location: nevada police station
time: night after the fire opened to: all who need to be interrogated, come at me
The chaos that had erupted after the horrific, tragic fire that left Lincoln now deputy-less - it was unspeakable. People were hurrying in and out, in and out of of his office and it annoyed Lincoln to no fucking end. Sure, it was truly tragic that his young deputy was found the way he was found, in a blaze of horror and torture, but regardless, what Lincoln hated the most was doing actual sheriff work. If he could, he would take a half day and head over to Rousseau’s, but unfortunately, that was just a pipe dream, as the entire Nevada Police station was buzzing with people, cops and suspects alike waiting to interrogate and be interrogated.
“All right then - it’s hour fuckin’ forty-two of this shitshow and I’ve already missed my lunch and now my fuckin’ dinner, so you better go on and tell me what the fuck I want to hear.” Lincoln sat down, across from his suspect, eyeing them up and down. “You tell me - where were you last night?”
Oh, Elena Czarnik was fuming. Of course, no one could tell that on the surface. With such an official questioning, she knew that she was being recorded and every move, every word, every breath was being analyzed as well. The death had started off as barely a minor inconvenience to Elena, but now it had blown into a full on disaster. She had never been questioned by the police before and this was not a position she wished to be in again. Elena’s job as an escort was illegal. Sure, her license was above board, as was the surface of the agency she worked for. But of course, behind closed doors she took part in prostitution. And now one of her clients ended up dead and she was being questioned for her link to him. Of course, there was the second job she held where the literal job description was to kill others and not get caught. Neither of these employments were good to have when one was stuck in a police station.
Elena sat at the table, her legs crossed demurely as she continued to keep up the act of an innocent and completely above board escort who found out a client of hers was dead. Lincoln being the one to question her was both a blessing and a problem. They could not let the man in the room know they knew each other. If that came to light, more questions would be directed at her and her job. Though, Lincoln was not the only person in a position of power who was a client of hers. Internally, she fumed as he cursed at her like she was no more than a low bred criminal. “There is no need to curse at me.” She spoke, her voice a mix of offended and hurt. Innocent escort. That was what she had to be. “I’ve told you all that I know. I’ve showed you my license. You’ve spoken to my agency. Yes, I escorted for him before, but I had not seen him that night. He hired me two nights before and you have seen the receipts with my agency.” She defended herself, both acting innocent and having just the right tone of knowing someone who died as if it were not a common occurrence. “Maybe if he had been with me that night he wouldn’t have crossed paths with whoever did this to him. Maybe he’d still be alive.” Regret filled her voice, the guilt of the innocent that haunted them. Or so she expertly played.

“No, I didn’t go.” Shrug lifted her shoulders just as easily as she’d assumed Elena fit the puzzle pieces together. If people weren’t trying to kill each other so much, sure, Lux would still be hesitant about taking drinks from strangers. “I had a few close friends of mine attend, though. They weren’t as lucky as you, I’m afraid.” All alive, though, with some thanks to her. Not that Lux was a big fan of doing research when it came to having eventful nights out, but she figured for a party with so many people, she wouldn’t have had to. At least she didn’t stick out like a sore thumb to any normal passerby. “I guess I haven’t. This isn’t exactly my normal crowd.” If she wasn’t blacking out by then, it wasn’t exactly a typical night for her. “Well, they’re not getting any donations if half the crowd’s asleep, now are they?”

For such a precisely planned attack of poisoning, very few had died from the attack. As a killer herself, Elena knew the signs well. This had not been about killing, this had been entirely to send a message. But to who? Most that she had spoken to in order to get information from revealed that they didn’t know who did it. Then the message was for someone very specific. It was indeed a message, and if most didn’t know who it was from or what the real threat was, then they truly did a good job of sending a clear message to only certain parties. All this information was kept secret though, Elena was slowly amassing it and wanted to cover her bases. She thankfully had not been poisoned, but the fact was she could have. And Elena Czarnik was not someone who enjoyed the close call. She was better than that. “Many were not as lucky as me.” Elena said breezily and sipped her champagne. Still, it was insulting how close she had been. “I can tell. You may have dressed the part but you do betray yourself for someone who hasn’t been here before.” There was no insult in her voice, only observation. Elena didn’t know the pretty blonde, and she was trying to sus out if she was with a competing agency or not. “You really are not in your usual crowd if you think they are asleep.” Like Elena, most who were attending had been at similar events before. There was always more energizing activities behind closed doors, but no one was asleep now.

