"... You are the girl with small hands and big eyes who never stops asking for more." ~Sarah Kay
city streets {gerry&ella}
"Already getting tired of the company?" He offered an amused grin down at her. He could understand that considering at the castle he often went off on his own. Gerry was sure if he was living at home, heād have probably had too much company for his liking. Now, alone in his own apartment, Gerry felt that loneliness creep up on occasion. "I will warn you that these adult things are not much fun." As much as he tried to stay serious he couldnāt.Ā
His eyes scanned the shops as they walked through and he tried to figure out what he needed to buy. There was a long list. Mainly he wanted to replace the old couch and a few odds and ends within the living room. āAlright, lets. I could use your opinion on things. Buying furniture is new for me. Everything was always chosen for me back home.āĀ
Ella shook her head. "Your company? Not at all. If you're silly enough to try to tell me what to do, I just ignore you." Her shoulders lifted and she returned his grin before waving one hand in dismissal and raising her eyebrows. "It's got to be better than planning garden parties and don't even try to pretend that sounds fun. It's horrible."
Her eyes rolled gently as their strides matched. She might walk fast, Ā but Gerry was a good head taller than her. "I know what that's like. But you're an adult now, and you get to do adult things like choose your own coordinating patterns." Ella, atleast, was looking forward to helping with that. "What does your apartment look like, though? I need to know."
city streets {gerry&ella}
He felt an overwhelming amount of content take over at having Ellaās hand in his own. He looked down at her in a way he didnāt let himself show before. It was hard to control when he felt no reason to do so in the first place. āYou donāt owe me anything. I didnāt mind at all.ā He shrugged his shoulders. Spending time with her family wasnāt a horrible way to spend his afternoon and it really was enjoyable to take a break from his browsing.Ā
Glancing around them his eyes scanned the windows. āSo what would you like to do for those few hours of freedom?ā He honestly hadnāt really thought much about what he would like to do during time with her since he didnāt really think that it would be possible to happen that day.Ā
"I'll just crash whatever you planned on doing," Ella decided, using her free hand to twist a lock of hair around her fingertips. "I'm really just so glad to be free of my fellow Andolvssons, I think. When we're at the castle, at least, I can sneak away to be by myself-- and my mother and grandmother certainly aren't anywhere to be found."
Heading back into the main drag of Diagon Alley, Ella bounced on her toes and looked over her shoulder at her companion. The endless opportunities he seemed to be offering were exciting to her. "You said something about furniture right? Let's go do that. I re-decorated my room last year and I think it's one of my hobbies now."
You would be surprised how few of us realise that magic canāt fix everything.
And your alternative is stabbing people with wands? I'm confused.
Gasping For Some Air ⣠Alex & Ella
Returning her attention back fully to what the younger Gryffindor was saying, Alex listened intently and nodded along. She laughed when Ella mentioned her mumās actions. āThat sounds exactly like a thing my dad would do, too!ā She let her giggles carry through until they faded naturally.Ā
The Head Girl checked her watch, a habit more frequent than ever now, and realised Ella should have been back in Gryffindor Tower. It was late. Alex herself really should have been finishing off her Transfiguration essay and heading to bed for the early start tomorrow. āSorry love but I really have to go.ā She patted Ella on the shoulder jovially before getting onto her feet. āBut really, thanks. Again. Donāt be a stranger! And let me know if you change your mind on that Prefect thing, yeah? Iām sure we could sort,ā Her eyerbows raised with a smirk and a casuaul shrug. āSomething out.ā
Ella sighed, shook her head good-naturedly. "Parents. What're you gonna do?" It had been a comfort to herself, at least, that after the initial shock her parents handled the information quite well. No one had made any side comments about her behavior in the past, or her grades. Overall, the family's acceptance of only two prefects had gone as smoothly as possible.
"Ugh, alright. If you must go do coursework." Ella waved her hands vaguely before rising to match the Head Girl. "I'd love to catch up with you whenever you're free! You know where to find me." The younger girl nodded in the direction of Gryffindor Tower. "Although I don't think I'll be taking you up on that offer. Two goody-goodies in my family are quite enough, thank you." Her laugh echoed up the stairwell as she stuck her tongue out at Alex. "Don't try to change me!"
See? A wand through the eye really could be as deadly as a curse.
