could and lowered his face toward the toilet, sitting on his heels, and shoved two fingers in his mouth and down his throat, trying to find his gag reflex, that got lost a bit during the years.
You don’t look too good. Are you alright?
Yes, totally, this is just my 'I'm forced under a dome with pathetic people' face.
Vanessa wanted to believe that was actually good and that this had nothing to do with the make-shift drugs she had given him. Of course, she didn’t. When his hand pulled away from his mouth, her eyes followed it, rounding at the blood. This was happening too fast. Vanessa didn’t know exactly how long it would take, if the drugs were going to kill him, but it wouldn’t be long.
Her mind was racing threw options, the possibility of maybe forcing him to throw up or attempting to create an anti-venom. Both were a risk, but the anti-venom was more so. She couldn’t stand the thought of making things worse than she already had. Glancing over her shoulder, Vanessa judged the distance to the bathroom and was about to attempt helping Ryder up when he snapped at her.
It physically hurt, to hear the harshness in his tone. It was already her fault this was happening, but the fact that she now felt like he blamed her too made it worse. More likely than not, he wasn’t actually angry with her, but it still felt that way. Vanessa recoiled momentarily, drawing her hands from his shoulders and leaning away, more fear than worry filling her eyes. She almost did leave.
When Vanessa dropped her eyes, they landed on his hand. The blood there reminded her that this wasn’t about her. Ryder was the one in trouble, and she had to at least try and fix it. “I’m not leaving.” Her eyes lifted, still watery but no longer shedding tears. Though her voice was quiet, it was steady. Pushing herself up, Vanessa reached down and began attempting to help the shaking man to his feet in order to guide him to the bathroom “Please, get up. You need to throw it up right now.”
Of course she didn’t know how, be damned him and his lack of patience, he should have asked for an antidote before taking homemade poison drugs. The thought of his stupidity made him want to smack himself. Vanessa was now trying to move his weight from the door upon herself, the room was still spinning out of the corner of his eye, he was afraid to crush her in the eventuality of a fall. Ryder took a step toward the bathroom, careful not to slip or vomit right where he stood. She didn’t have to see him like this, she didn’t have to stay, he coughed up more blood, tiny drops scattering on the floor “I don’t need you” He said, talking felt like swallowing sandpaper but he continued anyway “I don’t need your help to puke” His action in contradiction with his words for he was still leaning heavily on Vanessa.

When Vanessa’s hand left his shoulders he wanted to sigh with relief. He was going to throw up and be a weak sobbing mess for the rest of the day, until the poison eventually wore off, or he died, both were fine for him, or so he forced himself to think even with tears stinging his eyes and chills running down his spine; and he was going to do this alone, like he always did, alone was safe and didn’t require explanations. Ryder started crawling toward the bathroom very slowly, hoping Vanessa would just leave, when she said she refused to do so he felt a heavy weight settle on his stomach. No, please. She tried to pull him up:”Just go away Vanessa” Ryder said, his voice already raspy from the coughing “Either make an antidote or go” It took him a lot to get up, but he eventually managed a standing position, leaning heavily on the door he took a deep breath.
I’m pretty sure that this is the first time I’ve been sober in at least three months.
You must've had a happy three months.
Vanessa offered a small laugh at what he said, even going so much as to say “I don’t doubt it - Not that I think you’re pretty now.. Not that I think you’re ugly either I-” Oh dear, what was she saying. Vanessa tried desperately to find a way to be nice without seeming like she was trying to flatter him, which was odd. Didn’t she usually try to flatter everyone?
She cut off when Ryder broke into a hard cough. Brows furrowing, Vanessa, who had already stood up, began to move across the room towards the door more quickly, already headed in that direction at the instructions to leave. “Ryder..?” Though her voice was tentative it was also extremely concerned. She had thought it had worked, that everything was all right, and so Vanessa’s thoughts did not automatically go to the idea that the drugs had in fact poisoned him.
Vanessa had only made it half way across the room when Ryder dropped to his knees, and the second he did she froze. A deer in the headlights. Her thoughts swarmed. What had she done, this was all her fault. He was going to die and she had killed him. For a moment she didn’t see Ryder bent over on the floor but Ryder dead on the floor. He wasn’t a person in trouble, he was her mistake.