“I don’t really take drinks from anyone anymore.” It was no secret that certain people couldn’t be trusted. It was, however, a secret to be affiliated with The Foxes. Her excuse, if asked, was right there –– she was a woman that was alone at an event she wasn’t originally invited to. Lux liked to crash parties and who could really blame her? It was a bit of excitement in her otherwise dull day-to-day lifestyle. “I will take someone who goes and requests something other than this god-awful music that sounds like it should be played at a funeral instead of a party, though.” Formal gathering or not, the blonde’s request didn’t seem too outlandish… to her.
Sipping her own glass of champagne, Elena could only raise her brows in response. She certainly had a good idea of where her apprehension came from. “Did you enjoy that notorious Halloween party this year at that dive bar?” Leaving her table, Elena slinked towards the younger girl with a smirk. “I was there, but was lucky to avoid whatever was spiked.” Perhaps from drinking her own bottle of expensive liquor the entire night. Though, she certainly was doing it again and the assassin would not be fooled or caught off guard again. Lesson learned. Her laugh was practiced from many years of mixing in this crowd. “You haven’t been to many charity events have you? The more money they wish to ask for, the more classical the music becomes.”

Nadia James did love a good party, and what was a better party than New Years Eve in Las Vegas? It was one of her favorite times of year - the lights, the bustling, the hustle of people trying to find out how to get drunk six ways to Sunday. Nadia herself enjoyed a good drink and having fun at a little place like House of Dion was just one of her little traditions. She could get all dolled up, properly, for a speakeasy and have her own kind of fun by the end of the night. Going through a busy casino and bar area, she had swiped a champagne bottle, a rather large one, and with a smirk, she noticed someone looking over at her as she tried to open it down the bar. It was bustling with people - no one had even blinked or noticed.
“Would you like to lend a hand, darling? I’m sure I could share a swig or two if you can even open it. We can toast to the brand new year - that’s what is proper, right?” A ruby red smirk looked the person up and down. “By the looks of you, love, you need it.”
Elena Czarnik may have started off with nothing in life, but now she had everything at her fingertips. She had the freedom to decide if she wanted to stay in Las Vegas to ring in the New Year or if she wanted to fly to another glamorous city like L.A. or New York or any other. At the end, she had decided to stay and to attend House of Dion’s decadent and excessive party. The poor little girl of her past was truly dead as she sashayed into the club dripping in diamonds and in a custom made vintage flapper inspired dress. The glitz and glam of the 1920′s was the perfect way to ring in the 2020′s. Already she had enjoyed a drink, but now was back for more.
Though many others in the crowd might have not noticed a thing, she noticed right away when the other woman swiped the bottle. “Allow me.” Elena purred and took the bottle out of her hands. Observing the label with an approving nod, ever the snob she decided it was good enough for her. Skillfully, Elena popped it and the surrounding people cheered in a blind excitement of following the loud pop. “Glasses?”

Hyacinth looked up from behind the counter of the antique shop, the small rustle of papers the only disturbance before the chime of the front door. The red threads that held small gold fragments sang out with the motion, a warning more to those who can in than those who were inside. Customers were ignorant to it. All of Nevada was. The White Snake society was the best keep secret in a place where people did the things they were least proud of with the intention of never hearing about it again.
“Ms. Czarnik,” She greeted. “How can I help you today? We just received a new Louis XVI living room set that hadn’t even been opened from the 1944. Ever since you were so willing to give up that love seat, I thought you might be interested in a replacement.”
After being in Nevada for so many years, Elena came to know a lot of the dirty secrets that plagued the city. She herself was one of the well kept dirty little secrets after all. She was the curse of death lurking in the shadows who was never tracked down. This aspect of her life caused her to come in contact with Hyacinth and the very unique antique shop. Sometimes her jobs got a little messy, and when they were wished to keep secret or unknown those who specialized in making the evidence disappear soon were introduced to her. Hyacinth’s business had taken some stained pieces off her hands before to help keep things very tidy.
“Hello Hyacinth.” Elena’s red lips curled up so gracefully. She was the image of confidence and perfection, so far from who she was as a child. “You do know how I feel about rare pieces. I’d love to see it.” She smirked and approached the counter in a very cat-like manner.