That's... comforting to know, I guess?
city streets {gerry&ella}
He had strode out the door and paused a moment. He felt better than he had before but still a tinge of loneliness crept up that had been lingering ever since he left home. The apartment had been far too empty for his liking and that was a thought that made him begin to move towards the more busy part of Diagon Alley. He wondered where to start and perhaps if food was in order. Which reminded him that he should do grocery shopping as well.Ā
Suddenly his arm was being grabbed and he had to catch his balance. However a bright grin appeared on his face at seeing who it was and he bit it back as he followed her lead. When they were away from the main road, Gerry smirked and raised his eyebrows. āThis is a surprise, love.ā He pulled his not-Ella-grabbed hand from his pocket and made her walk a bit slower since they were no longer in the sight of her family. āHowād you get away?ā
She shrugged. "Cornelia owes me," Ella explained. "So naturally I made her cover for me." It was hard to pinpoint the exact reason she'd chased after him like this-- diving headfirst into things was her forte, but for some reason standing in his gaze had the soon-to-be-fifth year feeling out of her depth.
"I've got a few good hours of being free from my house, at least," she added, feeling her free hand swing around to even out her momentum. "I feel like I owe you since I made you sit with my whole family there for an hour or so." She grimaced.

Alex broke away. āServes her right. If I see it on my way back down the stairs Iāll pick it up and give it to her at our next prefects meeting. If not, oh well.ā She rested her elbow on her knee and rested her head in her palm; facing Ella. āThat reminds me. Both your sisters have a badge now. Did you want one, too? Iāve been wondering.ā
She noticed the pull on one of her boots zips was coming loose ā something Alex would only notice this close to her ankles ā and pulled her wand from her pocket, nonchalantly casting a non-verbal spell to fix it back onto the zipper. It gave Ella a moment of silence to answer her question.
"Course not," Ella answered the older girl after a beat. It was a question she figured most people who knew the Andolvssons would have weighing on their mind-- the family didn't do things by halves (or in this case, thirds) and Ella's not being named a Prefect was probably surprising to hear. But the Gryffindor was infamous for never fitting the mold and this act of rebellion tasted like victory.Ā
"Irma deserves it, first off. She's much more prone to better behavior than I am. As are my sisters. I never wanted to be Prefect anyways, and I think my parents always knew that despite never admitting it out loud. Mum counted the letters atleast four times, though, just to be sure." The laughter from earlier had never quite faded from her voice.

"I understand. I feel the same, sort of. All mum and dad want to talk about is what I want to do with my life, and thatās always such a bore. It just makes my head hurt."Ā Rosia had to keep up the act that she was still considering the family position. She still didnāt have the guts to tell them, or the heart. They would probably support her, but she knew deep down they would be disappointed with her; and she hated to disappoint her parents.Ā "Plus, I just feel like you, me, and Cor are becoming so different. So apart."Ā Rosia smirked slightly and nudged Ella playfully.Ā "You should visit that Gerry fellow. You fancied him, right?"
"Shoulda shown some slacker genes early. Then they'd leave you to your own devices a bit more."Ā The younger Andolvsson grinned over at her sister. She could imagine that constantly trying to be the most-promising of the trio.Ā Her sister's question about Gerry, though, nearly made Ella falter.Ā "You could say that,"Ā she said, feeling heat rise to her cheeks.

āI vow my silence! Promise.ā Alex nodded, amused. āAnd pleeeeease; Iām no where near a goddess. Youād be surprised what a bit of confidence and networking can do for someoneās reputation.ā The Head Girl still remembered her days as a āprotegeā, learning under the wings of some of Hogwarts most popular and successful of the past decade. She worked hard from day one to replicate her fatherās career at the magic school. Now that she had it, the prize at the end didnāt seem so worth having. Nevertheless she felt better about it all. Alex had to credit that feat to the girl beside her.
Rather unexpectedly ā even to herself ā Alex threw her arms over Ellaās shoulders and pulled her into a hug; careful not to make it too tight. āThanks Ella. For this. Listening and all.ā
"Hey," Ella protested, pointing a finger at the Head Girl. "Humility is great and all, but you need to remember that your rep as a goddess is without tarnish, and shall remain that way." Alex was a role model to Ella, still. It was an irrefutable fact at this point-- the older girl had been nothing but kind to her for the whole five years they'd known each other, and even under pressure Alex was proving to be her usual supportive self.
