āGoro was never dead, stop saying Maruki ābrought him backā jrjorrojohā
Really? I thought he died at the end of Shidoās palace or am I mis-remembering?
iāve talked about this at length on the blog and i need coffee rn but!! the main points are:
goro is never shown or said to be dead, not even in vanilla. vague is vague for a reason. no body, no mention of his death in vanilla, no death.
maruki canāt bring dead people back to life, he can only change the actualization, thus resulting in new memories (and he didnāt change the events of shidoās palace, since goro, ren, and the rest of the PT remember it).
by creating a reality where goro never worked for shido, then okumura and wakaba never died. itās a chain of actualization events. haru wants her father back->maruki assumes futaba would want her mother again upon hearing that sheās dead->maruki assumes that goro would not want to work for shido/want to make shido into a non-shithead.
in order for haru and futabaās dreams to come true, maruki has to assume what goroās dream would be. thatās what he grants.
goro show up on christmas eve, yet maruki only exerts his full powers after new yearās eve.
goro remembers everything about his crimes, shido, the PT, etc. from the real world. like ren, he is immune to marukiās dream-granting amnesia, indicating that he isnāt like the wakaba or okumura actualizations at all.
if maruki really did create a dream goro, then that should have no knowledge of the real world prior to hisĀ ācreation.ā goro has his full memories, barring what happened after he and ren separated after their fight. ergo, heās goro.
unlike wakaba, okumura, and that cute shiba inu down the block, goro does not disappear for good. he is there in the true ending.
My OC from a different fandom as a palace owner. Her palace formation would definitely share some similarities with Futaba in terms of hyper-isolation tendencies. It would likely be a long set of ancient ruins or an empty gothic style castle thatās been withered away by time and is crumbling.
If anyone is interested in a persona v roleplay with me, Iād love to hear from you! Iām always down to roleplay with other peopleās OCs as well, and Iām good at writing for multiple characters at once. Akechi is my absolute favorite character arc and I love writing out the dynamic between him and Joker or other characters. I have a descriptive story-like roleplay style.
Weakness (Akechi and Joker)
Prompt: Akechi goes to confront Akira about his choice concerning Dr. Marukiās reality, and sees a side of his rival he wished he hadnāt.
Goro Akechi, after all heād been through, didnāt think it was possible at this point for him to be surprised. From his first discovery of the metaverse all the way to Akiraās clever escape from death, his own mysterious escape from death in Shidoās palace, to the god of control, and finally when allās said and done, Marukiās reality shifting powers come into playā¦
Heād managed to grasp his situation each time, and thought there was nothing in the world that could catch him off guard.
He was wrongā¦
They were already prepared. The treasure route to Markukiās palace was secure and they were simply counting down the days, waiting until the unavoidable encounter. Akechi was looking for Akira, unfortunate as that was to him, because he needed confirmation. Confirmation that Akira wouldnāt give up and accept Dr. Marukiās reality. Goro knew the thought had crossed his mind, and it made him nervous. He didnāt want to exist in a world where he was under someone elseās thumb anymore. He wanted to atone and make his own choices. It was all he could doā¦
He finally found Akira, after some trouble and asking around, at the temple⦠alone. Morgana wasnāt even present. Perhaps that was a good thing, as the chatty cat never seemed to shut up. Akira was bundled in his winter coat and sitting lax, staring out into space while the cold nipped at him and wind lightly ruffled through his hair. He seemed very deep in thought.
āFinally.ā Akechi groaned. āIt took forever to find you.ā
He stopped short, noticing out Akira suddenly stiffened. As if the sound of his voice was jarring and had dragged him out of whatever mental safe haven he was hiding in. He scoffed, crossing his arms. āI suppose itās like you to get lost in your own head, but we have important matters to discuss.ā
Akira didnāt answer⦠he probably knew what Akechi was here for, and didnāt want to discuss it either way, which was something the former detective would not stand for.
āDonāt think ignoring me is going to get you out of-ā
He was cut off.
āLeave.ā
Goro pauses at this. The command was quiet, but there was a certain⦠agitation behind it. No, not agitation. Anger. It was very unlike the Phantom Thieves leader. Akira was usually so lax and calm about everything. Even in Shidoās palace, he didnāt allow emotions or past situations to interfere with that easy going demeanor, so the sudden twinge of malice in his tone sent up a warning flag.
