Elle was born and raised in Connecticut, peak suburban culture. A mom and dad, a brother, a sister, a golden retriever. The white picket fence. It would take a long time before Elle realized she wanted more out of her life than the bubble she grew up in, and for a long time she was happy where she was.
After high school graduation, Elle stayed in Connecticut for college, majoring in journalism with an interest in journalism, so she could continue to date her high school sweetheart. She had been accepted to schools from all over the country, but he had told her that they’d one day get married and have the perfect life, and the teenage girl fell for it. She’d continue to fall for it for years—ten years, to be exact. One minute she was a bright eyed seventeen year old with her whole life ahead of her, and suddenly in a blink of an eye she was twenty-seven and still living at home, still dating the same boy from high school that showed no sign of proposing or getting a real job. She went from being the first friend in her friend group to have a serious boyfriend at sixteen, to now being the only one without an engagement ring.
It’s unlike Elle to really complain, so used to what she knows that the idea of a life outside of her bubble was near impossible to think about. So her family and friends knew it had to be bad when she told them about her fight with her boyfriend, how he was now her ex-boyfriend. Everyone said they were proud of her, but Elle could also see they were worried about her; with the end of a ten year relationship came a crack in the blonde’s rose colored glasses, now able to evaluate her life and see how unhappy she really was.
So she continued on the rebellious streak, quitting the editorial job that she had been complaining about for nearly two years and convincing her friends to take a trip to Los Angeles with her, in need of somewhere sunny and warm. As a surprise, her friend got them tickets to see Graveyard in concert, and feeling bold, Elle convinced them to sneak backstage after the show to meet the band. It was then that she met Elijah Parker, and from there the rest was history.
Her friends thought she was insane from leaving them behind in Los Angeles to be a groupie with the band, but it was the most free Elle had ever been. She had done more drugs and drank more than she ever had in the two months they were together, though while it was a lot of fun at the time, the blonde can’t help but look back on the time and be a little embarrassed at the girl she was. Of course, it didn’t help that she eventually had to return back to New Haven, and a few weeks later she found out she was pregnant.
Her parents weren’t happy to hear their eldest daughter was pregnant, an embarrassment to all their book club and golf buddies. But with nowhere else to turn, Elle decided to stay with them through the pregnancy and after her baby was born, just until she could save up for her own place. Where else could she go? She wanted to do the single mom thing, but it took only a year of little Iris being alive for her to realize she needed more help than her parents and sister could provide.
She didn’t expect Elijah to want anything to do with her or Iris, being a rock star and all that. Elle will always say it wasn’t meeting Elijah that changed her life, but the day she showed up on his doorstep with a baby in her hands and he didn’t turn her away. Instead he helped her move out of parent’s home, following the rest of his band to Roswell where the two of them now live together as co-parents.
Elle’s been in Roswell for a year and a half now, slowly getting used to her new normal: Iris, Elijah, Annie’s Antiques. Her sister Ruby moving to town had been a huge relief with making Roswell feel like home, but she’s quickly grown to enjoy the quirky little town. It’s more colorful than Connecticut—which is what she likes about it—but Elle also found it a little difficult at first to make friends. Granted, she’s as sweet as apple pie, easy to get along with and hard to dislike. She’s polite to a fault, only growing a backbone when her daughter is involved. But having been in an unfulfilling relationship for most of her adult life, Elle is still very much coming into herself, and learning what she does and doesn’t want. There’s a restlessness in her that she has yet to shake, wanting to skip ahead to the part of her life where she feels like she has everything figured out, but now knowing how to get there.