Lincoln was a favorite client of hers. He had employed her for quite some time now and Elena had come to appreciate the many perks he came with. Being corrupt meant that his wallet was much deeper than others he worked with. While he also didn’t easily spill his secrets on the force, she did appreciate that she had a venue to truly apply pressure to if she ever needed information. Elena’s job as an escort was entirely above board, but it was her extra job that would not be good if the wrong person found out about it. “It may not be the most eloquent of statements, but you are correct. Someone put something in something.” The million dollar question was who and put into what? Leyla was suspected drink as that was the easiest way to deliver the poison to the mass inside. However, some were not effected so it had to be something that only some of the population would have ingested. Very sloppy if this was meant to kill anyone. Kneeling down, Elena pushed some of Lincoln’s hair back away from his face and the corners of her newly painted lips turned up. “You may be gorgeous, but you’ve looked better, baby.” Mentally she went over another checklist, evaluating every part of her body. So far, she seemed fine. “Darling, I’m always perfect.” Elena grinned, though there was some truth to her boast. “What did you drink?” She had only consumed the expensive bottle of champagne she had ordered and opened herself. Perhaps that was untouched.
Lincoln did feel a bit soothed when Elena pushed back his hair, to sooth and help him. God, why was the entire room spinning? It wouldn’t stop spinning, but goddamn it, he needed to get it together. He would destroy the person who was responsible for this. Hands a bit shaky, he wiped at his mouth, looking up at Elena with a look of pure anger and sternness caught in his features. “Ay, I don’t need your fuckin’ words right now, Lena. Right I fucking need right now is a goddamn name and address of who did this shit.” Unsteady on his feet, Lincoln used one of the bar stools to help him up, his head feeling still a bit whoozy. “Vodka and some whiskey before. It’s got to be somethin’ in there. Goddamn. Did you see anything? Don’t answer that - we will track this shit down.” He shook his head, going into his phone to call together his men and women of Nevada PD. “You can fuckin’ bet it on, angel. I’m callin’ my people. You take care of yourself, Elena.”

Of course. The brunette beauty that was Elena Czarnik could only make vomiting seem so utterly effortless, meanwhile Lincoln, who prided himself on being a man strong and in tip top shape, was in pain from the stomach cramps. He held his side, as he threw up more and rolled his eyes at her question, even more so when he saw her effortlessly apply lipstick to her lips. “Lookin’ about as good as I look - which, I know is gorgeous, but consider these fuckin’ assholes put somethin’ in somethin’ - not too hot.” He rolled his eyes, standing up right in a position. He had been in law enforcement long enough to have a paranoid mind and regardless, Lincoln was paranoid anyhow. He looked over at her, biting down on his lip with a sigh. “What about you? You feelin’ okay?”

With a blindside like this, the list of suspects was long and ever growing, the staff, enemies of the Brothers, hell, a random act of violence, but Sully hadn’t even considered Elena until he saw her face in the crowd. Of course, that was an oversight on his part. He knew what the assassin was capable of for the right price. What would normally be a pleasant sight for him, the anticipation of flirty banter, now only has rage rising in his gut as he makes his way towards her, finger already pointing accusations her way. “I swear to God, Lena, if you had something to do with this…”
&
Now this certainly was a twist Elena had not seen coming. While she hadn’t quite narrowed down what the exact poison was, the signs were clear that many had in fact been poisoned. Making her way through the crowd, Elena moved just as sleek as a cat while taking note of who was effected and who wasn’t. While this wasn’t her handy-work, Elena could certainly admire it. It must have come through in the drinks, perhaps? Everyone was drinking differently though so you would only be able to affect some of the crowd. As Elena was trying to sort it all out as a familiar finger jabbed in her face. “Sully, my darling.” Elena cooed and grinned at one of her favorite Brothers. He was usually so easy to tease and to work up into a fluster. “What would you do, Sully? You swear what?” Stepping closer she brought his finger to her lip to kiss gently. Oh yes, this would certainly take him off his game. “What if I have been a bad girl?”
