Significant Words

I feel like there's

Significant words

Hovering just off the edge

Of my mind,

That I could almost

Reach out

Grab them,

Realise something

Of importance,

An epiphany

If you will,

But I grasp around blindly

Clutching at empty air,

I cannot find them.

So I'm stopping doing my daily poem for now, because after writing a poem a day for over a year, I'm rather poem-ed out. I'll probably keep posting new poems now and again. Thanks to everyone who has read my poems; without your support, I'd have given up a long time ago.

Curtains

I am awoken,

By a glow of red light,

Through my curtains,

They're not ideal,

They don't block out all the light,

Yet it's hard to see,

When everything is red,

Plus the vibe,

It's a bit odd,

But they're the curtains I have.

Rain

I watch the rain pour down outside,

It looks even more dramatic,

Almost like snow,

Because it's knocking the blossom off the trees,

So the air is full of falling white,

The water's bouncing off the driveway,

With some force,

Forming a film over the tarmac,

That's already rather dappled,

With white petals.

Out of Ideas

When you've used up all your ideas,

And you don't know if you should keep trying,

Pushing out half-hearted efforts,

Or take a break,

Hope the ideas reform,

But risk never getting back into it.

Round and Round

We go round and round,

The same old paths,

Are we ever going to find a way,

To escape from here?

Always criss-crossing,

Intersecting,

Not walking together,

But we're both going the same place,

Nowhere.

Sleep

I have the bad habit,

Of knowing I need eight plus hours of sleep,

And to get up a certain time,

Yet I procrastinate past my bedtime,

Saying "just a bit longer",

"It'll be fine",

Why do I keep doing this,

To myself?

Built and Rebuilt

My ego has been moulded,

Crushed and changed,

Since the days I knew you,

I'm less big headed,

In some ways,

More self-confident,

In others,

I hope that maybe,

I'm growing into my final personality,

The trial and error,

Of a million experiences,

Shaping me into something that's built to last.

One Day at a Time

It's all too much,

All I can do,

Is take things one day at a time,

Otherwise I think I might shatter,

Into a million tiny pieces.

Limbo

I'm in limbo,

Waiting for you to decide,

What becomes of me,

Can't move forwards,

Or backwards,

I just await your verdict.

Broken

What happened to the girl who used to write?

She's broken,

She can't do this anymore.

Today

Today is the day,

Where it all comes together,

Or all falls apart,

The culmination of years of effort,

Gallons of blood, sweat and tears,

I did all I could manage,

Now I just wait.

Singing

Singing when someone actually expects me to sing the "right" notes,

Not whatever notes I feel,

Is kind of frustrating,

I normally take a lax approach to singing,

An approximation of the tune,

And paraphrasing of the original lyrics,

Singing it properly is hard,

And feels stilted,

I'll stick to my "bad" singing,

If it's alright with you.

Dust

Dust,

I hate dust,

It gets on my clothes,

And in my hair,

It makes me sneeze,

And my nose run and run,

It gets in my eyes,

And makes them sore,

I've had enough,

Can't the dust,

Just go away?

Shadow

In my mind,

I still see him,

How he was,

He still stands tall,

Stands bold,

It breaks my heart to see him,

In the flesh,

Because he's not what he should be,

What he was,

He's just a shadow,

Of his former self.

Spiteful

You didn't have to be so spiteful,

I know you don't like me,

But even so,

It was petty and cruel,

Of you to destroy things just because you could,

You didn't gain anything,

Just I would lose.

Chasing The Moon

The moon,

Bright, bold,

Shining down,

Standing triumphant,

Not giving an inch,

As we chase it,

Down winding roads,

It dodges left and right,

But stays ahead,

Out of reach,

We won't catch it today.
