A glass of water cant fix everything WHY IS WATER MENTIONED SO MUCH
âââââââââ
As you slowly wake up your mind feels hazy, your body feeling more weighed down than usual. Noticing your dry throat you reach for the bedside table to pick up the glass of water Xanthus always leaves for you at night, ensuring it stays fresh and full, and take sips of it as you slowly sit up. You place down the glass and turn on the lamp beside you and look over to the empty side of the bed, a small frown making its way onto your face as you look around for Xanthus. You know that he likes to sit and read on the armchair by the bookcase in your bedroom and keep an eye on you as you sleep, but he doesnât seem to be in your shared bedroom at all.
Your feet hit the cold wooden floor and you push yourself up before pausing your movements and beginning to cough, your throat feeling raw and uncomfortable again. You reach for the water once more and take sips as you stand groggily and begin to make your way to the door.
Quiet voices mutter conversation as you tiptoe through the chilly hallway and head towards the main living room. The light from the room stings your eyes as the brightness sends a wave of aching through your head and you groan.
âYouâre awake,â you hear Dontis say as you enter the room quietly, Xanthus also speaking, âare you feeling alright, Love? Do you need some more water?â.
âIm okay thank you,â you mumble, your throat still aching from coughing so hard, âi dont feel wellâ.
Xanthus gives you his full attention immediately, standing to place his hand on your shoulder to help steady your swaying form, something you hadnât noticed until he steadied you.
âWhatâs wrong? Does your head hurt? Was it the food you ate from the cafe Dontis took you to? Or maybe you caught something from somebody whilst you were out, i knew i shouldnât have let you go out with Dontis by yourselfâŚâ his questions began rapidly but slowly dwindled into frustrated muttering that you only half registered. Out of the corner of your eye you notice Dontis roll his eyes and begin to stand, silently moving towards the kitchen. How did the pair of them move about so silently? Compared to them you practically announces yourself wherever you went through your footsteps alone.
You were dragged out of you thoughts by Xanthus as he pulls you gently towards the sofa and helps you sit beside him. âCome now Love, tell me whats wrong,â the concern is thick in his tone, he knows that it wont be serious and its probably just a common cold as the winter months have begun to set in recently but heâs no less worried for your health.
âMy head hurtsâŚâ you mutter, âmy whole body aches,â you lean closer to Xanthus and rest your head on his shoulder slowly. He raises a hand and tucks a few strands of hair behind your ear, placing a light kiss on your forehead that feels just a little too warm for his liking.
Just as Xanthus was about to speak, Dontis returns with a tray, he sets it down in front of you both on the coffee table and retreats to his seat. Before you is a small bowl of sliced strawberries, a small cup of herbal tea and two small boxes, one of paracetamol and another of ibuprofen.
âThank you, Dontis,â Xanthus says quietly as Dontis looks up from the book he had seemingly pulled out of thin air, âits no problem, they are good to have to help you through a common cold,â he smiles softly as you thank him almost silently, your voce coming out as hardly a whisper.
You begin to reach for the fork on the tray but Xanthus stops you, gently pushing your arm back down and encouraging you to lie back against the sofa as he then reaches for the fork and stabs a piece of strawberry, raising it to your lips.
âI can feed myself Xan,â you grumble but he just shushes you and waits for you to open your mouth. You do so and he gently places the strawberry in your mouth and you chew slowly.
Xanthus speaks up again as he returns the fork to pick up another piece of fruit, âI know Love, I lust like taking care of you,â you chuckle and take another piece from the fork.
Once you finish the strawberries and sip on the tea for a while, making your throat feel a thousand times better, you take some medication to help with your headache.
âWould you like to go back to our room together, Love? It is still the middle of the night after all and you should get some more sleep, itâll help you recover,â xanthus reaches out a hand again as he speaks, rubbing his thumb over your cheek gently.
âYeah, im still tired anyways⌠youâll stay with me though, right?â You turn to look at him and he smiles softly.
âOf course I will, love.â
I have no idea how to end on a person speaking, do i put a comma? Do i put the full stop after the quotation marks? Do i put two full stops? I DONT KNOW. Iâve been working on this for months, writing then reading and reading it again and editing and hating it and starting over, GOD. But in celebration of Xanthus returning i decided to finish this quickly and post it so i hope it isnt terrible. 0-0
I hope you all have lovely rest of you November and beginning of the festive season :D
