Emery turned on her tv putting netflix on to give them some movie options. But she also got up and was looking through the movies on her shelf pulling out a few comedies and tossing them on her coffee table. She couldn’t help but laugh when she saw the Notebook and Pretty Woman on her shelf, she had probably made Eli watch them both a hundred times when they were together so she grabbed it just in time to hear a knock at the door. She walked over and pulled the door open and the movies behind her back. “Eli! So since you said I get to pick.. We have a double feature tonight!” She teased pulling both movies out and shook them for him to see.

“We should try to catch one,” Holden mused as he looked past the fence, watched walkers desperately claw at it, trying to get to all those juicy humans inside the school. Looking over at the other person, he tilted his head to the side. “I mean, we know practically nothing about this other than that they die when you destroy the brain. If we got one, we could run tests, find out how the virus works, how it’s transmitted, how long the incubation period is, if there’s a way to stop it.” His gaze drifted off to the science building, thinking of the labs inside, all the things they could figure out if people put their minds together.  “I mean, we are supposed to be the intellectual elite of tomorrow, right? Now that no one knows if there is even going to be a tomorrow, we might as well just start today.”

Emery’s eyes widened at his suggestion, she was scared even with the fence between them and the walkers and he wanted to capture one. Emery followed his gaze over to the science building. I mean he wasn’t wrong, maybe studying them would give them answers but even she was able to help him catch one she wouldn’t know what to do with it. “Holden.. I’m an art student. Im really not the intellectual elite of tomorrow thats going to be able to help you with something like this. Besides, do you really think I’m your best option on trying to help you catch one of those things?”

Mason knew that it wasn’t safe to be alone at times like these, but after he lost everyone he knew, he just assumed that everyone was dead. Maybe they weren’t, but there wasn’t really any way to contact them. He decided to explore a small shop, to see if he could find some food. He walked around the halls and when he saw someone in front of a shelf, he raised his gun and pointed it at the person. “Hey, those cookies were mine!” He said and frowned, when he realized who it was. “Wait, I thought you were dead.”

Emery was out looking for food and had come across a small store that hadn’t been complete ransacked. She hated going out for runs, she had always been one of the jumpiest people but now there was a real reason to jump when she rounded any corner. There could literally be something out of a scary waiting to pop out at her. She had just picked a box of cookies when she heard someone behind her, and she jumped spinning around nearly dropping the box of cookies. “Holy shit!” She gasped clutching the box to her chest where her heart was hammering “Mason?” She said in disbelief.

“We can’t stay here forever,” he started pacing around the room contemplating everything about every single decision that been made since they found out about the infected. “Maybe if we go up farther north? I mean, don’t get me wrong we’re safe here for now but people are going to turn against each other and then what?” He let out a breath, calming himself down. Everything just came out of nowhere, all these thoughts and worries.

Watching Eli pace was only making Emery more worried, she hated seeing Eli stressing out. The world was literally falling apart at the seams and she didn’t have a single answer to make the situation better for either of them. “Well if we don’t have to leave this second then we have a little time to figure it out, right?” She said standing up and grabbing his arm to stop him from pacing. “Its going to be okay, as long as we stick together we are going to be okay.” She told him half trying to reassure him and half to reassure herself.

Aderyn nodded when she said they wanted to keep her a little longer then chuckled lightly. “You’re definitely the lucky one,” She teased her. “Who was your date for the barn dance? Did you enjoy it? I mean before it turned to crap.”

“Oh I really feel lucky,” She laughed, wincing a little at the pain it caused. “Oh I went with Evan. I did for a little while yeah. But I guess our date didn’t end so well.. what with us both being stabbed...”

He hated that his friends ended up in the hospital, he hated that they got hurt in general. And he also hated the fact that he remembered what had happened during the fundraiser and that was another thing he had to deal with.  But he told himself over and over that his friends were the most important thing right now, they were stabbed and at more danger than he had been. After visiting Mason, he moved onto the next and headed to Emery’s room. Again, he did not ask the nurses for permission since he was going to see her regardless if they told him no. As he walked in he saw Emery holding onto the nightstand and he rushed to her side, wrapping an arm around her to hold her up. “You should not be out of that bed, Em.”

