Becoming motherless so close to Mother’s Day kinda hurts.
Hi,
This is me, the daughter that was so burnt out for taking care of her mother at the hospital that wished she’d die so she could have her life back.
And guess what? Her mother died — so suddenly that she couldn’t even say goodbye. She got her life back.
And now she wishes she could go back in time and ask for her mother’s recovery instead.
(Truth is her mother had a long and complicated illness, and the doctors wouldn’t be honest with them — they never said she could die; they only said it’s would take months to recover)
(She was just tired and felt to helpless because she couldn’t do anything to help her mom — just wait and wait, and she wasn’t a patient person).
(She got so tired that she felt her mom became a burden, and even though she loved her mom a lot, she wouldn’t say it often because she was afraid that if she told her again, she would start crying and wouldn’t be able to stop).
(She was so overwhelmed by the situation that she started wishing for her mother’s death, so her pain and suffering would end, and also, she and her dad could finally rest and take care of themselves).
(The night her mother died, she was so angry for having to be at the hospital that she wasn’t kind to her mom. She didn’t tell her she loved her, and she didn’t even say goodnight to her. She didn’t even touched her, hold her hand, as she sometimes did. The doctors woke her up to ask her to leave the room so they could help her mom).
(In hindsight, she thinks that maybe her mom was almost dead while she was sleeping).
(She feels so guilty that she couldn’t even cry when the doctors told her her mom didn’t make it. She feels to guilty she couldn’t bring herself to touch the body to say goodbye — she was so scared of touching a cold body; she wanted to remember the warm skin she touched hours before).
(She got her life back, but now her mom is not her life anymore, and she doesn’t know what to do).
(She misses her mom, and she still can’t cry).
it’s so funny bc sen MASSIVELY minimized the sexual assault plot, made it very very clear kaine was under duress and was in pain the entire time AND arguably went too far out of their way to emphasize with kaine in the flashbacks that he never touched her without explicit consent & that was his main priority (at a certain point i was like…. okay…) and people are still acting like the book is about Rape Being Romantic. you people can’t handle anything.
*screams into the abyss and the abyss screams back*
I like you.
You like me.
However, I am not good enough for you to love me in the way I love you.
But I can’t leave because not seeing you would hurt me more than staying here waiting forever for something that’s never going to happen.
This Blue Monday has turned into Tuesday.
Project Hail Mary is the greatest sci-fi story I've ever read
I just really love this book, it's so beautiful oml
Rocky is my favourite alien ever (with the possible exception of Grand Admiral Thrawn), but more than that he's such a charming character who enchants you with his curiosity and delight to learn, wonderful on par with Temeraire from Naomi Novik's novels of the same name
And Ryland Grace is so fantastic as a character too, I almost forget that because of Rocky's brilliance. Grace is shown to be so kind, caring, (usually) selfless and intelligent, the perfect educator, yet at first convinced he's fundamentally the wrong man for the job. And yet as the story progresses, we see how brave and practical he is, and it's his role as an educator that makes him perfect for the job - both how he taught DuBois and Shapiro, and how he applies the attitude of teaching to learning about Rocky, the Eridians, Astrophage and Taumoeba. The fact that the book concludes with this is absolutely wonderful too.
I read it with my family, including my younger brother, and the way it applies science and physics in particular so that we could all understand it perfectly is so amazing. It's even better when you realise that it's TEACHING YOU AND I ONLY JUST REALISED THAT AVGEFVUWEFBUHSBDH
Each one of the story's wide cadre of characters is unique and everything they do tells you exactly what kind of person they are. Something about Bob Redell is so hilarious to me ('Swindler Bob' had me in stitches).
Basically, read the book. It's perfect, and I loved it.
They are making project hail Mary a movie!!
the thing about project hail mary is that it says things like at the start of our existence we watched each other sleep to protect ourselves from our biology and now it is just a part of our lives but all my crewmates are dead so i shall watch you sleep to keep you safe please watch me sleep too and then it says things like an alien wants to see our technology so i am cleaning my spacecraft up whilst he prepares the airlock because i am painfully human and we clean up for company and it just expects me to go on living my life normally like that isn't emotionally compromising

i made these with ao3's HTML -- you can find tutorials and more on the website itself; if anyone wants direct links, id be happy to share.
and i'll make more! just tell me what to write and i'll slap it down :)
(TYSM to @dimension-246 for beta-ing some of these!!)
project hail mary said "we would be ecstatic to find out that there's other intelligent life out there, so why wouldn't they be just as happy to find out about us?" and then proceeded to write an entire thesis on how the inherent nature of sentient beings is to forge friendships, to not be alone, to protect each other at all costs. i'm inconsolable
“If I were there, I would be with you.”
That’s the thing: you’re not here.
Spoiler alert: he was lying. He always did. He never really meant it.

Buddy your child craves academic achievement like an addict craves meth but panics when they get a bad grade and uses books as an escapism type coping method

I would have written you, myself, if I could put down in words everything I want to say to you. A sea of ink would not be enough. But you built me dreams instead.
This.
