What do you do on a rainy day? What would bring you out of the house? How do you keep up to date with the exhibits? Where would you recommend someone to go if they’re not from here? What are your main reasons for coming to the museum? How do you hear about upcoming events?
Answers:
Las Angeles couple. -I like to stay in if it’s raining. I sometimes like to go running, especially afterwards when all the smog has lifted/cleared. -We don’t really know when new exhibits happen at our local museum back home. We tried to become members for a while but we only went once or twice. We love museums. There’s this one where they have this spider area. There are just spiders everywhere, like giant ones, love it
Young Girl. -When it;s raining i like to stay at home and watch a movie or tv show. I’m a homebody, home is nice and warm, not cold and wet. -I don’t stay up to date with exhibitions, though I did come here specifically to see the Anzac exhibit, but it’s been everywhere -If someone from out of town asked me where they should go in Wellington I would tell them to come to Te Papa, but maybe that’s because I come here all the time. I love the museum, I’m a local.
Three English Girls. -Like to stay home and watch films. It’s not enjoyable to be outside when it’s wet. If anything will being me out of home on a wet day where I don’t have to work it’ll be food. I’d go shopping, stores are always warmer inside anyway. -Back home I don’t keep up to date with ant exhibitions. The closest museum for me is an hour away so I don’t stay up to date with it at all. We never go now, when we were younger we used to go with our parents regularly or on school trips but now that we are working and left home we don’t think ‘let’s go to the museum’. -We already know what’s going on with our country, we have already learned about the history of where we are from but when we are in a different country, we think it’s a good idea to learn about their histories. We get to learn new stuff. -We were recommended to come here by the bus driver. If someone were visiting from London from overseas we would definitely recommend them to go to the museum.
Coromandel Couple -If it’s cold and rainy i would stay inside but if it was warm I would go outside with my gumboots. -Good food and warmth would bring us out. -We live rurally in the Coromandel so there are not any big museums or anything so when we come down here, that’s why we check this place out. It’s pretty awesome.
Young couple -Try and stay in if it’s wet. Going out in Wellington on a rainy day would be a disaster. -Knowing that I would arrive at a warm place would maybe get me out. Or knowing that I can only do it then and there, that the opportunity at another time wasn’t possible; I would definitely go out in the rain. -I have a group of friends who will let me know if there are any new exhibitions, they would go to the museum. -I tell everyone to go to the City and Sea museum. I like it and know lots of people who work there. It has a good international reputation. I work in retail so I have people asking me where to go all the time. -The last thing that completely blew me away was back at high school. We got to visit a part of Vic Uni, where I got to handle a greek vase that dated back centuries ago. This one vase had this fingerprint on it from the person who had actually made the vase, I could put my finger in the exact same place. It was awesome, it kind of blew my mind that I could touch something in the exact same way as someone hundreds of years ago.