Akechi narrowed his eyes at this, noting his rivalās suddenly rigid posture. As if the presence of any other human being was a disturbance. Tactfully, he continued.
āAs much as Iād love to be as far away from you as possible, thereās something we need to settle. I wonāt take no for an answer and this childish attitude youāre pulling isnāt going to dissuade me from-ā
It happened suddenly. In a swift blur, Akira was off his seat and lashed out. Akechi was pinned to the wall, the wind knocked out of him. He clenched his eyes shut for a moment in pain, and when he opened them he was met with a very unsettling sight. Akira⦠his usually calm and collected rival, looked like he was ten seconds away from bashing his head into the wall. His eyes were wide and livid. He held Akechi to the wall with a horribly harsh grip on his arms, which was sure to leave a mark later. He was trembling somewhat, but not from the cold. His pupils were dilated and his gaze narrow with lightly concealed threats.
The flood of emotion in those currently cold and angry eyes seemed like they could bore a hole through Akechiās skull. It was the first time heād truly ever seen Akira angry⦠and loathed as he was to admit it, it was frightening.
āA- Akira, what are you doing?!ā Goro cursed himself for stuttering, but he truly was caught off guard.
His breath hitched as Akiraās grip on his arms, somehow, became even tighter.
āCan I not be alone for ten minutes?!ā His rival seethed with barely contained hatred. āIs there no such thing as peace and quiet?! Does something have to be going wrong in my life every other moment?! What do you want?!ā
It didnāt take Akechi long to realize, even in his stunned state, that whatever mental episode was happening right now was likely the result of many months of hidden frustration. Quiet endurance. Truly taking a second to consider it, Akira had been through a lot in a very short span of time⦠The false charges, being ostracized from his parents and sent away, facing the disdain of his peers in school and other adults who couldnāt be bothered to look beyond a few rumors, being caught, drugged, and nearly killed, fighting himself, fighting Shido, then fighting the god of control⦠and just when the chaos and pain seems to have finally settled, being faced with Marukiās reality.
Goro didnāt answer him⦠he stayed quiet, because he was certain saying anything right now would just set Akira off. Eventually, though it took a good long while of hateful staring, his rival seemed to slowly come to the realization of what he was doing. Shakily and slowly he loosened his grip, though he didnāt let go.
Head lowered with a mix of emotions Goro had never before seen, Akira spoke with an exhausted and wavering voice.
āI just need⦠silence.ā
Akechi nodded, and his rival released him, backing away and looking a bit pale as he sat back down, burying his face in his hands. It occurred to him suddenly, that no one, not even the multitude of loyal friends heād made, had ever seen Akira in such a vulnerable state. He hadnāt let them⦠He always had a mask on, to hide his pain from the injustices constantly thrown at him. It was somewhat ironic, that of all the friends he made, it was his rival who got to see this side of him first. Goro should have been pleased⦠but he wasnāt. He didnāt enjoy seeing him like this at all. Especially when Akiraās shoulders began to shake slightly, signifying he was quietly crying. Akechi could tell heād tried to stop it at first, but after having lashed out to begin with deemed it didnāt matter either way and gave in.
So Akechi did the best thing he could do in that situation⦠he left. Left Akira to gather himself without the disruption of other people. The ādetective princeā took the train to Kinjoji, and went to one of the few places he himself found refuge. The jazz club. He sat down, and began to think.
How tempting must Dr. Marukiās reality be to Akiraā¦? After all heās been through, heās faced with a decision. To go back to the world as he knows it, or accept this distorted perfect reality and finally feel peace. He hadnāt even really considered it. Heād been so focused on the thought that Akira might accept Dr. Marukiās offer solely for the sake of keeping him alive, that he hadnāt even thought about the other factors that might be luring him in. Try as he might, Akechi couldnāt get Akiraās moment of weakness out of his head. For the first time, Joker, the leader of the Phantom Thieves, looked so broken. So tired. Like he just wanted to give in and rest. It was honestly rattling, because for the first time, Akira seemed human. Not just some laid back teenage prodigy that has the world handed to him on a silver platter. Honestly, Goro felt a bit uncomfortable that his image of Akira was being skewed in this way. He always saw and detested his rival for the things he had⦠conviction, friends, the power to change his fate. It was part of what made them such great rivals. But Goro shouldāve known better⦠things are never so simple.