Emery looked up to find Eli wrapping his arm around her, she opened her mouth to protest and closed it again. She didn’t want to worry Eli anymore then she was sure he already was, he’d gone through enough lately. “I’m okay..” She told him but leaned into him for the support. “They said it was okay if I moved around a little..” She said, but that wasn’t really the truth. They told her not to get out of bed, they probably meant she could lean forward to grab her jello not try to walk around. “I just needed to get out of that bed for a bit.”

“You better sit right back down,” Raphael said as he entered the room, frowning when he saw the expression on Emery’s face. All he wanted to do was check on his friend, see her soundly lying in bed, doing what he did all day: watching television and shamelessly using up the hospital wifi. Quickly walking up to her, he wrapped an arm around her, steadying her a little. “Here. If you want to stand up, at least let someone help you. Take a deep breath. I got you.”

“Thats all I have been doing Raph..” She breathed, though she knew she shouldn’t be up and moving. The doctors had made it very clear she needed to stay in bed to keep from agitating her wound. Emery managed a small smile as he wrapped his arm around her, “Thank you,” She said leaning into him, letting go of the nightstand and hold onto him instead, “I’m going to lose it if I have to stay in this bed for another day. I just want to go home.”

“I know it’s hard…” Aderyn whispered, giving the other a soft smile. But if she could help people and make sure their stay in the hospital wasn’t as bad and as long as hers, she’d do it. She sat on the edge of her bed and shrugged. “What do they say? Is the wound okay? When will you be out there, do they know yet?” She tilted her head to the side and pointed at the window. “You know, the weather is not that good outside. You don’t miss much.”

Emery gave her a small smile in return, feeling a little bit of a solidarity with Aderyn. She remembered she had also been in the hospital not long ago and she seemed to get how Emery was feeling. “It’s fine now but I’m pretty sure I’ll be here for a few more days, they just want to keep an eye on it I think..” She told, there was a little more too it but that was basically the truth. Emery smiled at the girl, “Ah well good thing I’m stuck inside huh?”

“Really? Red jello?”, he asked, looking at her as he scoffed. “Honestly, if this wouldn’t mean that I’m going to get something actual edible out of that trade, it would be enough to no longer be friends with you.” Somehow he managed an almost amused tone. He didn’t even have to fake it. One that just somehow came natural and fought its way onto his face for a split second until it was replaced with something worried. He chose to ignore her comment about him probably being better off not smoking. It wasn’t the first time someone said the exact same thing to him and he already expected to hear it a couple more times. He almost wanted to comment on her pain, but he wanted to get out of here even more, so he just grabbed her purse with a quick “Sure.” and handed it over to her, put his jello on the table and grabbed hers and waited for her to pass him the lighter. “I’ll bring it back in a minute.”

“Yeah well thats to bad cause you are sort of stuck with me. You are just going to have to get over my love of red jello.” She shrugged matter of factly before a small smile tugged on her lips. Emery could still remember the cold chill of fear that had washed over her as soon as she had seen Evan’s name at the top of the hitlist, and how her fear had only grown every minutes she didn’t find him. Though they had always been the type of friends who provided a distraction from their problems rather then talk them out. That didn’t mean she didn’t care or didn’t worry about him, even if he didn’t want her too. She took a few deep breaths as she as the pain started to fade, and waited for him to pass her the purse. “Thanks..” She said digging through it until she found the lighter. She reached out to give it to him before immediately pulling it back and holding it to her chest. “Wait.. Okay I know your going to hate me for saying this.. I’ll give you the lighter under one condition. You have to take me with you. Cause otherwise I’ll just sit here and worry about you, and if your not back quick enough I’ll end up calling a nurse and telling her  what you are doing and then everyone will be on high alert. So you might as well just take me.” She rambled without taking a breath nervous that he would just say no, “I’ll just quietly sit there. I promise. It’ll be like I’m not even there.”

Camila understood, she couldn’t even imagine having to stay in bed for this amount of time when surely everyone would much rather be up. Of course, people were still grieving, or were at least concerned for their friends. “ Hold on, ” Camila said quickly before bringing the chair slightly closer towards the girl, so she wouldn’t have to struggle anymore. “ Here. ” She said with a small nod as she offered to help the girl into the chair.

