Life Aces: April 2015
May Day, May Day.
Let’s try this again, with a look back at April’s (my) Life Aces.
1. My skin smells lovely (nutty? but in a good way?), feels soft, and in general, looks a lot less oily than it did before Nuxe Dry Oil Huile Prodigieuse came into my life. Praise be to Target for making this line accessible to the masses. I don’t care that this merchandising move inherently loses the French brand a leeeeetle bit of its street cred — I’ll take it.
2. Listen, I’m biased. I love milk + honey’s Calendula Cream (not online yet), and in a way, I guess you could say I’m being paid to say this. But really, no. If I find something I “believe” in, you can bet I’m going to share it with you, no matter what my ties to the brand are. Until there’s a shop-able link in place, know this: it’s a luxurious, rich cream that we technically formulated to zero in on drier-than-dry, irritated skin, but I just slather it on at night and spot treat in the morning. Devil may care. Does the job (more than) well and for what it’s worth, it smells like a dream.
3. Despite the unsightly green tongue it leaves in its wake, I’ve taken to drinking my daily dose of chlorophyll. I’ve also taken to talking with my hand covering my mouth at work to avoid weird looks (due to green tongue). But I guess you could argue that I’m garnering weird looks because of the hand-covering-thing. Mint-flavored chlorophyll is where its at, just in case you’re curious in joining the internal deodorant movement.
4. I picked Roxane Gay’s Bad Feminist for book club and it did not disappoint. I didn’t love it from start to finish, but I think with this type of subject matter (YAS WOMEN! YAAAS GENDER EQUALITY.) and the way in which she presents it from her own (unique, interesting, insightful, but sometimes un-relatable) “soapbox” gives way to good discussion all around.
5. I’ve spent a lot of time this month konmari-ing my closet. Does this dress make me happy? Do I feel happy in these shorts? Will I even miss those shoes I haven’t worn in 5+ years? And so on. It’s been tough for this emotional hoarder to part with clothing and accessories that have seen me through most of my NYC life and into my Texas one. But, c’mon, there’s certainly an expiration date on things I thought were a good idea at 22. Know what I mean? Where does this leave me now? With a focused shopping agenda and a strong personal resolve for how and what I want to spend my moneys on. To celebrate, I just bought a simple black Theory linen dress. It may not be exciting, but I know it’s not going to be axed from the lineup any time soon.
