Jonathan May: Thika Primary School for the Blind
Sight is one of the senses that some take for granted , but lose it and lives drastically change. Australian photographer Jonathan May highlights the struggles of the students at Thika Primary School for the Blind by fading the portraits to match their personal visual perspective based off the percentage of their impairment. While waiting for a flight at Mombossa and staring at the airport television, May watched blind children playing soccer and instantly knew that he had to pay the school a visit.
While visiting the school, May came across a young girl, blind and fumbling close-by to the school. She was being excluded from all the activities because her family could not afford to pay the school fees. Thika Primary School for the Blind offers blind children the education and hope to live a normal, independent life.
