Oh wow, I was thinking Mission Impossible, but anything similar will work really. Yes, we must work quickly before the nargles use their contacts to find out that we’re onto them and will start testing the jelly babies. I think the best idea for us would be to do a camp-out into the school and sneak into the laboratories

If you’d give Carl a list of things he could choose to do, every single time he would pick this one. Ellie was his best friend and the boy had already lost too much time with her after he moved. Now they had to make up for it, and he was perfectly fine with that. Glancing down toward the red head that stood next to him a smile crept onto his face. It was a smile he couldn’t exactly help. It just seemed to happen when she was around. It always had, even when they were little. Thankfully she was very much the same as she had been. I mean, other than the fact that she was older and more grown up and…

The boy cut off his thoughts there and focused on what they were doing. It was about time they hung out together. He hadn’t been dragged into any odd situations in a while and, honestly, he missed it. Carl shifted his jacket so it sat more comfortably on his shoulders. Peering ahead toward where they were heading he took one last glance back at Ellie, that smile still on his face. With that he started walking, knowing she would soon just step in tune with him. “I think we shall.” He answered back.

"Good answer," she laughed, quickly catching up and matching her pace to his. "Because I probably would have dragged you along with me anyway. Ready or not." It was meant as a joke, but as she thought about it, Ellie realized it was probably something she would've done. Part of her was wondering how she was managing to stay as calm as she was. She just wanted to run all the way to Time's Square, she wanted to yell to the world how happy - no, how.... ecstatic she was - to have her best friend back at her side. And, even though Ellie certainly wasn't the type of person who would care in the slightest how she might look doing something like that, she simply looked at Carl and continued to smile.

"So, what've you been up to that's kept you away from here?" she asked, genuinely curious.

Well, I like a lot of people. Cuz generally people are really great. Some people aren't so great, because there are a lot of really mean people out there. But as a whole people are pretty great!

Ellie had found herself with a smile ever present on her face since the moment she'd spoken to Carl. It just didn't want to go away, and honestly, she didn't mind. She was supposed to be excited, right? That's how it worked with best friends. Especially if you hadn't seen them in a while. Especially if you'd really really missed them, and as soon as you had started talking, everything felt like it used to. That's how best friends worked, right? At least, in her mind that was how it worked. And even if it was just her imagination, it didn't really matter if things felt like they did before.... everything had changed.

It wasn't really cold outside, but it was chilly enough that she was grateful for the forethought to not really go anywhere anymore without a jacket handy. Especially when she wasn't sure if she would need one or not. And since they were headed into what Ellie considered the heart of New York City, at least having a jacket on backup was probably a good idea.

"Shall we?" Ellie asked, continuing to grin as she looked at Carl.

Well, Miss Muntz, it sounds like we need to take an adventure.

You bet we do, Mr Fredrickson. It's been wayyyy too long. So! Options. Let's see, well, it's New York, there are approximately five billion things to do. Some are less adventure-worthy though.  Lemme see. OH. Well, we could explore Central Park, or the school, Time's Square is usually pretty exciting. I'd suggest a treehouse adventure - but I haven't seen one of those around here. So that's a nope.

Well, that's a silly question. Of course. I'm pretty sure it's always going full speed anyway, so no mustering necessary. And I think you're way better than a sidekick. More like... a partner in crime or something.
