This report presents a summary of the Teacher Capacity Building Workshop on the British System of Learning conducted on 20th February 2026 in Eastleigh.
The training was organized and delivered under the British System of Learning Capacity Building Program by Elimuhub Education Consultants, with the objective of strengthening teachers’ understanding and practical application of the British curriculum framework.
The workshop focused on enhancing instructional quality, aligning classroom practice with international standards, and improving learner outcomes through structured pedagogical approaches and assessment strategies.
2. Overview of the Training
The workshop comprised structured, interactive sessions covering the following key areas:
Foundations and philosophy of the British education system
Curriculum structure, Key Stages, and subject progression
Learner-centred and inquiry-based pedagogical approaches
Effective lesson planning and structured lesson delivery
Assessment for Learning (AfL) and feedback strategies
Classroom environment expectations and professional standards
Sessions were practical and discussion-based, allowing participants to engage through reflection, scenario analysis, and contextualized classroom examples relevant to the Kenyan education environment.
3. Participation and Engagement
The participating teachers demonstrated strong professionalism and active engagement throughout the training.
Participants:
- Contributed meaningfully during discussions
- Asked reflective and forward-looking questions
- Demonstrated openness to refining their classroom methodologies
- Showed commitment to aligning practice with British curriculum expectations
The use of practical illustrations and contextual application enhanced clarity, relevance, and confidence in implementation.
4. Outcomes of the Training
By the end of the workshop, participants were able to:
Demonstrate improved understanding of the British curriculum structure and Key Stages
Apply learner-centred and inquiry-based teaching strategies
Develop lesson plans with clear learning objectives and measurable success criteria
Integrate formative assessment and structured feedback practices
Recognize the importance of a purposeful classroom environment in supporting learning progression
Overall, the training achieved its objectives and equipped teachers with practical, implementable strategies to enhance classroom delivery.
A. Strengthening the Use of Talking (Working) Walls
It is recommended that the school intentionally enhance the use of talking/working walls to support teaching and learning. These should:
Clearly display current learning objectives and key vocabulary
Showcase model answers and samples of learner work
Evolve progressively as learning advances
Be actively referenced during lessons rather than remaining decorative
Effective working walls should reinforce lesson objectives, promote learner independence, and visibly demonstrate progression of learning.
B. Follow-Up and Ongoing Professional Support
To sustain and maximize the impact of the training, the following is recommended:
Conduct structured follow-up sessions or learning walks to monitor implementation
Encourage peer observation and instructional coaching
Facilitate collaborative lesson planning within departments
Provide continuous professional development (CPD) aligned with British curriculum standards
Ongoing support will ensure consistency, accountability, and continuous improvement in teaching and learning practices.
While the training was successfully delivered, several operational challenges were observed:
A. Inconsistent Teacher Attendance
Attendance was below full participation despite prior scheduling discussions and confirmations. Some teachers were unavailable due to personal commitments, while others confirmed late or reported absence on the training day.
Notably:
- One teacher reported sick on the morning of the session.
- One participant arrived approximately one hour late, delaying the official commencement of the workshop.
- Scheduling adjustments were required due to conflicting staff availability.
These factors affected:
- Timely commencement of sessions
- Optimal group engagement and collaboration
- Full institutional alignment during capacity building
B. Scheduling and Commitment Gaps
Multiple date adjustments were discussed prior to the workshop. However, final enforcement of attendance expectations appeared insufficiently structured, resulting in partial turnout.
7. Recommendations on Institutional Improvement
To strengthen future professional development engagements, the following measures are recommended:
A. Formal CPD Attendance Policy
Teacher trainings and development workshops should be officially designated as mandatory institutional activities.
Clear written communication should be issued prior to training dates.
Non-attendance without valid prior approval should attract accountability measures in line with school HR policy.
B. Advance Confirmation Protocol
A final participant list should be confirmed at least 48 hours before training.
School leadership should ensure full staff commitment once trainers are officially booked.
C. Time Management Enforcement
Sessions should begin strictly at the agreed time.
Participants should report at least 15 minutes prior to commencement.
D. Structured CPD Calendar
Develop a termly CPD calendar to minimize scheduling conflicts.
Align professional development sessions with the academic timetable to ensure maximum attendance.
The workshop was successfully delivered and positively received by the attending participants. The teachers demonstrated readiness to implement the strategies discussed. With structured follow-up, improved attendance systems, and institutional support, the school is well positioned to strengthen its delivery of the British curriculum and enhance learner outcomes.
Elimuhub Education Consultants remains committed to supporting schools through structured capacity building, curriculum alignment, and sustainable professional development systems.
