Final prototype
Final solutions
The final shape of the lamp will have a “Pringles” look. This shape is softer, but also more than one person can interact with the lamp. The breathing / moving effect is solved with strings which are attached on the ends of the “Pringles” shape, tie up in the middle of the U profile. The strings are winding up on a small motor (NEMA 17). The movement is programmed with a microcontroller and stepper driver.

PROTOTYPE
We made 2 prototypes. One for the quick testing. And the second one is of course improved. Showing final look. Our lamp is for calming people down. We were lucky because at our school were all of a sudden a lot of stressed people. Yes, admission days. We asked a few applicants to try it. And we asked them a few questions. It was really nice to see, that they like it and it really calms them down. They also gave us feedback about the shape which we improved on the last prototype.

Nadi Shodhana
Doing a hut is a nice idea, however, not everyone has a free spot for it at home. Because we want to reach as many people as possible, the something has to be space non-demanding. Therefore we decided to make an interactive lamp, inspired by lungs. This lamp covered in baby pink latex (ASMR), moving in the same rhythm as the intensity of light brightness.
Breath in; one, two, three, four, five, six; hold your breath; one, two, three; breath out; one, two, three, four, five, six; hold your breath; one, two, three.
This is the rhythm of a pranayama breathing technique called Nadi Shodhana. This technique is based on rate. You count while breathing. The number has to be divided by 2. For example, you inhale for 6 seconds, you hold your breath for 3 seconds (divided by 2) and then you mirror it for exhaling. It can also be 8 and 4 seconds, 10 and 5 and so on. Bigger the number is, more benefits it brings to your body and mind.
Benefits of Nadi Shodhana breathing technique:
Infuses the body with oxygenClears and releases toxins
Reduces stress and anxiety
Calms and rejuvenates the nervous system
Helps to balance hormones
Supports clear and balanced respiratory channels
Helps to alleviate respiratory allergies that cause hay fever, sneezing, or wheezing
Balances solar and lunar, masculine and feminine energies
Fosters mental clarity and an alert mind
Enhances the ability to concentrate
Brings balance to the left and right hemispheres of the brain
A hut I build up for my self with color changing lights. Inside, I feel good and safe. From outside it's a nice object.

From an assemblage of our answered questions, we found out we would like to work with light, reacting with us in due to calm us. In the very beginning, we wanted to create something like a membrane of a uterus. There we felt safe. Once you get in, there is a light changing its intensity to evoke breathing. Breathing is in calming process crucial. Meditations are basically based on breathing. Your body gets more oxygen and it leads to some chemicals reactions, which calms you down. ...Ture for every experience, more senses you involve, more powerful the experience is. We discovered that feeling of stretchy fabrics pulling around your body is very agreeable. That's why we wanted to work with stretchy, translucid fabrics, such a latex (we wanted to create our own, with special coloring, shape etc.) hanged from the ceiling or on some construction. But creating such a construction is complicated and also expensive. Building a hut on the floor is still a very nice solution. A hut, where, as a child, you tried to escape into a different world. For our hearing sense, I wanted to use something like ASMR. Instead of ASMR videos, I wanted to use an app, called Hear (just for iPhones). This app transforms sounds into a very calm (almost trippy) way. All together it would create a calming safe space.

To be honest, in the last few weeks I didn't really know what to write about. Everything was super blurry. Or, more likely, I wasn't satisfied with the direction we were heading for. Maybe I just had to kill way to much of my darlings (ideas I liked), so no joy was left. Or I was overworked? Who knows, maybe altogether. Sometimes having, at last, a lunch break is good to refresh our brain and so be more productive. Although not having breaks can seem more productive (we have more time to work), it's actually not. I think, this kind of feelings have a lot of people. Being overworked..in general, stressed. Stress is the factor which holds us down. Our mind is not clear and our body responds for stress with illness. The consequences can be even more stressful, right? Ok, let's make a human kind more stress-relieve! This idea came quite natural. After the interviews, we had these questions in our head. Can we create a source of light which can calm you down? Can we make a light which solves suicide thoughts? Can we make a lamp, which interacts with you? Can we influence wintertime to feel like summertime? (This question is related to solving suicidal thoughts.) And last but not least. Can we make a light which solves problems but it is not visible? (In a scenario of full-day use. Something like a fashion accessory. We found out, that different type/color of light can influence our biorhythm, waking, eating disorders etc. I've got an idea to create an accessory with LED light source controlled by an app, where you can set your daily routines, such a time of wakening up, going to sleep, doing sport etc. Based on this data, the color of the light is going to change during the day. Of, course, you can also do a quick change, because something we just can not plan. ) ... R.I.P. We did some fast sketching, to answer all these questions. We selected them and divided into groups. I think, our outcome will be more or less a combination of all our answers.

Interview
Last week, we could experience how light is perceived in church. In order to be more objective, we also asked some questions about how people from church perceive light itself. To get a whole picture of light perception, we wanted to ask these question from the complete opposite. Science.Being in Eindhoven brings some advantages. Eindhoven is well known as a city of light. Thanks to Philips factories which are based here. It was an obvious choice to go to the LAC ( Light Application Center ). Here, we could interview one of the specialists. To be honest, we were surprised to get that similar answers. Here, you can see:
What does light mean to you?
S: I can function. I can see, but it can give me more energy and so my productivity increase. It has an impact on feelings. Ch: It's trust and faith. It's something that makes you happy. It gives you a lot of energy. It's clearness and absence of darkness. What do you not understand about light?
S: It's not about light itself. I don't understand that regular people still do not realize the impact of light. Ch: That the light has no end. There is no beginning and no end. Do you think light can solve problems? S: It can help with improving them. You can read at night. Winter depression is caused by lack of light. Which is scientifically proven. It can make you more active. Light can change your behavior. How far light can change your behavior? Quite far. It determines what we do. Our energy level etc. Does it react to everyone the same? Yes, in general. Ch: I think it prevents problems. The more people seeing the light, the fewer problems they have. But the light doesn't do anything. You have to do it by yourself. But it gives you help. What is the maximum amout of light human can handle? S: I don't know. We didn't found the limit yet. A human can handle even 100 000 lumens. Ch: If you have less trust...
Church
Sine our classes are more human related, we decided to focus more on human, rather than science. I have to admit, it wasn't easy to say goodbye to all experiments, but it's time to step out of our heads and theory back to actual humans. An so we decided to explore light with its impact on people. If there is some archetype of light and if so, how can it change people behavior? In which position they place a light?.. etc. I think it was a good decision to go to a church. We visited a church in a center of Eindhoven; St. Catherine. Light in a church has very spiritual meaning. In fact, in a church is not that much light. Therefore one can focus on his/her inner. I noticed, that the main sources of light are from stained glass windows. Stained glass windows here, is more than a shining billboard trying to transmit its message. Or candles, one of the main sources, with their mysterious tone. This research was mainly about an experience, so I decided to light one candle as well. First, you have to buy the candle. It's more in the meaning of charity, but still, you do an investment (even tho, it's just 50 cents). Here, light is not a device to visual perception, here, the light gives a hope. Suddenly I had to realize for who I'm praying for. Who is important in my life. Power of a candle is, that you can smell it and the smell is actually quite strong. Then our association is stronger because we can experience it with more preceptors. They light a candle at the beginning of preaching and light off in the end. Light is God, God is with them. I don't want to talk too much about Church itself, so I'll close it with a small discovery. In the past (the church was in Gothic style), on the stained glass window, the main message was the brightest, but in the renovated windows, it was almost every time the opposite.
