Tyler was good at putting on masks, acts he had to put on, if anything he got a kick out of it. Then there was Emilia and the masks he wanted to wear weren’t fitting properly on his face. It was so painfully obvious that he wasn’t happy when she was around, that she got inside his head, and that she had some sort of effect on him. Rolling his eyes at her comment, Tyler was usually good about maintaining some sort of eye contact. It was all part of the act of looking like something didn’t get to him as much as it did but when it came to the brunette in front of him, he found himself looking away from her. “Right,” Tyler shook his head, just the mention of him writing got under his skin, just the sound of the name Ty leaving her lips made his skin crawl. He didn’t know what it was? Blind hatred? Or maybe it was because even though he seemed incapable of it, he may have still cared about her and that crushed his own thought process on the things around him and how microscopic they were to his own wants and needs.
“You wanna know the best part?” Worst, he meant worst. “The best part is that I’m pretty sure you knew from day one that you didn’t really want anything from me.” Tyler spoke, his eyes meeting hers once again. “You knew going into whatever it was we had, you wouldn’t be able to maintain it. You were never really ready. So yes, sometimes things don’t work out, even for me but what I don’t understand is why you chose to drag it out and really the only conclusion I got is you wanted to fuck me over.” Pressing his lips together, he stepped forward and raised his hand, pointing his finger at her for a moment. “Gotta say, it’s a great technique, very effective.” A technique he’d done time and time again, yet even the idea he put in his head that she did the same to him, it was a hard pill to swallow.
While Emilia had known her words would annoy him, she hadn’t expected this reaction. It seemed to get under his skin a lot more than she’d thought. Did he really hate her that much? Avoid her gaze, the short answer – she wasn’t used to that. Tyler was intimidating, had always been just that. Not to her, not until the break up at least. “That’s bullshit and you know it – I loved you,” still did, “and I wouldn’t have wasted my time caring about you if I’d known from day one. I don’t just go around, fucking people over left and right. I’m not like you,” she spat at him. Because she’d heard the stories – from girls around town, from Ivy. But she didn’t listen. And part of her was glad she hadn’t. Tyler seemed different with her, he really tried, showed her his best side and became a better man. After all they’d lasted for three years, which was a long time.
His finger in her face made her flinch, though she didn’t step back. She wasn’t about to back down, deep inside knowing that he’d never hurt her. Or would he? Only emotionally. “Yeah, well – you would know, right?” She added, a scoff accompanying her words. It was almost as if she’d taken a page out of his book, which wasn’t what she was trying to accomplish at all. Emilia had been scared – scared of giving in too much, showing too much of herself to then be left by someone she loved, someone she trusted. So instead she decided to pull the trigger herself, calling things off before he would. And she’d done to him exactly what she was scared of. Emilia knew that, she goddamn did, and part of her understood why he reacted the way he did. But she didn’t want to understand. Because she realized that wouldn’t have been her – he wouldn’t have done to her what she did to him.