The idea that Akira might accept Dr. Marukiās reality now seemed closer than before. Akechi knew he wouldnāt stand a chance against Maruki alone. Heād be forced to accept whatever reality his rival chose. It was disheartening, knowing this decision was out of his hands. He frowned at his drink and sighed.
So be itā¦
scenario where akechi was saved by his phantom-thief lover and they were shot instead of him? maybe they lost their eye? in their last conscious moments they murdered the cognitive goro before they collapsed, and theyre rushed to the hospital once they leave the metaverse. maybe the aftermath of that, in the hospital? (sorry i really love ur writing esp for akechi so... expect more akechi reqs in the future... he best boy...)
Just as a heads up, Iāve actually written something super similar to this request on my ao3. To make this feel different, I changed some little things around here to there. Follow this link if you want to read the other story.
Goro Akechi is not sure what heās feeling.
He knows itās bad, that much hecan tell from the get go, but he hasnāt given it enough thought to categorise itinto pretty little boxes. The past few hours have been too chaotic to even try.Thereās more time to think about it now, he supposes, while youāre asleep ā andthe blaring thrum of his heart in his chest doesnāt sound through his body withthe force of a drum. He feels the cold skin on your hand, and it seems ill andsickly compared to the warmth he usually associates with trailing his fingersalong your palms.
It all comes back to the momenthe loses control of himself; when the difference between inflicting andreceiving pain thins to an incomprehensible, mid-battle haze until theadrenaline recedes along with the strength in his legs. He falls to the floor.
āPlease donāt fight us anymore,āyou say, standing over him. His initial reaction is to laugh in your face.
Humour.
It is funny, isnāt it? Becauseitās long before your first confession that heās wanted to do this. Eversince his birth, his life has been an absolute misery: his father abandonshim, his mother hates him, yells at him, uses his fear to control hisbehaviour in front of others, and eventually, he walks in on her hanging from a ceiling. He spends the first six years of his lifehungry and cold, and the next eleven after that lonely and scared.
Think about ratios here, hetries to justify; two days canāt change a man, even if it was two days ago that-
āI love you, Goro Akechi.ā
Suddenly, the laugh in histhroat feels like a lump.
Fear is the second emotion. It comes when the Phantom Thieves crowdaround him, because he feels small; curled up on the floor and holding everywhere that aches like the same lonelychild from all those years ago.
āIf everyone knew how much of acry-baby you are, theyād tell me to leave you,ā his mother says, and walks outof the room to smoke a cigarette.
Right now, Goro Akechi isnātcrying.
āNow that you know who I am,you should leave me,ā he says. Youāre staring down at him, and you donāt looklike you want to acknowledge his words. You just look kind of sad.
The resolute tone in his voicedoes nothing to portray the tremors inside of him. On repeat, like a brokentape recorder, all he can think is āplease donāt.ā Itās pathetic, it really is,because itās only now that heās lost and grovelling at your feet that he wantsyour pity. By all means, you should leave him.
You really, really should.
Heās scared of your response, because even ifheās not scared of dying here, he is scaredof losing you, and he canāt imagine thereās any way to salvage yourrelationship when youāve found out how heās been pulling the strings.
āWeāre not leaving you,ā yousay.
Like water sinking into theearth, his dread disappears. Heāsdumbstruck, because as much he was hoping (praying, begging, desperatelywishing) for this turn of events, he didnāt think it would actually happen.
āWhy?ā His voice is broken up.It comes out as tattered around the edges, far away from the confidence hetried so hard to emulate.
āYou need our help too.ā Youlook pained, and maybe a little unsure of yourself. āI want to help you.ā
Thereās something akin to joy, but it doesnāt last long. Before hecan say anything, his doppelganger comes.
He should know thereāssomething off about your face, about the way youāre standing slightly on yourtip toes with the muscles in your calves all tensed up and solid, but heās gotother things to worry about. After all, he ison the receiving end of a gun.
