Uh. [Shit, he should have known someone would see him and find it creepy, wonder what he was doing. He was an observer. But that was weird.] Staring at the beautiful scenery. [He makes a gesture with his hand, trying a smile.]

[She bit her lip as Elliot thought it over, wondering to herself if she’d overstepped some boundary but the idea of sitting on a rooftop with Elliot and just… talking to him, spending time alone with him. It was nice, it was a really nice idea. She couldn’t help but grin when he agreed and happily nodded her head. It was the first time shed felt anything but pure bitterness in a while.] “Really? Awesome! Great… thanks.” [She smiled awkwardly at him, embarrassed at her over-excitement.]
Did you wanna do that... --Uh, when did you wanna do that?

[Sam licked some peanut butter from her fingertip as she listened to Elliot talk, nodding her head in understanding. Before they’d gotten here and they were wandering around the woods, she had lived with Isaiah and Harry, two of the only people she considered left of her family, even if she didn’t get along so well with Harry anymore. Regardless, it hadn’t been easy, living with two men. She had missed her mother so dearly then, missed having another feminine figure around to help her.] “Your roof?” [She perked up, pushing some hair behind her ear.] “Would you take me? I mean… only if you want to… I just think it would be nice and private and… nice.”
[It takes him a minute to think about it because the only people he's let up there with him have been Georgie and Sophie. Sophie went out once, then crawled back inside after a second, insisting that it was too high and she wasn't going to fall and die on his account. And Georgie had been up only twice, both times to say encouraging words that he hadn't wanted to hear.
But, as he thinks about it, it might be nice with Sam up there. She might talk about things he actually cares about or she might just not talk at all and he thinks maybe, even if it's only a "could be" compared to "what if," he wouldn't mind sharing the space with her.]
Yeah, I can do that. I don't mind, yeah. [Maybe she'd like it as much as he does. Maybe she'd like him.]
"Checkin’ it out?" [She repeated with the hint of a smile, watching as he fiddled with his glasses. She used to be so good with people, so friendly with a wicked smile on her face as she teased them. Speaking to Elliot reminded her of herself back when she was able to hold a conversation without insulting someone. When he held up his sandwich she nodded and reached across and took a bite, still chewing as she spoke.] "I’m sick of this place. Barely two weeks here and I’m already sick of it… well… more I’m sick of the people here. There’s no way to avoid people in this place."
[He watches as the sandwich goes from his hands to hers and then grins when she takes a bite. He never used to talk to people or know who he was, not until their family became scandalous. It's funny, he thinks, how he would have all that money again if they had died and lawyers still worked, if money was still a good currency. When it had no value, money meant nothing. And it was strange to think that his life had revolved around it for so long only to find out that it wouldn't help him in times like these.]
Yeah, try living with two sisters. [She shrugs, then looks down at the plastic plate his sandwich was on. Peanut butter and jelly went a long way in the apocalypse.] I actually go up to my roof a lot. I just sit there for a while because they know that if I'm there, I don't want to talk to them.
"Like… stupid. I dunno." [She sighed and stomped over to him, sitting across from him at the table and leaning her cheek on her palm as she looked at him for a minute. Funny, how quickly she’d grown to like this boy despite having retreate into herself the moment she got her and her parents were shot.] "What are you doin’ here all alone?"
Just... studying nature. You know, uh, checking it all out. [His hand comes up to fiddle with his his glasses sit on his face, always seeming to lean forward a little too far. He misses his contacts, misses when he didn't have to talk to girls and they would just know who he was, come up to him and drag him to a room.] Eating. [He quickly holds up the half of his sandwich that's left, nodding.] Uh. You want it?

[She wasn’t in the best mood as she headed back towards her residence, but she was never in the best of moods. Especially not when she had just had a fight with Harry. Again. She stopped though, upon feeling a pair of eyes on her and saw Elliot looking rather amused.] “What? Am I walking funny or…?”
[He's not sure he noticed it was her walking by, else he might have stopped staring. Strange, how he didn't mind staring at other people, but when it came to a girl he liked, a crush called out all too soon, his eyes wanted to avert.] Depends on how you mean "funny."
[Maybe it's a little bit weird, but he's watching people walk by him as he sits and eats. He's watching the way they move, some with spirits still high up and jaunty, others with shoulders hunched and dirt underneath their fingernails that they seem to always be trying to pick off. He thinks he's somewhere in between, but it doesn't matter, because he's a perpetual observer. And so he's observing, elbows on the table he sits at as he smiles to himself over lonely inside jokes.]
oconnor-josh:
"You can bet I can keep myself entertained, now move aside and let me do my job so I can get the hell out of here an onto the next house." As he walks inside, moving things on the floor with his foot, or shuffling papers around, opening cabinet doors and looking behind furniture as he went by, Josh really didn’t give it too much thought when he noticed science tools at the guy’s room, rolling his eyes instead wondering why someone felt the need to bring their job back to their place. "You need to get a life, Jones, you know that, right? And I already have my own shadow, don’t need you to step on my tail on my every turn!"
[Elliot takes the break he didn't know he'd been holding in. It was just his work brought home with him. There were no qualms and no difference. Not to the man standing before him.] I'm just a workaholic, sir.
oconnor-josh:
You think I’ve never seen women’s underwear before, Jones? Open the goddamn door before I tear it down myself.
Hey, I don't know what you do in your free time, okay?
[He takes a deep breath, then opens the door, watching the man's every step. Maybe he won't care, maybe he won't even go inside his room. Maybe, if he does, and he sees it, he won't mind. It's just science, right? If he finds a cure, it's for the better.]

Start with your residence… as in, open your door and let me in so I can see what you’re keepin’ inside. How long have you been here, Jones?
Yeah. Oh, some time. How about we don't, though, go into my house. Georgie just leaves her underwear everywhere. Clothes, like crazy.
