Li-Ion Switching Chargers

The highly integrated synchronous buck regulator is combining with a series of FAN404X of Universal Serial Bus (USB) On-The-Go (OTG) Li-Ion switching charger from Fairchild and it is a synchronous boost regulator, which can supply 5 V. To maintain high efficiency over a wide range of battery voltages and charge states it employs synchronous rectification for both the charger and boost regulators.

The I2C includes to the family of FAN404X, which controlled 1.55 A USB -compliant switch-mode chargers with power path operation and USB OTG boost operation. 

The FAN5404X provides battery charging in three phases: conditioning, constant current, and constant voltage. The integrated circuit automatically restarts the charge cycle when the battery falls below a voltage threshold. If the input source is removed, the IC enters a high-impedance mode blocking battery current from leaking to the input. Charge status is reported back to the host through the I2C port.

One of my hobbies is to create my own DIY electronic circuit. Creating DIY circuit is really interesting and exciting, just do some research of the circuit you want to build, study your research and then design a circuit diagram as many as you can. Battery Charger Schematic

Travelling without charger for me is extremely hassle because you don’t know when and where your battery gadget will become empty. Since I encounter this in real life I decided to create my owned battery charger schematic. But this battery charger design is to meet the needs of some who want a 24 volts battery charger.

I would like to share to you the schematic of the battery charger that I did. In this battery charger I used 240/24Vac(rms) transformer. After rectification and filtration i got about 30Vdc.Therefore the transformer and diode rating should be well chosen to meet your demand.

The transistor U1,Q1 and resistor R1 plays dynamic roll in the current limiting stage. When U1 switches on it short circuits the gate voltage of Q1 thereby restricting current flow through the battery under charge. U1 will only switch when Voltage across it's base-emitter Vbe is up to 0.7V. The voltage drop across R1 determine this, if the voltage drop across R1 is up to 0.7V then U1 switches on then, I(current thru batt)=0.7/R1(sense resistor). Ohms Law.

The float charge stage comes to play when the Battery Voltage builds up to 28Vdc. In this design once the voltage gets to 28Vdc, it is considerably large enough to make the zener diode reach it breakdown voltage. And once this is done U2 switches on and consequently short circuit gate voltage of Q1. The charger is now said to float charge. The LED comes on when the battery is full. Note: In most cases D6 is chosen to be 10v but 6v can be chosen for logic MOSFETs. And this current limiting circuit only allows N-channel MOSFETs.