He needs to play this right.
Fear comes again, and stays for a while. He fears a lot of thingsin that moment. Heās fears for your life, and it feels strange when justseconds ago he was so indifferent to it. Itās the driving force behind the wayhis face pulls into a grin that feels too tight for his face, and points thegun straight towards you. Itās the first time in his life heās feared pullingthe trigger, and he fears the hurt expression on your face as he does it. Hefears the next decision he has to make, and that too, feels strange, because heāsso used to being ready to throw his life away. Maybe heās been underestimatinghow much the human body wants to survive now that itās come down to it. (Notthat it has a choice, anyway. Heās already made his decision.)
Acceptance is next. When he laughs, itās because heknows thereās no way around it. This is the best-case scenario. They are thewinners, in every way. Theyāre kinder, more honest, and have more love to give.He swerves towards his doppelganger and fires the bullet.
The next few seconds are a madflurry of confusion. He can barelyremember them now, when thereās not so much as a painting on the blank, whitewall of the hospital room to distract him. He thinks maybe youāre the first oneto move, which makes sense, because if you and a bullet get to the same placeat the same time, then surely the bullet needs to be the one to go second.
Thereās a shot, but thatāsfine; itās what heās expecting. What heās not expecting, however, is you comingout of formation to jump at his doppelganger with a knife aimed straight at hisgut, and the bullet to sink neatly into your skull.
Thereās gasps, then panic. Pure, unadulterated panic.
Every part of him snaps.
āNo!ā He jumps towards you. Hisbreath comes out in short little gasps. With no absence in adrenaline, heshoves the other Akechi off and holds your body to his chest. Your eyes areopen, wide, wide open. Youāre scared.
āNo, no, no. Please donāt dothis,ā he chokes out.
Blood drips down to where heāsholding your head in his hand. Thereās already something wet on his face, blurry tears in his vision. āYouāre not doing this.ā
The rest of the Phantom Thievesstart acting quickly (and how typical is that, he thinks, that heās the onebeing useless again.) Akira approaches him from behind and places a hand on hisshoulder.
āYou hold her head,ā he says.
The other Akechi coughs in thebackground, and spouts some incomprehensible mutter about betrayal, about howAkechi is worthless, and how the one person who loved him is going to pay for it. Heās dying quickly. You pulledthe knife out of his stomach as your fell back into Akechiās arms, so the bloodfrom his stomach is coming out in little spurts that colour his khaki coat with a deep crimson. Spasmsgo through his legs as he coughs again, but thatās fine. He doesnāt matter. Youdo.
Ryuji picks up your legs, Akirapicks up your torso, and Akechi gently holds your head. Heās weak. Completelybroken, bruised, and everything hurts, but the adrenaline is still there. Youārestill there too, and thatās what makes the difference. Itās all he needs, evenif the shaky tremors that run through his feet make every step feel wobbly.
āDonāt leave me,ā he whispersinto your hair, and Ryuji looks at him with something that canāt be describedas anything more than pity. āPlease, I love you.ā (Like heās trying to convinceyou to stay.)
āI still love you,ā he says, taking your cold hand to his lips. The tick of the hospital clock feels too methodical. Fifteen minutes to twelve, it says, to remind him that everyone else has left long ago. āYouāll love me too, when you wake up,right?ā The steady beeping line of the heart monitor doesnāt affect him. āEvenif this is all my fault.ā The nurse that comes into the room and ushers him outcanāt stop him either, because he just waits outside and leans against the door until the nextmorning. āDonāt leave me. You canāt leave me,ā he hums against the wall, overand over.
Heās not sure if denial is an emotion.
Ask these two anything! Iāll sketch their replies~ I know the protagonists name is Ren in the game, but Iām going to be using his name from the manga. Enjoy!
Long time since Iāve been on Tumblr, but I intend to start posting my artwork on here again x3 Hope yāall enjoy our resident pancake boi, because Iāve been seriously obsessed with Persona V Royal lately.
I have a funny little head canon in my mind that Alastor is far more perturbed of Luciferās wife than Lucifer himself. First time posting on tumbler so try not to roast me too hard if Iāve done something wrong x3