Emery just wanted to shut her brain off, to find some sort of distraction but laying in the hospital bed and staring at the ceiling was doing the exact opposite. It left her alone with her thoughts and she couldn’t handle it anymore. “Thank you..” She smiled, as Ms. Morales moved the chair over, taking her up on her offer of help and settling into the chair. “I guess this will have to do for now. I’m going a little stir crazy being stuck in that bed all day.”

Layla looked at Emry skeptically, narrowing her eyes even when she apparently gave in. “Okay, you sit your cute little butt right here and not move an inch. Not. An. Inch. You got that?”, she questioned, pointing a finger at Emery as she slowly, making her way to the door. “I’ll go get you a wheelchair.” After a few short minutes, she came back into the room, placing the wheelchair next to the bed. “Okay, here we go. Let me help you up.” Taking Emery by the hands, she carefully maneuvered her into the chair. “Good. Careful. Here we go. Now let’s get you out of here.”

“Yeah, yeah I’m a statue. Okay?”She laughed, waving her hands to usher her out the door. At this point all Emery wanted was to get out of this room, and if that meant she had to ride in a wheel chair to do it, then so be it. Even if she would much rather walk or be able to do it on her own. Once Laya Emery gladly accepted her help, wincing a little as she moved her into the wheelchair. “Alright, lets motor!” She doing a hand motion to signal she was ready to get moving. “And by that I mean go really fast past the nurses station so they can’t stop us....”

“I really need you to help me paint a mental picture here,” Holden said with a sigh as he put his pen down, trying to figure out the newest chapter of his graphic novel. Staying away from school events sure kept him relatively safe, but it was poison for his art. It was his own fault that he was stuck here, asking people about the events of that night. Sure, he was used to taking some artistic liberties, but if he wanted to keep advertising his work as based on a true story, there were a few things he just had to get right. “Was there blood? God, I bet there was so much blood.”

Emery tilted her head as he seemed to pry into the night that was currently haunting her dreams. “I don’t know what you want me to say.. I got stabbed..” She shuttered at the thought. The end was a bit blurry, but she remember the moment she got stabbed like it had just happened. “Yes there was a lot of blood.. Why do you need to know all the details?” She sighed.

“Emery, what the hell?” was the first thing leaving Layla’s mouth when she entered the room and saw her friend standing next to her bed. Placing the flowers she brought on her bedside table and setting her purse down on the ground, she quickly reached out for her, carefully placing a hand on her shoulder. “I really can’t leave you alone for two seconds without you doing something stupid? Sit down.” She gently pushed her down, careful not to hurt her. “If you want to get out of bed so badly, at least let me grab you a wheelchair. We can go for a walk.”

Emery turned to see Layla she dropped her head back in a sigh, “I just.. I can’t lay in this bed anymore.” She admitted turning back to look at her friend. She couldn’t help but laugh a little as her friend made a comment about not being able to leave, but of course even that hurt and pulled at her stitches causing her to wince. “I guess not,” She said letting Layla put her back onto the bed, still gripping at her side. “Yes please. I’ll sit here and wait, I promise.” She said holding her hands in a surrender.

Camila was very aware of the fact that many of her students blamed her for what happened to them, to their friends, but she wasn’t about to just leave and not visit every single student in the hospital. So, Camila went on to the next room to visit the next student. Though, she definitely didn’t expect to find the girl standing next to her bed, struggling to stand. “ Whoa, hey. ” Camila let out as she rushed to the girl’s side to help her stay up. “ Careful. ” She said softly, glancing at the girl. “ I don’t really think you’re supposed to be out of bed. ” Camilia mentioned as she gave the girl a gentle smile. “ Do you want me to help you back in? ”

Emery turned to see Ms. Morales, “I was just trying to move around a bit..” She tried to explain, as if she was about to get in trouble. The sharp pain in her side was making it hard to stay standing so she sighed but took Ms. Morales help. “I..I guess.. But I mean that chair over there looks pretty comfy too. I just don’t want to be in this bed anymore.”