Seconds ticked away before the sound of his violent coughing broke through to her again. There had to be something she could do. Vanessa again began to move forward across the floor, running now until she too dropped to her knees. “Ryder!” Her voice was desperate and much louder than her usual mousy, gentle tone. “Ryder, I’m so sorry.” This time a sob broke her tone and Vanessa became aware of the wetness running down her face. Her hands came up to grab at his shoulders, both to steady his coughing frame and herself. Again, Vanessa choked out a sob “Tell me what I can do. Tell me how to fix this.”
Shit! He should have known best than to poison himself, he was coughing so hard it caused him to gag, he was shaking violently when Vanessa’s small hands touched his shoulders. Right, she was still there, he raised his head, looking at her, she was crying and calling his name “I’m good” He managed to say, then he was shook by a particularly strong cough, when his hand left his face he saw blood, his vision was blurred and his lungs were on fire. He needed to get the poison out of his system but not with Vanessa here and looking at him:”You can’t, go away” Ryder sounded harsher than he expected to.
Andrew could hear the the slight crackle of sparks that ran through Ryder, but despite it he struck out with one of his coiled fists, aiming for the throat. Now usually, Andrew was a man of words over action, and most definitely words over violence. Still, it was something about Ryder that drove him too far over the edge. Andrew wasn’t going to give him anymore tools to play with, anything else to use against him. In mid swing, Andrew opted for his usual sarcastic lash rather than anything holding true emotion “I thought you’d be flattered to be just like me.”
Ryder didn't move seeing the fist approaching him, he collected enough energy and when the punch delivered, he grabbed Andrew's wrist holding thight. He sneered at the sacastic reply and ran his other hand through his hair, feeling it rise lightly in every direction due to static electricity "Me? Like you?" He said and sent a mild shock through the other boy, just enough to be unpleasant.

"Uh..yes. Sorry." Vanessa turned her gaze down as she answered, opting for watching his hands move for the pills in the bag. Her stomach was churning aggressively and in that moment she was very thankful the dome supplied deodorant, as she had begun to sweat nervously slightly beneath her clothing.
When her eyes lifted they studied Ryder’s face, watching him examine the pills. She assumed it must have been pretty rough in his head for him to take such a risk just to escape for a while. Truthfully, Vanessa felt bad for him, and even though this was extremely dangerous, she was glad she could help in some way. Part of her wanted to ask him about it.
Vanessa had been about to say something along the lines of “You don’t have to do this.” but just then Ryder popped the pills into his mouth and she was left with parted lips and a quelled expression on her face. Guilt consumed her within the second so heavy it ceased the shaking in her hands. When he offered up the remaining pills, Vanessa jumped the gun and assumed that everything was fine and that the pills hadn’t been dangerous after all. A smile came to her lips because of it, but she shook her head none the less and said “No thank you. I couldn’t. I hope you enjoy them though”
Ryder stared blankly at the wall in front of him without answering, he wasn’t feeling much so he got up and opened the door “It’s probably better for you to leave then, I’m not this pretty when I’m tripping” He smiled faintly, he started to see the room spinning a little and held the door knob more firmly trying not to give away anything, whatever Vanessa gave him was starting to kick in. He took a deep breath, or tried to, because it was promptly interrupted by a hard cough he covered his mouth with his hand. The second later he was dropped on his knees, bent over and coughing his lungs out.
He hated to admit it, but if he didn’t it would make Ryder think he was correct, and he hated that more “Just like everyone else I had to get a handle on my power..” Andrew’s voice trailed off as he attempted to get a grip on his anger. He was so not used to feeling it that it felt out of place and very out of control. The fists remained tightened at his side, his jaw clenching and unclenching.
"Coming down your pedestal that easily?" He clapped his hands once "Admitting that you are indeed like everyone?" He took a step closer to the man, feeling electricity running across his body, he was getting too excited and now was just a couple feet from Andrew "Too bad mommy is not going to come save your pride, little nerd is all alone in this"
