Today marks the 24th anniversary of Matthew Shepard succumbing to his brutal attack and passing away. I'll never forget him. It was at this moment that I realized that I no longer saw the Bible as a basis of morality and I needed to learn more about the LGBTQ community. I had questions that I was afraid to ask. Even asking them in the anonymous question box during sex ed didn't go very well with the teacher even if that ridicule wasn't pointed directly at me. While there is still a long way to go, it has come quite a ways. I wish his death didn't have to be one of the catalysts to push forward progress.
