WORLD'S BLACKEST FABRIC! Some of you may remember earlier this year there was an article in PetaPixel about a company that had created the world's darkest fabric the can absorb 99.5% of the light spectrum. Well that same company reached out to me recently with an even more advanced version of their light absorbing fabric and asked me to do a photoshoot with it. Never one to shy away from a challenge, I contacted a model I met recently and really wanted to work with, and a designer who happens to use a lot of neon pink in her designs and went to work. Here is one of the images from that collaboration. I purposely used two large 3x4 softboxes pointed directly at the model (as well as asked her to wear sunglasses to see the reflections) to illustrate that YES, without a doubt this fabric is absorbing all light visible to the human eye. Normally for a shoot like this I wouldn't postion the lights directly in front of the model. I would instead postion them off to the sides and I would use grids on the softboxes (and maybe even flags) to limit background spill. I think this fabric opens up a huge range of possibilities to visual artists ESPECIALLY when working in limited spaces where you can't always flag things off. Super fun and amazing photoshoot with an incredible model, Miss Kanako. Not only is she a talented model, she’s also an AMAZING human being. And of course special thanks to my creative partner H/MUA Sawako. My assistant got sick this morning so I ended up having to lug around three extremely heavy camera bags alone all day. What a beautiful day!!! Hanging out with my awesome Virgo sister Hitomi who came for a visit from Tokyo today. Any day with this highly intelligent, vibrant woman full of life and positive energy is an AWESOME day. And wouldn’t you know it, her friend Akiko, also happened to be.….. Here's another quick edit of one of the many awesome shots we got with this handsome young man from our photoshoot a few days ago. We were going for a kind of futuristic image that looks like it could be a panel from a comic book. I think we achieved our goal. Can't wait to get these images into the hands of a professional retoucher! SUCCESS! Here's a quick edit of one of the many awesome shots we got with this handsome young man from our photoshoot this evening. Now before you ladies go crazy, please keep in mind that he is just 14 years old. But I would say his successful career as a model is pretty much guaranteed. Many thanx to his cool dad (my brother) TJ and his lovely mom for trusting in my vision. And to my wonderful new MUA Sawako for helping to bring this vision to life.
