Li-Ion Switching Chargers
The highly integrated synchronous buck regulator is combining with a series of FAN404X of Universal Serial Bus (USB) On-The-Go (OTG) Li-Ion switching charger from Fairchild and it is a synchronous boost regulator, which can supply 5 V. To maintain high efficiency over a wide range of battery voltages and charge states it employs synchronous rectification for both the charger and boost regulators.
The I2C includes to the family of FAN404X, which controlled 1.55 A USB -compliant switch-mode chargers with power path operation and USB OTG boost operation.
The FAN5404X provides battery charging in three phases: conditioning, constant current, and constant voltage. The integrated circuit automatically restarts the charge cycle when the battery falls below a voltage threshold. If the input source is removed, the IC enters a high-impedance mode blocking battery current from leaking to the input. Charge status is reported back to the host through the I2C port.