Ella was surprised by the hug but accepted it gladly. It was a sign that Alex was more comfortable than she had been just a few minutes ago, and the younger Gryffindor could only count that as a victory. "You're welcome! I figure it's the least I could do since I completely chucked Irma's Remembrall down the stairs to prove a point." She laughed.
Yeah, Iād say it went quite well, and I didnāt even say āthe lineā. Oh, they donāt spit fire. They - theyāre much nicer, long as theyāre not shedding. Itās basically a big lizard with a cool name.
Always an improvement. But what you're telling me is that you have a pet lizard. That actually is pretty cool.
At home in Ella's room, mid-July
Rosie decided not to harp on her sister for rolling her eyes. She was in far too good a mood. The duo stepped into the shop and halted at the end of the line.Ā "Iām definitely getting the rainbow colored flavor, and I will have a rainbow colored mouth, and you will have to walk around with me for the rest of the day."Ā She smiled and took a centimeter step foward as the line budged a bit.Ā "How are you doing, by the way? I feel as if we havenāt spoken in forever."
"Of course you will, and I'll be proud to be seen with you anyways."Ā It wasn't unusual for that to happen, and Ella certainly wasn't about to tell her sister 'no'. They were taking a vacation from their holiday, and Rosia could do whatever she wanted.Ā "I'm as well as can be expected. Bored out of my mind, though. I'll admit to hiding away lately-- I feel like I'm going to explode if I'm around the family for too long."
Great. Oh, well, they - they werenāt all that interesting, but hey! Youāll have to meet Leonidas. Heās my dragon. MyĀ muggleĀ dragon. Heās great. Other than that though, I spent most of my time in the bakery and comic book shops, and Ruby came to meet my mum. And I obviously tried to help Aramis practice quidditch, so.
Ooooooh, Ruby Bradford. Nice.Ā There's muggle dragons? What do they do?
Well thank you very much, Ella. Thatās a good start. Iāll owe you for that one then. Keep them coming.Ā
I'll work up to bigger ones as we go along, but for now I'd love to hear more about your escapades this summer, they sound ever so bold and exciting.
Gasping For Some Air ⣠Alex & Ella
āIām doing⦠Iām doing ā as well as could be expected, considering how things are right now. Busy.ā Alex widened her eyes. āAll the time.ā She began to feel a little uncomfortable with how Ella was looking at her. Worried. It was no fault of the younger Gryffindorās, Alex just didnāt like others being distressed over her. It was an independent streak. She straightened herself up, hoping to look a little less pitiful. āI know Iām welcome.ā She smiled. āThanks for the conformation though. Itās just that I thought Iād enjoy having more space. Like, having a place to wind down from the day in the company of a solid peer. And Cyās not an issue. Entirely what I expected and wanted. But I miss the noise!ā Alex tittered. āThe hustle and bustle of the common room. Making sure the boys didnāt get themselves into too much trouble,ā One eyebrow raised. āNevertheless a waste of time. But still. I miss really stupid things, like the squeaky door to the girlsā bathroom. Even my room mate Rosewood, with her dagger eyes and sulks.ā Alex gasped, covering her mouth; surprised at her own honesty. āWoops.ā The Head girl giggled. āI hope you donāt think Iām a bitch.ā
Her nose wrinkled. "I can understand that, in an abstract way. I'm not nearly as busy as you, but everyone's always swamped at the beginning of year." Ella's head tilted. She could sense that the older Gryffindor wasn't exactly ready to open up to her, but as one of three sisters, she was hardly daunted.
"Well, I'm sure if you give it time things will get better. You've just got to adjust to your new surroundings," Ella mused, looking down at her feet. "I think you'll be fine soon enough-- you're practically a goddess. And think, you're going to be much better adjusted than the other seventh years, when you guys all leave."Ā Ella shook her head as Alex laughed, a giggle escaping her lips to match it. It was nice to see the older girl happy. "I'm scared of Rolanda, so I certainly don't disagree. But this doesn't leave the staircase."
Arenāt you always? Although there were very little compliments and ego boosting that went on in my life this summer. Weāll have to catch up on that.
I'd certainly be glad to do that. You look very tan, Nik.
