i love that C.S Lewis (as well as the movies) never tried to make Edmund something he wasn’t. after his betrayal and everything, he didn’t become some loud hero (aka, he didn’t become Peter). He was the supportive, quieter younger brother. same with his friendship with Caspian. and while that often frustrated Edmund/made him jealous, that was his purpose. no one was meant to be the same, everyone is made for a specific purpose (in a Christian context, symbolized with Aslan). Edmund never became perfect, nor did he magically grow a new personality. instead, he simply grew into the person he was meant to be-smart, witty, supportive, etc. that is, possibly, why Edmund is my favorite.
Edmund + his torch
Okay so I keep seeing this post popping up on Pinterest and such, haven’t come across it on Tumblr but I want to clear a few things up. People seem to be struggling with the concept of Narnian and Earth time, which is understandable, it’s hard to get your head around. I’ve seen a lot of comments going on about the “so the last time he didn’t believe her was a good thirty or forty years ago” line. And yeah, it’s an incredibly incorrect sentence. But every person who has attempted to “correct” it, has got it wrong too. And so, referencing Companion to Narnia, I will attempt to set the record straight. The year the Pevensie’s came through the wardrobe into Narnia was 1940, and the year 1000 in Narnia. The Pevensie’s were in Narnia for 15 years, leaving Narnia while chasing the white stag in the year 1015. They enter England 1940 at the exact time they left. A year later, in 1941, the Pevensie’s are called back to Narnia by Susan’s horn. Meaning Edmund has been believing Lucy for a total of 16 years. Not 30, not 40, not 1300, 16 years. Now, 983 years after the Pevensie’s left Narnia the Telmarines invade. The year was 1998. Then 305 years later in the year 2303, Caspian X calls the Pevensie’s back to Narnia. I hope this clears things up for people!
