“It really does”, Lola agreed. “Wild Ella and wild Lola would have had so much fun together, Camden. It’s almost a shame that those periods of our lives didn’t really overlap”. During that time in her life, Lola had gone out of her way to push people away and although it was her own doing, she had been awfully lonely. Part of her knew that if she and Ella had been in that head-space at the same time, the blonde may have stood a chance at cracking through her tough facade. “I think people stuck around because they knew that you were going through something and that your attitude was just a cover… people knew that there was more to you lingering beneath the surface”, she commented. “Can you tell Charlie that? Because if I even mention hooking up with his cousin, he loses his goddamn mind”.

“I know right? If I ever go wild again and you go wild again, I’ll give you a call,” Ella joked. In all seriousness, she hoped neither of them ever had to go through that again. “Yeah, I’ve never really been a good liar, either. My attitude probably seemed really obviously faked. I need to work on that,” she said, shaking her head. “I’ll tell Charlie. I don’t get why he cares so much. A few years ago he probably would have been the one at the wedding hooking up with a hot cousin. I’d give you permission to hook up with my cousins, but I think they’re probably too innocent.”

“I think if I brought that up at my family dinner, I’d be kicked out,” Ella said with a laugh. “My brothers might find it funny, though.”

Arden stood in front of the mirror in the clothes store, trying to decide if the outfit she was trying on was the right fit for the situation at hand. With Lovey having resigned her position at the sorority to indefinitely move to Oregon for an internship, Arden was planning on talking to her sisters tonight to see if they would be supportive of her becoming president of the sorority. It was something that Lovey had encouraged her to do before moving, not wanting the sorority to be left in someone else’s hands. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw someone familiar and decided to ask for their opinion. “Don’t just stand there, come over here. I need you to tell me whether this outfit screams trust me, I’m definitely the right choice to run the sorority”. 

Ella had been out shopping when she noticed a familiar face just across the store. The brunette seemed to be deep in thought examining her outfit, and Ella found herself wondering if it would be best to leave her be or go over and offer her thoughts. Her eyes widened as the other spoke, and she quickly walked over to take a closer look. “The outfit totally works for that. You look awesome,” she said. “But...” she paused for a moment, before running to a nearby rack and grabbing a blazer. Quickly taking it back to the other girl, she handed it over, “A blazer always screams professional. Everyone will have to vote for you if you’ve got a blazer on.”

“Is that so? Now I know why I don’t read those things,” Charlie replied with an easy smile, not taking her seriously. “The ones I hear make sense,” he insisted. “Please? Can I hear just one? A little bit of one?”

“Maybe if you read them, you’d tame your annoyingness,” Ella told him, grinning. “I won the race to the playground, I’m supposed to be getting whatever I want, and you’re here begging to be serenaded,” she said, though she was only joking. “But fine, I’ll play you a voice memo I have when we get up to the room.”

“Honestly, I think that’s a pretty universal trait in women. I feel like every single female friend I’ve ever had has overthought things… I do it all the time”, Lola admitted, not wanting Ella to feel like she was alone in that regard. “One of these days I’m going to force you to share some details of these previous hookups. It’s only fair considering you know basically everything about my love life. Have you hooked up with anyone that I know? I’ll take your secret to my grave”, she rambled, her curiosity piqued by Ella’s comments. “He’s very lucky to have two strong, kickass, amazing women in his life”, she said, complimenting the both of them at the same time. “I know that I’m going to be the best man when the two of you get married… well, I’ll be best man if I solemnly promise Charlie that I won’t hook up with his cousin at the wedding”.

“Society sucks for making us so self conscious all the time,” Ella said, shaking her head. “Bold of you to assume I was sober enough remember even half of them. I’ve probably hooked up with someone you know, but no one we’re that close to. I didn’t want people getting concerned,” she said, not exactly fond of the memories from that time in her life, “We both know I was an expert at pushing people away. I made out with a guy at a party just to piss Charlie off, which worked. Damn, I acted like such a bitch, I don’t know why people stuck around.” Ella gave a soft smile at Lola’s compliment, which quickly turned into a laugh at the talk of best man. “I give you permission to hook up with his cousin at the wedding. I won’t let him ban you from being best man.”

Charlie raised his brows at her, part amused. “Sounds like the kind of excuse a dramatic person would make up. If that’s true, what does my star sign say, then?” he challenged. “You’re always writing good songs. C'mon, I haven’t gotten to hear you play in ages.”

“Your star sign says you’re annoying,” Ella said, narrowing her eyes at him. “That is a lie, sometimes my songs come out making no sense. “I’m not playing you the songs, you’ll hear them when they’re ready to be heard.”

“No wonder my self-esteem is so low”, Lola said with a loud, dramatic sigh. Having known Ella well for a number of years now, she could see the blonde’s smile falter slightly. “Sorry, I shouldn’t have said that. I didn’t mean it in that way… I was trying to explain why I made the decision to give him the time of day but it definitely came across in that way… and now I’m rambling, which makes it ten times worse. I should just stop talking”, she rambled, her cheeks flushing a light pink as she did so. “He does. He’s completely crazy about you, Ella. I may not have known him as long as you have but it’s obvious that he loves you more than anything. He’s never happier than when he’s with you”.

“No, no, it’s okay,” Ella said, immediately feeling guilty that Lola was apologizing. The blonde’s insecurities were her own issues she needed to deal with. “I see what you meant. I just have a habit for overthinking things, I guess,” she said, shrugging, “I can’t really be upset about his past hookups, anyway. I mean, it’s not like I haven’t had my own fair share.” Despite her worries, Lola’s reassurance did make Ella feel better and she flashed a smile, “Aw, well thanks. I guess I could give you a compliment now. He loves you, too, and would probably die without you. I mean that literally because if I had to put up with him 100% of the time, I’d probably kill him.”

Whether it was him or not – he didn’t want to think about it being anyone other than him – he was damn sure they would know how lucky they were to be in Ella’s life. Laughing when she slapped his arm, he insisted, “You’re definitely dramatic.” He loved it, though. As they headed up in the elevator, he asked, “Have you been writing anything new?”

“Me being dramatic is in my star signs. I’d quite literally be going against the universe and all of astrology if I strayed from that personality trait,” Ella said, as if the reasoning should have been obvious. “I’m always writing new things. But as far as good songs... I may have written a couple. You can’t hear them, yet, though.”

Charlie laughed, “S’pose it would.” When she continued, he hesitated a moment. She was right: her husband was going to be lucky one day, he just wondered… how far ahead she could picture the two of them. “I think he’ll know,” he eventually replied, softer. As they approached the hotel, Charlie playfully rolled his eyes at her unnecessary theatrics. “I’ve really missed how dramatic you are,” he teased, grinning. 

Ella had known for a while that Charlie was the person she wanted to end up with. It had always been him, but she’d never known if he felt the same way. He’d been with so many girls prior to their relationship and she always feared the day when she would no longer be enough. What if he decided he wanted something new and fresh? What if he got bored? Not to mention that she was on tour for half of the year... “I hope so,” she said softly. Watching him roll his eyes at her, Ella playfully slapped him on the arm. “It’s not dramatic if it’s the truth!” she said, pulling him inside and pushing the elevator button, “I’m excited for my massage. I have two knots in my neck from how much I’ve been playing guitar.”
